Description
We're two guys covering all kinds of cult films from horror to action and everything in between. We try to bring funny and engaging content with our unique personalities, and we also review beer in each episode as well. Some of our past and present coverage includes Halloween specials, series retrospectives, Difficult Films month, Red Hot '80s Action Summer, '90s remakes, and a lot more. It's a pretty eclectic mix here, but if you're into cult films and beer, this is the place to be.

Bobbing for Barker (6) DREAD
2026/10/09
In Dread, the characters decide to study how dread can impact a human life - much like the same type of dread Ryne had when contemplating whether this adaptation from Clive Barker's original short story would be any good. However, we were pleasantly surprised by this 2009 torture porn-adjacent film that actually has a unique interpretation of grief. We talk about the bleakness, the stark high-contrast lighting, and the overall crux of the characters' thesis.
We're also drinking Sam Adams' new Apple Spice Ale!
Come back all Halloween season for more Bobbing for Barker!
Bobbing for Barker (5) RAWHEAD REX
2026/10/04
Sorry for the delay on this one, we had some technical issues with mics.
We're back with a new episode of Bobbing for Barker, and this time we're going back to a time pre-direction for Clive Barker; here he wrote the screenplay based on his original short story for Rawhead Rex. This has all sorts of issues, from pacing due to the lack of a complex plot to too many closeups of the titular beast leaving the mask looking ridiculous. However, we did get into some specific analysis of the film's religious overtones!
We're also drinking coffee on this special morning-recorded episode, as well as discussing Sierra Nevada's 2026 Oktoberfest festbier in collaboration with Hoppebrau!
Check back all Halloween season for more Bobbing for barker.
Bobbing for Barker (4) BOOK OF BLOOD
2026/09/25
Continuing our foray into tangentially-related Clive Barker films for Halloween, we cover the 2009 movie Book of Blood, which actually just takes the wraparound story from the collection of the same name and turns it into a full-length movie. We talk about how that was probably a misguided concept, the banality of this drab miserable movie, and the frustrations we had with a paranormal film that doesn't explore its own spooky house.
We're also drinking Saranac's Darktoberfest, which is back this year after a long hiatus!

Bobbing for Barker (3) NIGHTBREED
2026/09/18
We're covering arguably one of Clive Barker's most popular projects Nightbreed, a tour de force of monster designs and special effects work that actually serves the Halloween season very well. Again, because this is a Clive Barker series, we're covering the Director's Cut version of this film that restores Barker's original vision and matches his novella Cabal a bit better than the theatrical. We talk about the effects, Danny Elfman's overbearing score, the themes buried underneath, and a whole lot more.
As a special treat, we're drinking Ryne's very own homebrewed beer - it's Hank's Hefeweizen, a recipe from Northern Brewer. He's calling it Boggy Creek Brews' Haunted Hefeweizen.
Stay tuned all Halloween season for more Bobbing for Barker!
Bobbing for Barker (2) THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN
2026/09/11
We're taking a train going to the bowels of hell - or perhaps just the city underbelly - in our Bobbing for Barker episode about The Midnight Meat Train! While this one's just based on a short story by Clive Barker, we discuss the ways this one feels very 2000s torture porn - its sterile aesthetic and lighting, to its shiny meat hammer wielded by the villain, to director Ryuhei Kitamura's flashier action flair.
We're also drinking Ommegang's Fest Bier marzen style lager on the show!
Tune in all Halloween season for more Bobbing for Barker!
Bobbing for Barker (1) LORD OF ILLUSIONS
2026/09/04
We start our Halloween season and our Clive Barker series with Barker's final directorial stints, Lord of Illusions. Production issues plagued this film much like Nightbreed, so we're watching the director's cut to ensure we get all the Famke Janssen action. We're talking Antichrist themes, the excellent practical effects, and whether Scott Bakula is a good leading man.
We're also drinking the new LL Bean collaboration with Harpoon on their fan-favorite Flannel Friday hoppy amber ale!
Stick with us all Halloween season for more Bobbing for Barker!
Red Hot Action Summer: Westward Ho (5) BONE TOMAHAWK
2026/08/28
In our final episode, where we leave the West, we're tackling something a little different - a contemporary western, and one that adds some weirdness to the proceedings with Bone Tomahawk. This horror-tinged western stars the good man Kurt Russell as a sheriff bound to his duty to track down kidnapped townsfolk who might be eaten by the neighborly troglodytes. We talk about the influences, the suspense, and the potential sus-ness of S. Craig Zahler's debut film.
We're also drinking Blue Barrel's New Fashioned Hard Root Beer!
Red Hot Action Summer is over, but that means we're starting our Halloween season. We'll be back in September with our new event, running all Samhain long.
Red Hot Action Summer: Westward Ho! (4) 3:10 TO YUMA
2026/08/21
We continue our western coverage heading back to 1957 with 3:10 to Yuma, the original and not the remake. Neither of us have seen this classic, but we both picked up on a tinge of toxic masculinity running through the whole thing as one man battles his own cowardice to try to turn over an outlaw to police by making the 3:10 train.
We're also drinking Breckenridge Brewing Company's Summer Cerveza with salt and lime!
We've got one more surprise episode of Westward Ho! coming next week!
Red Hot Action Summer: Westward Ho! (3) THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES
2026/08/14
We continue our westward expansion with a look at Clint Eastwood's vehicle The Outlaw Josey Wales, a mid-70s American western directed by the actor which melds an revenge plot against the Union with... a libertarian ideal about starting your own community outside government rule? We talk about the interesting ideas at play in the film, the inclusion of a lot of spit, and a whole lot more!
We're also drinking the new recipe Newcastle Brown Ale!
Tune in all August as we continue Red Hot Action Summer!
Red Hot Action Summer: Westward Ho! (2) MCLINTOCK!
2026/08/07
Westward Ho! continues with a look at The Duke and his western "romantic" comedy McLintock! While neither of us are John Wayne fans, we thought it only appropriate to include one of his films in this series, and we picked one that has the appropriate amount of misogyny. From spankings to clay slide fights, we pick apart the very odd, fetish-y film that stars not just John Wayne but also his son Patrick - a true family affair.
Stick with us all August for our Red Hot Action Summer!
Red Hot Action Summer: Westward Ho! (1) THE WILD BUNCH
2026/07/31
Howdy folks! We're hitting the old dusty trail with Red Hot Action Summer: Westward Ho!, and we start it off with a banger from Sam Peckinpah (literally - there are a lot of squibs). We talk about this American western that follows a group of outlaws recognizing that their way of life needs to change, thanks to the exploits of the Mexican Revolution. We discuss the violence, the familiar themes, and even somehow get the Vietnam War in there.
Listen in all August as we tackle American westerns in our Red Hot Action Summer!
EVIL DEAD BURN
2026/07/17
We went out to see Evil Dead Burn to continue our coverage of the franchise; while we were viscerally entertained, our enjoyment of the film critically was a lot different than just admiring the creative gore and cinematography. We get into a whole lot of conversation about the franchise itself, the feeling that this movie is slapped with the Evil Dead moniker even if it doesn't really feel like the series, and a lot more.
We're also drinking Ommegang's collaboration with Prison City Brewing, the Neon Riot Belgian IPA!
THE PATRIOT
2026/07/03
Celebrate July 4th and America's 250th anniversary with one of the most jingoistic films depicting the American Revolutionary War, The Patriot! In this episode, we talk about putting the fiction in historical fiction, ponder whether Mel Gibson was right for the job, and feel perplexed about the racial discussion or lack thereof in the film. We're also drinking a patriotic Big Sipz, the 'Merican flavor, weighing in at 16%! Apologies if things get a bit messy.

HI, MOM!
2026/06/26
We've got two firsts on this episode: a Brian De Palma film, and a Robert De Niro starring role. We're talking about 1970's Hi, Mom!, a unique experience from De Palma that ranges from topics like home video, voyeurism, the Vietnam War, the Black power movement, and a lot more. We break down the elements in this surprisingly complex movie, and ultimately talk about how truly funny it is.
We're also drinking Saranac Brewing's Wildberry Ale!

This Podcast is Gay | THE BIRDCAGE
2026/06/14
Happy Pride Month! We're celebrating with a movie that may just have Robin Williams' most handsome appearance - The Birdcage! In this very gay episode, we discuss everything from Nathan Lane's expertly flamboyant performance, to the themes of acceptance and more importantly, actually being yourself, to Hank Azaria's buttcheeks. We're also drinking Tree House Brewing's Double Rainbow double IPA for an extra thematic resonance.
Approximate timeline
0:00-11:00 Intro
11:00-19:00 Beer talk
19:00-end The Birdcage
We'll be back in a couple weeks with more episodes!
