WHR 3.296: Scott Maderer - Rocking Your Time, Talent, and Treasures
2026/10/05
Episode Summary
In this episode of the Work at Home Rockstar Podcast, I'm rocking out with Scott Maderer, coach and founder of Inspired Stewardship. Scott helps people master their time, their talent, and their treasures so they can live out their calling. He kicks things off with a coaching win where a money conversation turned out to be a communication breakthrough, and he explains why we can't read the label on the bottle we're sitting in.
Scott also opens up about a recent bad note: relocating after 26 years, and how it disrupted his business and personal life for over a year. From there we dig into creating a dedicated workspace and mental triggers when you work from home, why he hires coaches and joins masterminds, and the real difference between coaching and consulting.
Then we get into Keeping the Hat Full. Scott breaks down why revenue isn't profit, why business and personal money need to stay separate, and how small, intentional decisions compound over time. As Scott puts it, you don't manage time or money. You manage yourself.
Who is Scott Maderer?
Scott Maderer is a coach and the founder of Inspired Stewardship, which he started with his wife Carrie to serve Christian men and couples who are struggling to live out their calling. After almost 30 years in education, Scott began coaching in 2011 and has run the business full time from home since 2017. He and Carrie are certified Human Behavior Consultants and members of the John Maxwell Team, and Scott is certified in DISC. He specializes in mindset and behavior change, and speaks on calling, productivity and time management, leadership and communication, and business and personal finances.
Scott has worked with over 1,000 clients in 20 countries, and he hosts the Inspired Stewardship podcast. His book, Inspired Living: Assemble the Puzzle of Your Calling by Mastering Your Time, Your Talent, and Your Treasures, was published by Morgan James on July 2, 2024. Along with one-on-one coaching, he now leads speaking engagements, workshops, and employee wellness trainings for small businesses.

WHR 3.295: Max Emma – From Bankruptcy to Franchise Success
2026/09/28
Episode Summary
In this episode of the Work at Home Rockstar Podcast, Tim Melanson chats with Max Emma, CEO of Franchise With Max, who helps people find the right franchise, including many that can be run from home. Max came to the U.S. from the former Soviet Union at 18 without a word of English. He worked his way through corporate America, then grew his own business from three employees to 96, only to lose everything in bankruptcy when the recession of 2008 and 2009 hit.
Max opens up about how scary that time was, with one baby at home and another on the way. Looking back, he calls it the best MBA he could have gotten. Starting over out of necessity taught him to pivot fast and to live by a simple rule: a good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow. That comeback led to a bookkeeping company, which he eventually franchised and which recently made the Entrepreneur 500 list.
Tim and Max also dig into delegation and why hiring executive assistants freed up 80% of his time. They talk about hiring internationally with full benefits, cross-training your team, learning from coaches, and selling from a buyer's mindset. Max wraps up by explaining how he helps "corporate refugees" pick a franchise that fits the life they actually want, not just the hobby they love.
Who is Max Emma?
Max Emma is a Certified Franchise Executive with more than two decades of experience in franchising. Through his company BooXkeeping, he provides bookkeeping services to over 100 franchise brands in the U.S. He built his own bookkeeping franchise and now helps others as a franchise consultant, guiding people to choose from over 600 franchises, about half of them home-based. He is the CEO of three companies, all rooted in franchising and entrepreneurship, with team members working from home across nine countries.
Max came to the U.S. from the former Soviet Union over 32 years ago, barely speaking English. He learned the language, graduated with honors, and climbed the corporate ladder before leaving corporate America 23 years ago to become an entrepreneur. After facing setbacks including bankruptcy, he rebuilt and now helps others achieve their goals through franchising. Outside of work, Max enjoys spending time with his kids, traveling, catching live theater, and relaxing with a single malt and a cigar.

WHR 3.294: Ethical Persuasion for Predictable Sales Growth with Patrick Van Der Burght
2026/09/21
EPISODE SUMMARY
In this episode of the Work at Home Rockstar podcast, Tim Melanson sits down with Patrick Van Der Burght, owner of Ethical Persuasion Training and Consulting and a certified coach and licensed trainer with the Cialdini Institute. Patrick helps professionals become more persuasive in their communication using the science of human decision-making, as taught by his business partner, Dr. Robert Cialdini — without ever tipping into manipulation.
Patrick opens up about his own early struggles as a scuba diving equipment sales rep in Australia, where a product failure that wasn't even his fault got him laughed out of retailers' stores. Rather than giving up, he applied Cialdini's principles and became a market leader within 18 months. From there, he and Tim dig into why owning your mistakes builds more trust than deflecting blame, how Patrick delegates his business using virtual assistants and subcontractors, and why businesses should always be upfront when a customer is talking to an AI bot instead of a real person.
The conversation then moves into the heart of Patrick's expertise: the seven principles of persuasion — reciprocity, liking, unity, social proof, authority, consistency, and scarcity — along with practical, work-from-home-friendly tips like choosing more persuasive communication channels over email and fixing your video call background to build instant credibility. Whether you're just starting out or looking to sharpen how you communicate with clients, this episode is packed with usable, ethical strategies.
WHO IS PATRICK VAN DER BURGHT?
Before 2000, Patrick was a sales rep covering a large part of Australia selling scuba diving equipment to retailers. Frustrated with how much time and effort selling was taking without wanting to lie or cheat to get results, he discovered the work of Dr. Robert Cialdini and has been passionate about teaching it ever since. With Dr. Cialdini's permission, Patrick has been teaching this science to professionals since 2000. In 2023, he was invited to become a Founding Member of the Cialdini Institute and was the first Cialdini Certified Professional and Coach accepted into the Cialdini Institute Licensed Trainer program.
Patrick is based in Melbourne, Australia, and runs his business with the help of about five virtual assistants, including a personal assistant, a podcast editor, social media help, and web developers. He teaches an eight-week Ethical Persuasion course and hosts his own podcast, Ethical Persuasion Unlocked. He's also the author of the book How to Hear YES More Often. Outside of business, Patrick is a motorcycle rider who enjoys Bon Jovi and 1940s-era music like The Andrews Sisters.

WHR 3.293: Building a Personal Brand and Agency Through Resilient Freelancing
2026/09/14
Episode Summary
In this episode of the Work at Home RockStar Podcast, Tim sits down with Benas Leonavicius, founder of the personal branding agency Avium, to talk about the long game of freelancing. Benas started out writing for pocket money in university, spent years earning average income while sticking with it, and then found a new growth path in the last three to four years that led him to launch his own agency.
Benas also opens up about one of his biggest setbacks — getting fired from a marketing agency job for trying to change how things were done — and how that moment, which felt like the end of the world at the time, turned out to be one of the best things that happened to him. From there, the conversation moves into building a home office that actually supports productivity, the self-care habits (sleep, gym, nutrition, walks) that keep his energy up as a business owner, and why he believes personal branding across a website, LinkedIn, YouTube, and podcasts is becoming essential in an AI-driven world.
Tim and Benas wrap up talking about building a lean team instead of a big company, and why people follow people before they follow brands.
Who is Benas Leonavicius?
Benas is the founder of Avium, a personal branding agency that builds online visibility infrastructure for keynote speakers, book authors, and founders. He spent over a decade building a lean solo SEO business to more than $120k a year with strong profit margins, no office, and no outside funding, starting with SEO articles written for pocket money and briefly trying corporate work before walking away to build something of his own. That foundation became Avium, built to solve a specific problem: highly credible people whose real-world authority outpaces their online visibility. His clients include Dr. David Burkus, Jay Baer, and Susan David, among 36+ clients total, with a model that's intentionally kept small rather than scaled into a large agency.
In the interview, Benas shared that he's been freelancing for over 10 years, only unlocking real growth in the last three to four years, and that he hired his first team member at the end of last year, followed by two more in recent months as he works to document his processes and build something less dependent on himself.

WHR 3.292: From Hong Kong to Copywriting — Rachel Allen's Nomadic Work-From-Home Journey
2026/09/07
Episode Summary
In this episode of the Work At Home Rockstar Podcast, Tim sits down with copywriter and marketing strategist Rachel Allen of Bolt From The Blue Copywriting. Rachel takes us back to 2008, when she landed in Hong Kong with about $200 in her bank account, no work visa, and a journalism degree that wasn't landing her a job back home. A quick Google search for "how to make money online" led her to copywriting, and she's never looked back.
The conversation doesn't stop at the success story. Rachel opens up about a rough stretch where she went three years without filing taxes across two countries, and how untangling that mess led her to build financial habits she still uses today. Tim and Rachel dig into why so many entrepreneurs avoid looking at their own numbers, and why you don't have to be a math person to run a healthy business.
From there, they cover how Rachel sets up a productive home office no matter where in the world she's living, the role masterminds and coaches have played in her growth, and her newer book-outlining offer that helps clients finish their books in months instead of years. They close things out with Rachel's honest, grounded take on AI in the writing world, and of course, her favorite band.
Who is Rachel Allen?
Rachel Allen is a fast-thinking, deeply nerdy marketer with broad-ranging experience in for-profit and non-profit sectors. She's written for some of the biggest (and smallest) names in business, and excels at marketing that's equal parts data-driven and human-centered. Having run a marketing business for 17 years with clients in over 21 countries, Rachel's worked with some of the top names in entrepreneurship, as well as influencers, brick-and-mortar businesses, and non-profits around the world. Her work has contributed directly to high-ROI launches, leaps in audience engagement, industry awards, relationships with top venture capital firms, and national-level honors.
On the show, Rachel shared how she built her business from scratch after stranding herself in Hong Kong during the 2008 recession, and how she's grown it into Bolt From The Blue Copywriting — where, as she puts it, "if it's words that make money, I do it." That includes copywriting, book editing (she's edited 19 books), a book-outlining coaching offer, and a branding collaboration she runs with a fellow specialist.

WHR 3.291: Building Client Success for Predictable Growth with Bradley Rausch
2026/08/31
Episode Summary Tim Melanson sits down with Bradley Rausch, owner of Level Up Influence, who helps coaching, consulting, and SaaS founder-led brands make more money from the clients they already have through stronger client success and customer experience.
Bradley shares his origin story, from rising as a high-ticket closer at a nine-figure sales organization at just 19 years old, to walking away from that role over an ethical misalignment that shaped his focus on treating clients well and delivering on promises at scale. He also opens up about one of his biggest career mistakes — taking a director-level role that was beyond his skill level at the time and being let go after just a week — and how he bounced back quickly by pivoting into a better-fit client success position.
From there, Bradley digs into the skills that have helped him most: knowing what to say no to, structuring his work around his own focus and energy, and using AI as a thinking partner rather than just a task-doer. He also shares practical advice for beginners on prioritizing reps and fast learning over perfection, highlights Hormozi's "Rule of 100," and talks about the renewed value of in-person networking in a digital-first world.
Who is Bradley Rausch? Bradley Rausch is a client experience architect, strategic advisor, and the go-to "backend profit" partner for founder-led coaching and group programs. With six years of experience, he's helped dozens of founders turn chaotic growth into durable, higher-margin revenue without sacrificing their values. From first-72-hour onboarding systems to referrals, testimonials, and ascension playbooks, Bradley and his team help founders turn each great client into 1.5–2x more profit and build businesses that feel lighter as they scale.
Bradley is the owner of Level Up Influence. He got his start at 19 in the online high-ticket coaching, consulting, and SaaS space, working his way up to a top sales training and coaching organization before stepping away to focus on client success. He later spent time as director of client success for B2B eight-figure brands while building his consulting business on the side, and for the past year has worked on his consulting company full-time.

WHR 3.290: Dr. Rob Yonover – Patio Idea to Military-Grade Lifesaver
2026/08/24
Episode Summary:
In this episode of the Work at Home Rockstar Podcast, Tim Melanson chats with Dr. Rob Yonover, founder and CEO of Sea Rescue Corporation, who has worked from home for over 30 years inventing survival gear for military and civilian use. What started as him "screwing around with a piece of plastic" on his patio became the SeeRescueStreamer, a signaling device he says is now military-approved worldwide and has even flown on SpaceX missions.
Rob gets candid about what it actually takes to make working from home sustainable: brutal self-discipline, a simple math equation for building a passion project around a day job, and a thick skin built from years of rejection, including five no's on Shark Tank. He walks through the relentless, old-school media hustle that got his product into outlets like the Miami Herald, Outside Magazine, and Playboy, and explains why he still believes trade shows and face-to-face relationships beat digital marketing for building trust.
The conversation also covers how a 15-year licensing deal with guaranteed royalties gave him the cash flow to keep inventing, what's exciting him now with a new pocket desalinator project and his published books, and his strong personal views on keeping kids off phones and social media.
Who is Dr. Rob Yonover?
Dr. Robert Yonover is a Ph.D. geochemist/volcanologist with a history of innovative scientific contributions and technologies that have been awarded U.S. Military/DARPA funding and U.S. Patents. The military-approved/adopted SeeRescueStreamer has saved lives on land and in water. A North Shore big wave surfer and Molokai Channel rough-water fisherman, Dr. Yonover uses the ocean as his laboratory.
He's the founder and CEO of Sea Rescue Corporation and has worked from home in Hawaii for over 30 years, describing himself as a third-generation work-at-home entrepreneur following his grandmother, who ran an early medical practice out of her Chicago home, and his father, who built a mail-order business in the 1960s. The SeeRescueStreamer earned Navy approval and has since been adopted across military branches, including the Canadian Air Force. He's also the author of four books, Hardcore Inventing, Caregiver's Survival Guide, Hardcore Health, and Brainstorm Islands, and is currently working on a pocket desalinator that converts saltwater to freshwater.

WHR 3.289: Robert Siciliano – Mastering Security in the Digital Age for Work-at-Home Entrepreneurs
2026/08/17
Episode Summary
In this episode of the Work at Home RockStar Podcast, Tim Melanson chats with Robert Siciliano, owner of Protect Now LLC, about building a long-term work-from-home solopreneur business and the security habits every remote entrepreneur needs to avoid scams, data breaches, and account takeovers.
Robert shares his biggest business mistake, hiring "experts" without fully understanding the work himself, and how AI is now helping people shorten that learning curve by researching and asking better questions before they hire. He also explains how criminals are using AI to scale phishing and fraud, and why the "attack surface" for remote workers has grown so much since COVID.
The conversation dives into the core protections every work-from-home business owner should have in place: unique long, strong passwords, a password manager, and two-factor authentication, along with VPNs on public Wi-Fi. Robert walks through his "strategic human firewall" mindset, moving from trust by default to verifying everything, and touches on the next evolution of password security, passkeys.
Who is Robert Siciliano?

WHR 3.288: From Suicidal to "Love Billionaire": Anil Gupta's Smart Select System for Relationships
2026/08/10
Episode Summary
On this episode of the Work at Home Rockstar Podcast, host Tim Melanson sits down with Anil Gupta, owner of For Your Eyes Only LLC and known internationally as The Love Doctor. Anil opens up about being suicidal in 2008, and how that low point became the turning point that led him to speak to audiences of up to 10,000 people, write three bestselling books, and appear on major media outlets including TEDx, Fox News, Sky TV, ABC, NBC, iHeartRadio, and Harvard.
Anil shares his "happiness formula" built around giving, and explains how small acts of kindness can change someone's life without you ever knowing it. He and Tim dig into overcoming fear by saying yes to opportunities first and figuring out the details afterward, building real skill through practice and immersion (Anil says it takes about 20 hours to get noticeably better at almost anything), and how to spot a coach or mentor who can actually deliver results.
Anil also introduces his Smart Select System, designed to help singles choose an ideal partner by collecting and analyzing information rather than rushing in on feelings alone, and talks about helping couples and families communicate and find more harmony. The conversation wraps with a fun detour into music, including Anil's favorite bands and a memorable story from a Rolling Stones concert.
Who is Anil Gupta?
Anil Gupta is internationally known as The Love Doctor. He overcame a suicidal period in 2008, and has since formulated the Happiness Formula, The Happiness Test, the Relationship Score, Relationship Ratio, The Three Way Test, and the Smart Select System. Anil helps singles, couples, and families work through struggles and issues in relationships and communication.
Anil is a triple best-selling international author (Immediate Happiness, Heart Map for Health, and Heart Map for Vitality), a TEDx speaker, and has been featured in outlets including iHeartRadio, Fox News, Sky TV, Harvard, ABC, and NBC. He has spoken as a keynote speaker for audiences of over 10,000, and during the interview shared that he has coached Wimbledon, US Open, French Open, and Italian Open champions. He has held relationship and mindset workshops in over 18 countries, translated into 8 languages. Anil is the owner of For Your Eyes Only LLC and has been working from home for 23 years.

WHR 3.287: Matt O'Neill – Escaping the 9-5, Building Recurring Cashflow, and Leading with Culture
2026/08/03
Episode Summary
In this episode of the Work at Home Rockstar Podcast, Tim chats with Matt O'Neill, owner of Matt O'Neill Real Estate and Tide Property Management, and a happiness coach. Matt shares his path from hating engineering and a soul-crushing nine-to-five sales job to becoming a real estate agent, only to realize that client work had given him "40 bosses" instead of one. That realization led him to hire and train agents, and eventually build a property management company designed for recurring cashflow he could own without operating it day to day.
Matt also opens up about a major setback: an overleveraged home-flipping business that nearly cost his family their home when interest rates doubled in 30 days. He shares what he learned from Morgan Housel's The Psychology of Money about never risking survival money and being able to withstand a 30 percent drop. The conversation covers his obsession with sales and marketing, testing channels like YouTube, hiring by core values, protecting company culture, and his decision to work less so he can spend more time with his four kids.
Matt also talks about his book, The Good Mood Revolution, and his approach to happiness coaching.
Who is Matt O'Neill?
Matt O'Neill teaches that happiness is a choice, even when life gets tough. His work has positively impacted over 100,000 people worldwide. His book, Good Mood Revolution: Igniting the Power of Conscious Happiness, became a #1 bestseller in seven categories on Amazon and has earned over 140 five-star reviews.
Matt emphasizes the power of conquering negative thought patterns, and shares that there are eight bad moods, and that understanding these emotions is key to moving through them and returning to joy. Matt and his wife have four young children while running two successful businesses with $8 million in revenue and over 80 employees. His company has been recognized as the #1 place to work among 470,000 companies in South Carolina.

2026/07/27
Episode Summary In this episode of the Work at Home Rockstar Podcast, Tim Melanson chats with Travis Cormier, CEO of 10X Travel, about building a remote-first business that continues to feel personal even as it grows. Travis shares how his team transformed a fast-growing company into one of Inc.'s Best Places to Work by intentionally investing in employee culture, meaningful relationships, and systems that scale.
The conversation explores the realities of managing remote teams, balancing business growth with customer experience, and why founders need to think differently about leadership as their companies evolve. WHR 3.285: Randy Vlasic – Leadership, Responsibility & Life Is What We Make It
2026/07/20
Episode Summary
What happens when you achieve everything you thought you wanted, only to discover you've lost yourself along the way? In this episode of the Work at Home Rockstar Podcast, Tim Melanson sits down with Randy Vlasic, Founder and CEO of LIWMI Logistics, to discuss the lessons that came from building, selling, and rebuilding businesses while redefining what success really means.
Randy shares his journey from struggling in school to becoming an entrepreneur, selling his first company at 29, and navigating the identity crisis that followed. He explains how faith, mentorship, and personal responsibility helped him rebuild his life around purpose instead of profit.
The conversation also explores practical business topics including sales mastery, remote leadership, AI tools, goal setting, work-life balance, and creating a business that supports both your team and your family. Whether you're just starting out or leading a growing company, Randy offers thoughtful insights on building something meaningful that lasts.
Who is Randy Vlasic?
Randy Vlasic is the Founder and CEO of LIWMI Logistics, a tech-enabled freight brokerage built on disciplined execution, accountability, and people-first leadership. He leads a fully remote team, believing that trust, structure, and responsibility—not proximity—create high-performing organizations. After building and exiting companies early in his career, Randy learned that success without responsibility, faith, and personal growth is unsustainable.
Today, Randy speaks openly about leadership, mastery, fear, and the ongoing work of becoming the kind of person capable of carrying success well in business, family, and life. During this conversation, he also shares how the Life Is What We Make It movement grew from his own journey of rebuilding his identity after selling his first business.
