What do you know about the two powers heresy? Have you heard about before? In today’s episode, we’re beginning a new series on the Jewish condemnation of the idea that there are two powers in heaven. This subject is fraught with confusion and difficulty, and my goal is to clear up the confusion. As always, I’ll be taking a fact-based approach to the subject. Instead of telling you what I want to be true, we’re going to investigate this subject together from the primary Jewish sources and see what they actually say. Then we’ll apply good ol’ fashioned logic to analyze each to see what the ancient sources can tell us about the two powers heresy. When did it start? Who believed in it? What does that tell us about Christology? Maurice Chahilu serves as a bishop in western Kenya. He coordinates a network of around two dozen churches who are part of Kingdom Life Abrahamic Faith Ministries (KLAFM). In this interview I ask him what that is like and what problems he faces. He talks at length about the importance of vetting pastors who want to join his group of churches. He wants to make sure that those who affiliate with him are genuine, that they are teaching the same truths, and that they are complying with the laws of the land. As many of you know, I’m not only the host of this podcast. My main job is working for Living Hope International Ministries, which is a network of churches, home fellowships, and individuals seeking to make authentic disciples of Christ. In addition to my local church responsibilities, I also travel on behalf of LHIM to visit churches within our network, help start new ones, and affiliate with existing churches that share the same beliefs. This brings me to Andrew Ondari of Kisii, Kenya. He grew up Mormon but eventually came to question the legitimacy of Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. After he decided the Bible was the only book he needed for faith and practice, he came across our ministry website (lhim.org). As he studied the content on the site, he came to believe in the kingdom of God coming on earth, hell as destruction rather than eternal torment, and Jesus as the human Messiah instead of a God-man. Having felt the call to ministry, he started a church on a piece of property near his home and began connecting with other pastors in his area. A team of us went to visit him a few weeks back and while I was there, I recorded this interview. When Knieshia came to question the doctrine of the Trinity, she had to make a decision. After she did the Bible study, she knew Jesus wasn’t God. She took a step of faith and began teaching her new understanding of the human Jesus. Overnight, she lost 500 subscribers on her YouTube channel. In time that number grew to 1,000. Still, she didn’t want to teach false doctrine nor did she want to hide the truth she’d discovered. Then something amazing happened. She started gaining subscribers. Eventually, she ended up with 2,000 more. Will Turner grew up in a Presbyterian Church, but when the Jehovah’s Witnesses came calling, he had to admit they made a lot of sese. They got him to question the Trinity and heaven-at-death. He almost joined, but there were a few issues that made him keep his distance. Find out what they were and how encountering Biblical Unitarians online like John Schoenheit and Dustin Smith helped Will tremendously in his journey of faith. In today’s discussion with Sam Tideman, we discuss what AI chatbots are actually doing. We cover how to use them well for research and Bible study as well as some of their limitations. What do you do when you’ve tried to quit something over and over and still can’t get free? My guest today is Jody Rodriguez who fell into a life of regular substance use from her teenage years onward. By the time she was nearing thirty she had been to jail and rehab but still couldn’t shake her addictions. Then after a second failed drug test, she hit rock bottom and said to herself, “If I don’t change my life, I’m going to die or go to prison.” She needed to take drastic measures to get the freedom she desperately wanted. She couldn’t keep doing the same thing expecting different results. Moving away from home to join a rehab began a sequence of events that changed everything. Mina grew up in a poor village in South Korea in the 1950s. She faced many hardships due to her abusive alcoholic father who loaned her to another family to work as a servant. Although Mina escaped from that situation, she found herself in something much worse. She got entrapped by sex traffickers and forced to work as a prostitute. The crushing shame from these experiences followed her through life even after she escaped to America and married a soldier. Jeremy Martin is a complicated man. Although raised in a Christian home, he chose a different path. At eighteen years old, he embraced the party lifestyle of drinking alcohol and using drugs of various kinds. Before long, he found himself sucked into a criminal lifestyle, including an eight-year stretch where he earned his living from crime. At 25 he had to flee Arizona in order to escape murder. At this point in the story, I bet you’re expecting me to say something like, “Then Jeremy met God and changed his life and has been faithfully serving him ever since.” Nope. That’s not how the story goes. It’s way more complicated than that. I’ll have to let him explain it. Rest assured though, you’re in for a treat. Jeremy shows us that God doesn’t quit on people, even if people quit on him. He shows us that it’s never too late to start serving God. Last time we learned about software engineer Alex Ticer’s terrifying health crisis and the healing he received. This set him on a quest to dedicate his life to serving God, but how? He had no idea what he was supposed to do. So, he quit his job and intensified his study of the Bible and praying. After discovering Jesus’s identity as the human Messiah (not a Godman), he embarked on a journey to find others with like precious faith. His odyssey took him to three states, seeking fellowship. Finally, at the Converge Festival of 2025, he and his wife Becky came to perceive God’s direction for them to start a church right where they lived in Round Rock, Texas. Alex Ticer had It all: a degree from UCLA, a job as a software engineer, financial security, a beautiful family, a house in Texas, but something was terribly wrong. It was something he couldn’t fix with money or intelligence or grit. He had a genetic disease that would cause him to waste away no matter what he did. He cried out to God, and something miraculous happened. He saw a bright light and got a new lease on life. What he did next, however, will blow your mind. Are you under the impression that everyone believes in the Trinity? Most denominational creeds, seminary requirements, and church statements of faith begin with a confession that there is one God who exists in three persons. Perhaps you think that this means that American pastors believe in the Trinity and they faithfully teach it to their congregations. If so, you would be wrong. Today my guest is biblical studies scholar, Dr. Dustin R. Smith of Spartanburg Methodist College in South Carolina. He presents the shocking truth based on three independent surveys about American belief in the Trinity. The results are in. Belief in the Trinity is now a minority position in the United States, both among Americans in general and among those who attend church. What is going on? What are the implications? It’s recited in churches all around the world in many languages. It’s the standard by which all modern Christians are measured. It’s an artful and eloquent expression of doctrine. What am I talking about? Of course, it’s the Nicene Creed. But what if I told you that this creed wasn’t from the Council of Nicea in 325 ad. You’d say, “Yeah, yeah, Sean, everyone knows the Nicene creed is really from Constantinople in 381 ad.” Or is it? My guest today is Sam Tideman of the Transfigured Podcast and he has been digging into the historical record concerning the Council of Constantinople in 381. He wasn’t looking for this, but what he found absolutely shocked him. Or, perhaps, I should say, what he didn’t find shocked him. The Nicene creed people say today never got adopted at Constantinople either! What does this mean for the development of the Trinity? When did this creed get formulated and adopted? How does this affect Christians today? What is the true nature of God? How should we understand monotheism? What about heresy? In today’s interview, I ask Dr. Dale Tuggy about his new book, Monotheism, Heresy, and the Bible, published by Theophilus Press. Our discussion ranges from handling proof-texts that call Jesus “God” to the role of logic in sorting out doctrine to how and when it’s appropriate to call a belief a heresy. We also talk about the tendency of Trinitarians to defend their doctrinal convictions by appealing to mystery. In case you don’t know him, Tuggy is an analytic philosopher with a BA from Biola, an MA from Claremont, and a PhD from Brown University. How do you know God exists? What reasons do atheists have to doubt God’s existence? Can you arrive at certainty? These questions are among the most significant that you can ask. If God exists, there are huge implications for your daily life. If not, then you can more or less choose your own adventure, making up meaning as you go. My guest today is Andrew Drinkard, the editor and project lead on an interesting book called Debating God’s Existence: Believers and Skeptics in Friendly Conversation, published by Eerdmans. In the interview that follows I ask him about his backstory as well as the story behind the debate this book was based on. We discuss Dan Barker’s argument against God based on the problem of evil as well as Adam Johnson’s argument for God based on objective morality. Then we engage a bit with Drinkard’s own content in the book regarding divine hiddenness. But before getting to the interview, let me say a couple of words about our guest today. Andrew Drinkard is the director of Inspiring Christianity ministries at inspiringchristianity.com. He holds an MA in theological studies and apologetics from Liberty University and is currently completing an MA in philosophy of religion at Palm Beach Atlantic University.
