2026/10/16
Famous for its cowboy culture, Wyoming is the least populated, the most rural and the most conservative of all the US states. With two weeks to go until the midterm elections, our reporters James André and Sylvain Rousseau travelled across this Republican stronghold and found that the party of US President Donald Trump is deeply divided in the Cowboy State.
India's dowry curse: Outlawed practice remains deeply entrenched
2026/10/09
India recorded 5,737 dowry-linked deaths in 2024, an average of around 16 women a day. Despite being outlawed more than six decades ago, the practice of dowry – the transfer or money or valuables from a bride's family when she gets married – remains deeply entrenched across Indian society. Our correspondents report.
Paraguay, a tax and political haven for Brazil's far right
2026/10/02
Over the past five years, applications for residence permits submitted by Brazilians in Paraguay have more than doubled. Many of them are Bolsonaro supporters who are afraid October's presidential election will be won by incumbent leader Lula – whom they accuse of plunging the Latin American giant into an unprecedented economic crisis. FRANCE 24's Fanny Lothaire, Valeria Saccone and Mélanie Blondeau report, with Jan Onoszko.

Fear and broken families: Inside a Texas ICE detention centre
2026/09/18
Since Donald Trump’s return to the White House in January 2025, migrant arrests have surged in the United States. More than 610,000 people have passed through detention centres run by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the federal immigration agency in under two years. The pace only continues to accelerate: in August 2026, nearly 51,000 arrests were made in a single month – a record for Trump’s second term. Who are the people being held in these centres? What are their living conditions like? And how is Trump’s mass deportation policy upending the lives of families settled in the United States? In this report, Valérie Defert and Pierrick Leurent investigate the issue in Texas – the heart of the new US immigration detention system.
Nepal: Rescue efforts continue in the aftermath of a flash flooding disaster
2026/09/11
Two weeks after the devastating flash floods, the number of dead and missing continues to rise. At Kathmandu’s public hospital, as well as outside the military base in Bidur, hundreds of photographs of missing people have been put up. Hundreds of families come forward, hoping for news – good or bad – of one or more loved ones. A race against time is underway: helping survivors, finding those still alive and identifying the victims. Rescue teams have been carrying out repeated helicopter flights, as air access is now the only way to reach remote areas cut off from the rest of the world. Civil society has also mobilised, particularly Nepal’s Generation Z. From Kathmandu to Betrawati, FRANCE 24's reporters Alban Alvarez and Fantine Dantzer accompanied a humanitarian convoy along one of the country’s most treacherous roads.

New Caledonia: A deeply divided territory
2026/07/24
Two years after the riots that shook New Caledonia in 2024, FRANCE 24 returns to a French overseas territory still grappling with the consequences of one of the darkest chapters in its recent history. Travelling from the Kanak independence stronghold of Saint-Louis to Mont-Dore, Nouméa and Bourail, our reporters meet the people living with the lasting scars of the violence.

Nathan Gallo and Derek Thomson report, with footage by Aminatou Diallo.
The Meloni effect: Has Italy's prime minister delivered on her promises?
2026/07/03
On September 25, 2022, Giorgia Meloni made history by becoming the first female leader of an Italian government, with a powerful personal story – that of a child from a deprived neighbourhood of Rome reaching the summit of power thanks to her popularity. Three and a half years later, the honeymoon period seems to be over. Meloni's defeat in a judicial reform referendum in March marks the end of the myth of her invincibility, and a turning point as her government approaches the end of its term.
Spain bucks European trend with mass amnesty of migrants
2026/06/26
A mass amnesty of undocumented immigrants is currently underway in Spain. Bucking the trend of its European neighbours, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s Socialist government is embracing immigration to underpin its growing economy. However, the plan does not enjoy universal support. It faces strong criticism, in particular from the far right. FRANCE 24's Victoria David and Maude Petit-Jové report, with Sarah Morris.

A new danger has emerged: the Volunteers for the Defence of the Homeland, or VDPs – auxiliary forces supporting the Burkinabé army. FRANCE 24's Julia Guggenheim, Damien Koffi and M'ma Camara report.
Escaping Kabul: The secret operation to exfiltrate the Afghan women's cycling team
2026/06/12
Nearly five years ago, the Taliban seized control of Kabul and imposed Sharia law in Afghanistan. The women's cycling team, which was due to take part in international competitions, found itself more threatened than ever before. An unprecedented plan was put in place to smuggle the professional cyclists out of the country in complete secrecy. Reporters Matteo Born and Alain Rimbert look back at this incredible operation.
