What Does “Safe” Mean When You’re Medically Complex
2026/10/15
Send us Fan Mail
Canceling surgery the day before it happens is a gut-punch, but sometimes it is the most responsible medical choice you can make. We sit down for a candid life update on why the plan changes, how a past ICU crisis still shapes every decision, and why “where” a surgery happens can matter as much as “who” performs it when you live with cerebral palsy.
We talk about getting our paperwork together, including a living will and revisiting DNR decisions, then we get into the real reason the brakes get hit: a system that struggled to place a critical patient in the ICU and the memory loss that comes with intubation and a medically induced coma. That experience rewires your definition of safe. If a surgery center cannot handle an emergency, we are not rolling the dice, especially with a history of fast complications.
From there, we break down what is happening with the knee: a kneecap that pops in and out, unstable hardware, reduced bend, and the push to find the right fix. We explore options like partial knee replacement, MPFL reconstruction, and groove surgery for patellar tracking, plus how cerebral palsy, smaller bone structure, and aging joints complicate standard orthopedic advice. We also address anesthesia risk, including a propofol allergy, and why we are determined to advocate loudly until we land on a plan that protects mobility and long-term health.
If you have ever had to fight for the safer option, you will feel this one. Subscribe for updates, share this with someone navigating complex care, and leave a review with the one question you wish every surgeon would answer up front.

On Ask Win today (Saturday, September 26, 2026), Best-Selling Author, Win C welcomes Elyssa Schneider. Elyssa is a health advocate and educator focused on raising awareness about the connection between environmental toxicity and mental health. Her work grew out of her own 28-year struggle with depression and her experience addressing mercury and lead exposure as part of her personal health journey. After seeing profound changes in her own life, Elyssa began supporting others who were searching for answers to persistent symptoms and witnessed meaningful transformations as they explored and addressed heavy metal exposure. Today, she helps individuals and families become more informed, ask better questions, navigate available testing and professional resources, and feel less alone in the process. Elyssa combines personal experience, ongoing education, holistic health principles, and a faith-based perspective to encourage people to take a more proactive role in understanding their health. To learn more about Elyssa email her at [email protected]
Depression can feel like a life sentence, especially when you do everything “right” and nothing really changes. We sit down with Alisa Schneider, who shares a raw, honest story that starts with unexplained sadness at nine years old and stretches into nearly three decades of trying to power through, trialing medication, and chasing solutions that never fully touch the pain.
Then a clinic runs the kind of testing she had never been offered before and everything shifts: toxic heavy metal levels, specifically lead and mercury, show up “off the charts.” We talk about heavy metal toxicity and mental health, why stored toxins can be missed by a standard blood test, and what a provocation heavy metal test looks like in real life, including a chelation dose followed by a timed urine collection. Alisa also explains chelation therapy in plain language, what it is, what it is not, and how her symptoms changed once the metal burden started coming down.
We also zoom out into environmental medicine, everyday exposure sources (think old paint, pipes, and mercury dental fillings), and why so many people never get evaluated for toxins when they are struggling with depression, anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, or brain fog. Along the way, I share how this conversation ties into my own health planning, surgery stress, and the bigger question of what our bodies have been carrying since childhood.
If this sparks questions, share this episode with someone who needs hope, and subscribe so you don’t miss what we learn next. If you found it helpful, leave a review and tell us what topic you want us to dig into next.

What If Your “Broken” Brain Can Reconnect

Herbert Heagh-Avritt Wednesday, September 23, 2026

On Ask Win today (Wednesday, September 23, 2026), Best-Selling Author, Win C welcomes Herbert Heagh-Avritt. Herbert is a cognitive brain training coach, speaker, and traumatic brain injury survivor who has firsthand experience rebuilding his own brain function and regaining his capacity for life. Today, as a “personal trainer for your brain,” Herb shows other TBI survivors how to strengthen cognitive function, rebuild capacity, and discover what may still be possible for their lives. To learn more about Herbert visit http://herb-brain-training.vibepreview.com
A brain injury can take more than memory, it can take your emotional control, your work, your routines, and the feeling that you’re still you. Herbert Hay Averett joins us to tell the full story behind his snowboarding crash, the years of confusion that followed, and the moment he realised motivation alone was not restoring his cognitive capacity. He shares what the dark stretch looked like, what kept him here, and why the road back often comes in slow, hard-earned steps.
We talk about neuroplasticity in plain language and why “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” is simply wrong. Herbert explains how he discovered the Kennedy Method and combat brain training, and what changed when he started exercising multiple cognitive processes at once, including working memory, anticipation, focus, and processing speed. The surprising part is how these shifts show up in everyday life: cooking dinner faster, completing projects without getting lost, and getting distance from the loud, negative internal voice many TBI survivors recognise.
We also zoom out to veterans dealing with repetitive concussive trauma, depression, homelessness, and a suicide rate that should stop all of us in our tracks. Finally, we dig into who this kind of cognitive training may help, including people with ADHD, autism, disabilities, and even those who simply want a stronger, more efficient brain.
If this conversation helps you, subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find it. What’s one daily task your brain makes harder than it should be right now?

Building Small Business Websites That Meet ADA Accessibility Standards
2026/09/20
Send us Fan Mail
Your website can look perfect and still be impossible for someone to use. That gap is where trust breaks, sales disappear, and people with disabilities get silently shut out. I sit down with Boris Rudelson, owner of Abris Consulting, to talk about what website accessibility really means for small businesses and why ADA-aware design is becoming a baseline, not a bonus.
We get into the practical side of accessible web design: what business owners miss, how accessibility affects real customers, and why “I didn’t know” is such a common and costly problem. Boris shares how he learned more about accessibility requirements, why he now educates clients, and how simple improvements can make a site clearer, safer, and easier to navigate.
Then we connect accessibility to growth. Boris explains why SEO only works when you first find what makes a business different, and he tells a story about a young electrician whose website focused on EV charging stations and generators, driving a major share of new business. We also talk about how I browse the web using speech-to-text and regular tools like Chrome, where AI helps, where it fails, and why smarter word prediction would reduce friction for everyone, not just disabled users. We wrap with options like accessibility widgets and extensions that can add user controls such as font size and contrast.
If you care about ADA compliance, inclusive design, small business SEO, and building a website that real humans can use, this conversation will sharpen how you think about “good” web design. Subscribe, share this with a business owner, and leave a review with one accessibility feature you wish every site had.

Clearing Money Blocks With The Sedona Method
2026/09/20
Send us Fan Mail
Money can feel like a moral test. Selling can feel pushy. And even when you are good at what you do, something inside can still freeze when it is time to make an offer. We sit down with Catherine Clift, a wealth mindset coach, to name what is really happening under the surface: subconscious money blocks, worthiness wounds, and the fear based stories that keep smart, caring people stuck in avoidance.
Catherine shares her winding road through career changes, a long stretch in a call center, and the moment she discovered the Sedona Method release technique through an “abundance course” that challenged her old beliefs about being spiritual versus being successful. We dig into the difference between gripping your feelings for familiarity and choosing to let go for freedom, plus why happiness comes first and abundance follows. If you have ever thought money will finally make you feel safe, this conversation flips that script in a way that is both grounded and hopeful.
We also go personal: Catherine opens up about alopecia areata and the mirror work that helped her rebuild self love, while Wynne shares a raw story of cerebral palsy, family trauma, reporting abuse, and learning to live with resilience instead of bitterness. You will hear a guided “letting go” exercise you can try along with us, designed to soften anger and bring real relief in minutes.
If this hit home, subscribe, share it with a friend who hates selling, and leave a review so more people can find these tools. What belief about money or worth are you ready to release today?

Your Pulse Is A Twelve String Guitar

Your body might be telling the truth long before your thoughts catch up. Andrew joins us to connect the dots between trauma stored in the body, chronic stress patterns, and the way pain, digestion, and anxiety can quietly become “normal” over time. We talk about healing as a kind of inner time travel: meeting the earlier you with better tools, better language, and more compassion.
We dig into Chinese medicine as a map for mind-body health, including a powerful idea: the colon as grief. That leads to a candid conversation about gut symptoms, emotional constriction, and how anger and loss can live in the nervous system and fascia. Andrew also shares a perspective on ancestral influence and vagal tone, using a musician’s lens to describe what peace “sounds” like versus anxiety and how the vagus nerve can be gently retuned.
You’ll also get practical, listener-friendly takeaways. Andrew explains how to begin taking a Chinese pulse as a form of meditation and self-listening, plus why joint pain often requires treating above and below the problem area. We cover at-home somatic trauma release tools like a chi machine, vibration plate, and rebounder, and we close with breathing retraining using a high altitude training mask to support relaxation through healthier CO2 tolerance. If you want actionable steps for nervous system regulation, holistic healing, and trauma-informed self-care, this one is for you.
Subscribe for more conversations like this, share the episode with someone who needs a calmer body, and leave a review telling us what practice you want to try first.

On Ask Win today (Tuesday, September 1, 2026), Best-Selling Author, Win C welcomes Willie Blake. Coach Willie is a dyslexic performance coach, speaker, and podcast host who helps dyslexic and neurodivergent professionals get out of their own head and into motion. Diagnosed with dyslexia himself, Willie spent years thinking he was behind before realizing his brain was built differently, not broken. Through his GPS Method, one on one coaching, and his podcast Light Beyond Limits, he helps people get clear, find their path, and actually start moving. Willie believes the brain everyone told you was the problem might be your greatest advantage. To learn more about Willie visit http://coachwillieblake.com
We talk about what it really takes to build a platform around disability, accessibility and the people who carry the load behind the scenes. Coach Will and I get honest about dyslexia, cerebral palsy, the resource cliff after 18 and why I’m choosing caregivers as my true niche moving forward.
• Coach Will’s background as a dad, coach, speaker and podcast host
• Dyslexia challenges and advantages, then leading with it
• Why community matters for disabled people and families
• Why I started podcasting after publishing my book
• The myths and assumptions people place on disability in hospitals and rehab
• The conversation that sticks with me most and why first episodes matter
• Titles that feel true, and titles younger us never expected
• The lack of adult resources after 18 for disability and dyslexia
• My decision to become a cheerleader for caregivers and parents
• Caregiver burnout, low pay and why support has to include the supporters
• Where to find Coach Will and his podcast
Please leave a review in Apple Podcast or and on Spotify, because all that does is make the Apple Podcast monster happy, feed him his whatever we feed Apple Podcast monsters, I don't know.

A Dietitian With Cystic Fibrosis Explains Daily Care
2026/09/06
Send us Fan Mail
Doctors once refused to test Nick Kelly for cystic fibrosis because of a dangerous assumption about who can have CF. His mom did the research, pushed for answers, and changed the course of his life. Nick joins us with a rare blend of credibility: he’s a 39-year-old man living with cystic fibrosis and a registered dietitian who understands both the patient seat and the clinician seat.
We get practical about what cystic fibrosis actually does to the body, from thick, sticky mucus in the lungs to impacts on the pancreas and GI system. Nick walks through the real-world routine behind “pulmonary hygiene,” including airway clearance tools like the vibrating vest, breathing treatments such as albuterol, and devices that use pressure to help loosen mucus. If you’ve ever wondered what CF care looks like day to day, this conversation turns medical jargon into clear, human language.
Then we zoom out to the bigger picture: the communication gap between clinicians and patients. Nick explains why misunderstandings happen so easily, how compassion and clarity improve patient outcomes, and why living on both sides of healthcare can be a superpower. We also talk about purpose and productivity with disability, how to find your passion by trying more things, and how hope holds up even when uncertainty and hospital stays are part of the calendar. Hear it, share it with someone who needs it, and then subscribe, leave a review, and tell us: what helps you feel hopeful when life gets unpredictable?

My Knee Is Clicking So Loud It’s Practically A Guest
2026/08/03
Send us Fan Mail
My knee is at the point where I can’t ignore it anymore, and saying that out loud is hard. We share a real life update about worsening knee pain, instability, and the possibility that the next step is a knee replacement. I describe what it feels like when your knee clicks, pops, and won’t “find itself,” even after prior reconstruction surgery and implanted hardware, and why that daily struggle can turn simple things like sitting down into a constant negotiation with your body.
We also get practical about cerebral palsy and orthopedics: why X-rays and MRIs don’t always show the full story when hardware is in the way, how to think about second opinions, and what it can take to find a doctor who understands CP biomechanics. I talk about what we tried, including Botox for spasticity and a toe contracture, why it didn’t work, and why surgery may be the only real fix for the toe. We also share the very real wildcard that nobody warns you about enough: insurance approval and how it can dictate the order of toe surgery versus knee surgery.
There are bright spots too. I’m finally getting in and out of caregiver vehicles with help, we’ve got a long-awaited friend visit coming up, and we’re staying busy and stable even while hiding from the Arizona heat. Daniel checks in, we touch on the “who is Matt?” question without forcing the story before it’s ready, and we celebrate Danielle’s work bringing bubbles to kids. If you’re navigating chronic pain, disability, or major surgery decisions, listen along, then subscribe, share, and leave a review to help more people find us.

On Ask Win today (Saturday, July 4, 2026), Best-Selling Author, Win C welcomes Emilia Smith. True high performance isn’t about hiding your vulnerabilities; it is about converting them into your competitive edge. Emilia Smith built a career operating across high-stakes industries like neuroscience, biotechnology, and aviation... all while quietly navigating 21 years of chronic traumatic memory loss (and the mental health challenges that came with it). By refusing to mask her neurodivergence, she unlocked a data-backed blueprint for sustainable leadership that resonates with corporate executives and neurodivergent professionals alike. Today, as a certified trauma recovery coach, CEO of Evolve Ventures Technologies, and host of a Top 200 global podcast with over 400 episodes, Emilia bridges the gap between boardroom metrics and cognitive reality. She proves that nervous-system compliance, emotional safety, and radical self-awareness are the ultimate keys to unlocking elite human performance. To learn more about Emilia visit https://evolveventurestech.com/
Amelia shares her experience of chronic traumatic memory loss and the long road to understanding how trauma can reshape the brain, including how memory and threat systems get rewired. Wynn connects that to her own journey with cerebral palsy, from early moments of realizing her body moved differently, to the adult reality of needing help with daily tasks, and the shock of experiencing emotional and physical abuse. We also talk about what happens when you are both a mandatory reporter and the person who needs protection, why Adult Protective Services can feel terrifying, and how much courage it takes to speak when your nervous system wants to freeze.
One of the biggest takeaways is about anger. We don’t treat it as something to fear or suppress, but as a signal that your values matter and that something needs to change. We also dig into inner child healing, anxiety that gets dismissed, and why trauma-informed support can make all the difference, especially during vulnerable moments like medical care. We wrap with practical ways to connect, including Amelia’s free consultation and community resources, plus a push for accessibility through video podcasting and captions.
If this conversation hits home, subscribe, share it with someone who needs hope, and leave a review so more survivors and disabled listeners can find it.

From Pulpit To FBI

He went looking for less stress and ended up in the FBI. Retired agent Eric Robinson joins us to tell the true story behind a career jump that sounds impossible on paper: Baptist pastor one Sunday, FBI Academy in Quantico the next, then years spent investigating drug cartels, gangs, public corruption, organized crime, crimes against children, financial crimes, and national security. If you have ever wondered whether you can outgrow a calling and still serve people with integrity, this conversation is for you.
We talk candidly about burnout and compassion fatigue, including why carrying other people’s pain in ministry triggered daily headaches and why those symptoms vanished the day Eric got accepted as an FBI agent. From there we get into the reality of FBI SWAT life, the adrenaline and the aftermath, plus what it is like to face the darkest cases without losing yourself. Eric also shares what sex trafficking stings looked like on the ground, how trauma shapes the choices of vulnerable teens, and why rapport-building and simple kindness can make the difference between silence and a conviction.
You will also hear what the FBI hiring process demands, from education and background checks to the nerve-racking polygraph, and why Eric believes justice can be part of faithful service. We close on a challenge that applies to every job, every community, and every relationship: stay curious, treat people like humans, and choose compassion in the small moments.
