"Sense And Sensibility" is a 2026 period romantic drama film directed by Georgia Oakley from a screenplay by Diana Reid. It is based on Jane Austen's 1811 novel that follows three sisters' experiences of love and heartbreak after they're forced to leave their family estate with their widowed mother and move to a humble cottage. "Once Upon A Time In Harlem" is a 2026 American documentary film directed by William Greaves and his son, David Greaves, and produced by Liani Greaves and Anne de Mare. It follows a gathering of the surviving members of the Harlem Renaissance. Shot in 1972, it remained unfinished for fifty years, until David revisited the footage following his father's death. The film premiered in the Premieres section of the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, where it received universal acclaim. It was also screened at the Directors' Fortnight section of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, where it was nominated for the L'Œil d'or, and later at the Telluride, Toronto, and New York Film Festivals. The story follows the Dashwood sisters, members of a wealthy English landed-gentry family, as they face sudden destitution. They are forced to seek financial security through marriage. A commercial success that earned $135 million worldwide, the film received overwhelmingly positive reviews and many accolades, including three awards and eleven nominations at the 1995 British Academy Film Awards. It earned seven Academy Awards nominations, including for Best Picture and Best Actress. Thompson won Best Adapted Screenplay, becoming the only person to win Academy Awards for both acting and screenwriting. The film contributed to a resurgence in popularity for Austen's works, and has led to many more productions in similar genres. "Whalefall" is an American survival thriller directed, co-written, and produced by Brian Duffield, based on Daniel Kraus's 2023 novel. The film follows a scuba diver (Austin Abrams) who, while searching for the remains of his father (Josh Brolin), is swallowed alive by a sperm whale and attempts to escape. Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy, and Emily Rudd also star in supporting roles. The film has received positive reviews for its craft, including its claustrophobic production design, immersive sound, and seamless visual effects. "California Schemin'" (stylized as "California $chemin'") is a 2025 biographical musical film directed by James McAvoy in his directorial debut. The film stars Samuel Bottomley and Séamus McLean Ross as the Scottish faux-American rap pairing Silibil N' Brains, Gavin Bain and Billy Boyd, and is based on Bain's 2010 memoir "California Schemin': How Two Lads from Scotland Conned the Music Industry." It tells the true story of the Dundee rap duo who, for three years, pretended to be American to be taken seriously by the record industry.
