David Macdonald - August 30th 2026

David Macdonald - August 30th, 2026 - Rejoice, Remember, Receive A student is a person who is dedicated to learning — anyone enrolled in a school, college or university, as well as anyone who takes a deep, curious interest in studying any subject or skill. Life is a school. Our textbook is the Bible, and the Holy Spirit is our Teacher. Son of King David and Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11:27); became king of Israel at 20 and ruled 40 years Described as the wisest man of his times (1 Kings 4:29–34) and one of the wealthiest of all time (2 Chronicles 9:22) Reign marked by rare time of peace in Israel (1 Kings 4:24) — David's life had been ruled by wars Built the great Temple in Jerusalem and many other large projects God used him to write three books of the Bible: Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon Had over 700 wives and 300 concubines — mostly in his old age; no record of children of theirs are named in Scripture Ecclesiastes 11:9 ESV ECCLESIASTES 11:9 NLT Enjoy in life when you are young and have strength, energy, curiosity and ability Worldly advice - follow your heart – hmmm?? – Jer. 17:9 A serious warning: But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment— young and old alike will stand before God It is natural and proper to enjoy youth — be sure it is in ways pleasing to God – live life with eternity always in mind 1 CORINTHIANS 15:19 Too soon old, and too late smart." “Live wisely while you are young. You might be old before you know it!" Ecclesiastes 12:1 ESV "Remember" means more than mental recall — it means ordering life around God now – consider Him, honour Him Solomon's version of Matthew 6:33: "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness" Note the word YOUR Creator — not only the Creator of heaven and earth, but yours personally (Psalm 139) This is what keeps a life from ending in regret In youth - foundations are laid — learn of your Creator while you are learning the Scriptures Once schooling begins, encounter ideas that challenge faith – “deconstruction” Many who reject Christ grew up in Christian homes and know the gospel — they chose a direction early Life gets busy fast; without a close, disciplined walk you will be swept into the cares of this life Difficult days come, and life passes quickly HEBREWS 2:1 "Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher; all is vanity." — 12:8 The body deteriorates and goes to the grave — believers do not see this as hopelessness. We go to be with the Lord. – the best days are ahead! PHILIPPIANS 3:20–21 2 CORINTHIANS 5:6–9 Ecclesiastes 12:9-12 "Of making many books there is no end, and much study is a weariness of the flesh" (v.12) There is no end of opinions ready to be expressed; studying them can go on forever (NLT) Man's books can rob you of God's wisdom **Test all other books by the truth of God's Word — never the other way around JOHN 14:26 Fear God Reverence and awe — because we love Him and understand His power and greatness. Holy fear brings us to a loving submission. Keep His commandments God created life and wrote the manual of instructions. Don't wait until things fail to read them (Proverbs 1:7). Live in obedience. Prepare for judgment "The remarkable thing about fearing God is that, when you fear God, you fear nothing else; whereas, if you do not fear God, you fear everything else." — Oswald Chambers Live the rest of your days — whether many or few — in joyful reverence before God - - Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth

Tolu Ogunrinde - August 23rd - Believer's Hope 1 Cor. 15 v 12-20 Our Hope as Believers Our hope is founded on the resurrection of Jesus Christ Our hope extends beyond this life Our hope is secure even life is uncertain Our hope changes how we live today Our hope is founded on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:20 (NLT) 1 Peter 1:3 (ESV) Our hope extends beyond this life Paul says: “And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world.” If all we have is “God will make my life better here,” then our hope is fragile. What happens when we pray, but the circumstances don’t change or God doesn’t answer as we expected? What happens when following Jesus Christ brings suffering, rejection, loss, or hardship instead of the comfort we expected? And ultimately, what happens to our hope when we come face-to-face with death? Our hope is secure even when life is uncertain Our circumstances can change. Our health can change. Our finances can change. People can change. The world can change. But our hope in Christ does not change. “And we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.” - 1 Peter 1:4 (NLT) Everything around us may change, but what God has promised us is beyond the reach of change and decay. Our hope changes how we live today 1 Corinthians 15

He studied at University of Oxford and later at University of Cambridge, where he became skilled in Greek, Hebrew, Latin, German, French, Italian & Spanish languages. • Bible translation: Tyndale believed that ordinary people should be able to read the Bible in their own language. Since translating the Bible into English without approval was forbidden in England, he left the country in 1524 to continue his work in Europe. • Printing the New Testament: In 1526, his English translation of the New Testament was printed and secretly smuggled into England. Church authorities condemned and burned many copies, but they continued to circulate. • Further work: Tyndale continued translating parts of the Old Testament and wrote books supporting religious reform. His translations were based directly on the original Greek and Hebrew texts rather than the Latin Bible commonly used at the time. • Arrest and death: In 1535, Tyndale was betrayed, arrested near Brussels, imprisoned for over a year, and tried for heresy. In 1536, he was strangled and then burned at the stake. His reported final prayer was, "Lord, open the King of England's eyes." • Legacy: Tyndale's translations became the foundation for later English Bibles, especially the King James Version. It is estimated that much of the New Testament wording in the King James Version is based on Tyndale's work. His commitment to making Scripture accessible had a lasting impact on Christianity, English literature, and the development of the English language 1. The Original Writings (1400 BC–100 AD) 1. The Old Testament was written primarily in Hebrew, with a few sections in Aramaic. 2. The New Testament was written in Greek by Jesus' apostles and other early Christian leaders. Ancient Copies 1. Before printing, scribes carefully copied the Scriptures by hand. Thousands of ancient manuscripts have survived, allowing scholars to compare copies and identify copying errors. 3. William Tyndale's English Bible 1. In the early 1500s, William Tyndale translated the New Testament and parts of the Old Testament directly from the original Greek and Hebrew into English. 2. His work was considered illegal, and he was executed in 1536 for heresy. 3. Much of his wording was later incorporated into future English translations. 4. The King James Version (1611) 1. King James VI and I authorized a new English translation completed by a team of scholars in 1611. 2. The King James Version became the most influential English Bible for centuries and is still widely used today. 5. Modern English Translations 1. Since the discovery of many older biblical manuscripts (such as the Dead Sea Scrolls), scholars have been able to compare even earlier sources. 2. Modern translations such as the New International Version (NIV), English Standard Version (ESV), New American Standard Bible (NASB), and New King James Version (NKJV) are translated directly from the oldest and most reliable Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek manuscripts available.
