Time to Stop Praying and Reading, and Start Doing
2026/11/01
There comes a point in every believer’s life where the gap between what they know and what they live becomes too wide to ignore. You can feel it in your bones. You sense it in your conscience. You hear it in the quiet moments when the Lord puts His finger on a habit or attitude that has lingered far too long. Every Christian eventually reaches this place. It is a crossroads where they must decide whether to continue gathering information or finally act on what they already know.

You Can Experience Rest If You Give Up What You Want
2026/10/29
There is a strange comfort in clinging to what we want, even if it exhausts us. The human heart has a way of fastening itself to desires with a tenacity that feels reasonable and even noble. But the gospel insists that true rest does not come from getting what we want, but from surrendering what we want. This is the counterintuitive nature of the Christian life: you die to live, you give to gain, you lose to find, you release to rest. It is the beautiful, strange logic of Jesus Christ, whose very call to discipleship begins with the command to deny yourself.

Four Essential Elements to a Well-grounded Life
2026/10/28
Every person is ruled by something. It doesn’t matter how independent you believe yourself to be, how educated you are, how seasoned in ministry you feel, or how long you have walked with the Lord; your heart bows to a king. You are not self-governing in the ultimate sense. You were never created to be. The most deceptive thought a human can entertain is that he can rule himself well. Even more deceptive is the belief that he can choose his own king and still flourish. Scripture cuts through that illusion with relentless clarity: if the Lord is not ruling your heart, then someone—or something—else is. And whatever that “someone” is will eventually enslave you.

A Few Thoughts On an Unchangeable Situation
2026/10/25
There are few things more exhausting to the human soul than waking up morning after morning in a situation that will not budge. When a person becomes convinced that life must change and that they must be the one to force it, something dark begins to grow inside. That determination slowly mutates from hope into demand, and from longing into a quiet bitterness that coils around the heart like a vine. The tragedy is that bitterness rarely feels like sin in the moment. It feels justified, but in reality, it is simply a soul that has grown tired of living by faith.

The Wisdom of Revealing and Concealing the Truth
2026/10/22
Truth is a delicate instrument. It can heal or hurt, restore or rupture, illuminate or overwhelm. It is never neutral, and it is never powerless. God designed truth to sanctify His children, yet He also warns that mishandled truth can devastate relationships just as readily as suppressed truth can suffocate the soul. Every believer must learn the art of stewarding truth, not merely speaking it or withholding it, but discerning how to reveal or conceal it in a way that reflects the wisdom, humility, and relational maturity of Christ Himself. The Christian life requires more than accuracy; it demands discernment. This is why revealing and concealing truth is not a technique but a spiritual discipline.

Three Things That Will Crush Your Faith
2026/10/20
What is the main thing that governs your inner world on a typical Tuesday afternoon when nothing dramatic is happening—just normal life? When the email lands that you didn’t want, when your child disobeys again, when the doctor raises an eyebrow at your test results, when the bank account looks thin, when the phone call you hoped for never comes—what steadies you? How you answer those questions is not a small matter; it exposes the deepest object of your trust. Whatever you instinctively run to for stability in the storm is your functional “most important thing.” It might be God. It might be control. It might be people’s approval, health, money, your competence, your spouse, your children, or your ministry. But whatever it is, if you have that thing, you tell yourself you will be okay. If you lose it, you tell yourself you cannot be okay. That is your functional belief system, no matter what you say you believe.

The Vital Difference Between Godly and Worldly Sorrow
2026/10/18
There are truths in the Christian life that do not merely provide information; they redirect the very trajectory of our souls. Among them is this single, sobering distinction that determines whether a person matures or stalls: the difference between godly sorrow and worldly sorrow. Some Christians vaguely acknowledge such a distinction, and few understand it well enough to discern it in themselves, and even fewer recognize how deeply it influences their relationships, their spiritual health, and the quality of their lives. Yet Paul treats it as one of the watershed issues of Christian maturity—a divide in which one path leads to life and the other to death. How you respond to conviction will determine which path you walk.

Why Do I Do That? Can You Help Me?
2026/10/15
Have you ever had that moment where you watch yourself behave, almost from the outside, and think, “Why in the world did I just do that?” Maybe it was a sharp tone with your spouse, a late-night dive into sinful escape, a moody withdrawal you couldn’t shake, or a wave of despair you couldn’t explain. That honest bewilderment—Why do I do that?—is actually one of the most hopeful starting points in the Christian life, because it means you are paying attention. You see something in you that doesn’t line up with who you want to be in Christ, and you’re not content to baptize it, excuse it, or pretend it doesn’t exist. Most believers live with a gap between who they are and who they long to be. That gap produces a constant hum of dissatisfaction: “I know the right answers, I know what I should feel or do, but when real life comes at me, I seem to default to the same old patterns. What is wrong with me?”

There Are Only Four Problems In Life For You To Solve
2026/10/13
Most people live as though their lives contain a thousand different problems, all unique, tangled, and unmanageable. They believe their story is so unusually complicated that no one else could possibly understand what they’re dealing with. That assumption is not just crippling; it’s untrue. The truth is far more hopeful: there are only four problems in life, and every person on the planet has the exact same four. Not only that, but God tells us the order in which those four problems must be resolved. Miss the order, and life becomes chaos. Follow the order, and clarity begins to rise, like light breaking through a fogged window. To see this more clearly, you need to meet Biff.

When You Can’t See What You Need to See
2026/10/11
One of the most damaging misunderstandings in today’s church is the belief that a personal relationship with God is meant to be a private one. Many Christians embrace the idea that salvation is God-and-me, Jesus-and-me, my-faith-my-business. They view the Christian life like a private devotional journal—something tucked away, protected, sealed off from community involvement. They are grateful for salvation. They know the Lord has forgiven them. They know the cross has rescued them from sin and eternal judgment. They want the “personal benefits” of redemption, but they fail to grasp the relational demands and communal implications of belonging to Christ.

You Can Do Better Than a Bible Study- Spend Time with God
2026/10/08
Have you ever stopped long enough to think about the difference between spending time with God and simply doing a Bible study? At first, those two things may sound identical. After all, both activities may have a Bible open, perhaps a pen in hand, maybe a notebook beside you, or a study guide in front of you. But if you listen more carefully and look beneath the surface, there is a world of difference between the person who is interacting mainly with a book and the person who is walking with a Person while they read that book. One way of relating to Scripture can make you informed. The other way can transform you. One leaves you with answers on a page. The other leaves you with affection, assurance, and alignment with the living God.

Why Can’t I Have My Life the Way I Want It, on My Terms?
2026/10/07
Every person carries a vision—spoken or unspoken—of the life they hope to live. It forms early and grows quietly. Sometimes it begins in childhood with innocent dreams about the kind of home we want, the type of person we hope to marry, or the work we imagine ourselves doing. Sometimes it emerges later, shaped by our gifts, opportunities, hurts, and longings. And though the details differ from person to person, the instinct is universal. We picture a preferred future and move toward it with expectation. There is nothing sinful about this. God built into humanity the ability to imagine, hope, steward, cultivate, and plan. These desires reflect our status as image-bearers who long for order, beauty, purpose, and joy.

Church Discipline- How to Help a Person Get Right with God
2026/10/04
Every discipler eventually faces this sobering dilemma: What do you do when a professing Christian refuses to walk with God? Not someone ignorant of the gospel, but someone who knows the truth, has heard the truth, has been confronted with the truth, but chooses to ignore it. It is one of the hardest tensions you’ll ever carry in discipleship. You want to see them restored. But the more they push away from the Lord, the heavier your heart becomes, and the more you feel the weight of responsibility… even though you know you cannot change another person.

When Is Enough, Enough? The Hardest Thing You Will Ever Do
2026/10/01
Every shepherd eventually faces this gut-wrenching reality: not everyone you care for will choose life. Not everyone you disciple will walk in wisdom. There are people you will fight for, cry for, lose sleep over, intercede for, and plead with, only to watch them return again and again to the very choices that are destroying them. What do you do with that reality? How you navigate and interpret it will determine whether you rest in God’s sovereignty or are crushed under imaginary responsibility. It will decide whether or not you serve difficult people with hope and endurance or whether you operate like a frantic, exhausted, despairing “mini-messiah” who tries to rescue people who have no intention of cooperating with God’s grace.

What to Do When Counseling Is Not Going Anywhere
2026/09/30
One of the hardest realities you have to face as a discipler is this: not everyone you meet with will change even when you are saying the right things, using solid resources, and praying faithfully. Some people will sit across from you month after month with very little movement, very little humility, and very little evidence that they intend to align their lives with what they say they believe. When that happens, a new kind of burden settles on your shoulders. It’s no longer just, “How can I help them change?” Now it’s, “How long should I keep doing this?”
