VisionQuest Episodes 3 and 4 Review
2026/10/23
Derek and Chris return to chat about this weeks drop of VisionQuest Episodes 3 and 4 Reboot and Malware. Make sure you have seen both episodes before you listen along to our spoiler filled chat about them. VisionQuest Episode 3 Reboot and Episode 4 Malware SynopsisVision Character Created by Roy Thomas and artist John Buscema Creator and Showrunner: Terry Matalas Episode 3 and 4 Directed by: Gandja Monteiro Episode 3 Written by: Cindy Appel Episode 4 Written by: Michael Taylor Episode 3 - "Reboot" Vision and Tommy go on the run after their escape from the Paladin's attack. The Adamantium bullets used on Vision begin to shut down his body until he uses battery acid to halt his permanent death. Inside his neural network, the team of FRIDAY, U, DUM-E and EDITH realise they need to do a full Reboot to fully fix Vision.  Meanwhile Ultron discovers that a serial killer called Butcherbird is leaving etched wings at the crime scene of their victims. When Paladin accidentally tracks the killer down he reveals it's an android on a murder mission. After he escapes, Paladin's client cancels their contract with him.  While hiding out in a hotel, Vision convinces Tommy to overcome his fear of water and use his speed powers to restart Vision's broken body. But the reboot attracts the robots attention and the "Butcherbird" begins attacking VISION's mind space. In Episode 4 - "Malware" The Butcherbird Killer possesses Vision and threatens to harm Tommy if he interferes in her plan, but E.D.I.T.H. manages to expel the invading programme from his mainframe.  Vision, Tommy, and the AIs investigate the killer and discover that her victims were all board members of Markridge Biotech, whose founders developed the first stable synthetic consciousness, the precursor to their Artificial Intelligence. The Butcherbird Killer has collected biomarkers from her victims including blood, fingerprints and an eyeball. The only surviving founder of the company is Katerina Wells.  With Lisa's help, Vision and Tommy infiltrate a gala hosted by Katerina Wells, where Vision tells Tommy about the ancient prototype J.I.M., an unstable synthetic man whose emotions caused him to combust.  Tommy realises Vision has kept Ultron's existence secret and storms away from the party. The Butcherbird Killer attacks the gala and reveals herself as Jocasta, a synthezoid based on Markridge co-founder Dr. Josephine "Jo" Carrington. Unable to defeat her, Vision allows Ultron to take control. But Ultron manipulates Jocasta into killing Katerina Wells, preventing the synthezoid from obtaining the final biomarker. Ultron then betrays Vision and locks him and the other AIs out of their systems, and leaves the gala with Tommy in tow. Lanterns Episode 8 Review
2026/10/06
We have reached the end and John returns to chat with Derek all about Lanterns Episode 8 Dirt and Stars in our spoiler filled podcast on the finale. Lanterns Episode 8 Dirt and Stars SynopsisEpisode Written by: Chris Mundy, Tom King and Damon Lindeloff Episode Directed By: Alik Sakharov In 2016, in the aftermath of the destruction of Rushville, Kerry Kane rushes to make sure Hal Jordan is safe in the debris of the motel. Ten years later, in 2026 Kerry is waiting for Hal as he is released from prison, and despite the town’s hostility, the two begin a relationship.  Hal gradually rebuilds his life and tries to make amends for the destruction he caused, but his fragile second chance is shattered when his home is firebombed. Noah, Kerry’s son, secretly saves Hal using his extraordinary abilities. Meanwhile, back in the alien world, John Stewart discovers the truth about Noah from Sinestro, that Noah is a Manhunter, created through Zoe’s experiments and struggling against his own programming.  Sinestro reveals that Noah freed him from captivity and commissioned him to create a powerful Lantern fuelled by fear. John takes the Lantern but is warned that using it could have consequences. When John confronts Noah, the teenager admits that he killed Hal, apparently to prevent him from revealing his secret to his mum, Kerry. Noah then reveals the terrifying conflict inside him: part of him wants a normal human life, while his Manhunter programming urges him towards power and destruction. Terrified of what he might become, Noah removes John’s ring and asks him to kill him after his final game as Quarterback for his team, the Pioneers. At the football match, John watches the game with Kerry, where finally the real truth is revealed. Hal, after being saved by Noah, understood his true identity and urged Kerry to flee with her son. Terrified of losing Noah and believing Hal would expose him, Kerry shoots Hal in the head. John chooses not to turn Kerry in, believing Hal would have wanted Noah protected. With Noah choosing to continue his normal life, John makes his own decision. He summons Guy Gardner and declares that he will protect Earth independently of the Guardians and the Green Lantern Corps. He says to Guy “You take the stars, I’ll take the dirt.” After one final conversation with Hal’s holographic imprint, John embraces the fear he has spent fighting and creates his own Lantern oath. He returns to his family, charges his ring and finally takes flight and becoming Earth’s Green Lantern on his own terms. Chris joins Derek this week to chat all about the penultimate episode of Lanterns Episode 7 The Jordan Boys' Legacy an intimate and galaxy spanning episode that we discuss in full spoiler filled detail. Lanterns Episode 7 The Jordan Boys' Legacy SynopsisEpisode Written by: Tom King and Damon Lindeloff Episode Directed By: Alik Sakharov In 1975, a young Hal Jordan is punished by his baseball coach for not being a team player. This sets up the habit of a lifetime as Hal won't give up the game ball to the kid chosen to replace him. His father, Martin, is proud of Hal and gives him a key to a "family fail-safe" shortly before he died in a plane crash.  In 2026, the Hal-o-gram refuses to cooperate with John Stewart to help solve the suspected murder of Hal Jordan and forces him to meet with Sheriff Kerry Kane to verify his claims.  Afterwards, the Hal-o-gram suspects foul play from Kerry and insists John check out Hal's storage without her.  Upon opening Hal's vault, they find a portal that leads to another planet, which John recognises as Antaan's home world.  They travel toward an island in the middle of a lake, but John experiences a hallucination created by remnants of a fear-inducing gas within the rain clouds. As visions of his father and his younger self accuse him of being afraid, John points a gun at his own head. The Hal-o-gram saves John by pushing him into the water. He tells John the story about Hal Jordan's family fail-safe and that both his father and grandfather took their own lives. This is Hal's family legacy, leading John to suspect Hal may have killed himself. Arriving at the island, John and the Hal-o-gram enter a structure at the centre and overpower Sinestro who tries to attack them to escape the planet. Lanterns Episode 4 Review
2026/09/08
Derek and John chat all about the very twisty Lanterns Episode 4 "The Weenie" in full spoiler filled detail. Do we know who the Manhunter is or just get even more candidates for the list? Lanterns Episode 4 “The Weenie” SynopsisEpisode Written by: Breannah Gibson Episode Directed By: Geeta Vasant Patel In 2016, Sinestro gives Hal Jordan information about the Manhunters physiology and also suggests delivering the Manhunter to the Guardians to undermine John Stewart, proving he is unfit to replace him as Earth's Green Lantern.  Meanwhile back on Earth, as John and Hal continue to hang around Rushville, John is visited by the Guardian, Lianna, at his motel room who tells him the time in now right for him to replace Hal and urges him to take the ring.  With the Alien Antaan's, 48 hour deadline to identify the Manhunter rapidly approaching, Hal and John's stakeout of the Macon ranch identifies a hidden structure or "Weenie" being guarded by several lookout towers. Suspecting William's benefactor is at his ranch, Hal and John infiltrate the property, after looping in Sheriff Kerry Kane, and discover an armoury of high-tech weapons. After triggering an alarm they are captured and brought in front of William Macon. John is asked to draw William in the nude, while his wife, Zoe is present. During this unusual capture, William reveals quite a lot to Hal and John and also tells them he is protecting the benefactor's identity in exchange for ensuring Rushville's safety. Half and John are saved by the intervention of Sheriff Kane who takes them into custody. Later, Zoe secretly visits John at his motel room to convince him to leave town but fails and in so doing also reveals a lot more as she extends her stay with John in his room. Leaving the motel with a bounce in her step, Zoe's truck is destroyed by an orbital strike and she apparently dies.  Hal and John, with the help from Kerry Kane who has been gathering evidence from her husband's files, traces the attack to Atlas, Inc. A company involved in high-tech abattoirs and owned by Hector Hammond. When Hal pushes his bluff he owns up to being a decoy and identifies William as the real Manhunter.  However, Hal later deduces that Zoe is the Manhunter and that John already knew it. After he gets John to call Antaan to arrange a meeting, Hal jumps from their car and causes it to crash, leaving John inside. Lanterns Episode 1 Review
2026/08/18
Welcome to the podcast fellow guardians, we are finally back in the DC TV universe with Lanterns Episode 1 "Pilot". The brand new DC series on HBO Max. Lanterns Episode 1 “Pilot” SynopsisEpisode Written by: Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King Episode Directed By: James Hawes In 1996, the young John Stewart and his brothers watch on as Earth's only ever Green Lantern reveals his identity to the world. He is Hal Jordan and he was chosen as the successor of Green Lantern Abin Sur after he crashed his ship and died. He just had to answer one question "Is he afraid?". When John's father arrives home he asks the same question of his son while shooting an apple off his head. Twenty years later, in 2016, John Stewart is now supposedly being mentored by Hal Jordan to become the next Green Lantern. When John received a cryptic message from a holographic projection of a kinder, younger Hal from inside the Green Lantern ring, it sends the duo to Rushville, Nebraska. With little support from Hal, John helps the town's Sheriff, Kerry Kane to capture a suspect involved in a mass shooting at their town's football stadium. But Sheriff Kane forbids Hal from joining the investigation, believing the case has no extraterrestrial connection. Trying to get close to the suspect, Hal gets himself arrested for a bar fight, but the Sheriff keeps him separated in jail until he is bailed out by lawyer, and Kerry's husband, Billy Macon. In return, Hal agrees to meet Kerry's father-in-law William Macon Senior, who arranges for Hal to interrogate the suspect, Waylon Sanders. During the interrogation, Hal exposes Sanders as an alien; In retaliation the alien detonates a bomb in his body but Hal uses the last of his ring's power to contain the damage. Ten years further on, in 2026, John Stewart returns to Rushville, where the Macon farm has fallen to rack and ruin. Back at the town's football station, Sheriff Kerry Kane shows him a dead and frozen Hal and John notices he's missing his Green Lantern ring. Spider-Man Brand New Day Review
2026/08/12
Two billion dollars in the bank already and Spider-Man Brand New Day is already one of the biggest hits of 2026 and rightly so. Our full team are finally back to discuss all of this best moments from this years Marvel and Sony collaboration. Make sure you've watched the movie before you jump into our fully spoiler filled chat. Synopsis for our Spider-Man Brand New Day Movie ReviewDirected by Destin Daniel Cretin. Written by: Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Based on characters by - Steve Ditko and Stan Lee Four years after Dr. Strange erased Peter Parker from everyone’s memory, Peter has completely committed himself to being Spider-Man. He visits Aunt May’s grave, secretly checks in on Ned Leeds and MJ at MIT, and spends every other waking hour fighting crime across New York. When a tank goes on a rampage, Spider-Man first has to stop vigilante Frank Castle before stopping the tank. Inside, Peter finds a confused woman and something much stranger: an unseen entity that jumps from body to body inside the Department of Damage Control, eventually freeing Mac Gargan, aka The Scorpion. Yelena Bolova tells Peter this isn’t ordinary mind control. It's small potatoes but the attacks are connected to something called “V-Max.” Stranger things get even more complicated when Ned returns to New York. Peter secretly follows him to a house-warming party, where he also sees MJ — now with another boyfriend. The sight of her sends Peter spiralling, and soon his own spider DNA begins to mutate. With help from Dr. Bruce Banner, Peter manages to create a device to suppress the changes. But when Spider-Man finally tracks the entity to The Scorpion, it possesses MJ and threatens to kill her. Peter discovers the truth: the entity is actually the mutant Jean Grey, who is searching Damage Control for V-Max. Jean takes control of the Hulk, leading to a massive fight with Spider-Man and Frank Castle. They eventually separate Jean from Hulk, but something goes horribly wrong — No Banner, No girl, only Hulk! Peter manages to calm Hulk and capture Jean, but she mentions the name "Sarah" before passing out. With help from MJ and Yelena, Peter discovers that Sarah is Jean’s missing sister, who was experimented on by Damage Control and Director Metzger. And the mysterious V-Max? It was nothing more than words written on an air-conditioning unit in the room where Sarah died. When Jean learns the truth, her grief explodes into rage, and she takes control of a kilometre of New York and its citizens. Peter fights his way through mind-controlled Hand ninjas to reach her, then allows Jean inside his mind. There, through memories of Aunt May, Peter convinces Jean that she is loved and promises to help her. But before he can save her, Frank Castle takes a sniper shot at Jean. Peter uses his new abilities to get Jean out of the way — and takes the bullet himself. Jean keeps him alive long enough for the doctors at Metro-General Hospital to save him. When Peter wakes up, Frank helps him escape as New York celebrates Spider-Man as a hero. Peter returns to his anonymous life, until he runs into Ned at a local bodega. This time, Peter introduces himself. He uses their old handshake, and Ned immediately knows how to complete it. For just a moment, it seems like his oldest friend might remember him after all.
