HUB 524: AUTHOR PANEL - Angie Callen, Bill Soroka, and Renee Rubin Ross
2026/09/29
Getting someone to say yes to joining your launch team is only the beginning. One of the biggest mistakes authors make when setting a review goal is assuming most people who join their launch team will actually read the book, follow the instructions, and post a written review. They won't. Even people who are genuinely excited about your book get busy. They forget. They mean to come back to it. Some will read the book and never post a review. Others will leave a star rating instead of the written review you were hoping for. Getting Amazon reviews is hard. If you want more than 20 written reviews, you need a much larger group of people supporting your launch, and you need to follow up. That's why I recommend building a launch team that's roughly three times the size of your written review goal. If you're aiming for 50 reviews, you want about 150 people on your launch team. And then you need a plan for staying in touch with them throughout the launch. Following up isn't about pestering people. They volunteered to support you. Your reminders help the people who intended to leave a review actually get it done. I've used this approach for my own books and with my launch clients because I don't want authors crossing their fingers and hoping enough reviews appear. I want them to have a strategy that supports the best intentions of launch team members. If you'd like help creating a launch strategy that generates 50 or more Amazon reviews and creates a pipeline from your book to your business, schedule a complimentary 30-minute book launch brainstorming session at www.BookLaunchBrainstorm.com. And now, let's meet today's panelists. Angie Callen wrote “Scary Good: Discovering Life Beyond the Sunday Scaries,” a guide for people who dread the start of the workweek and are ready to rethink their relationship with work and create a more fulfilling career and life. Bill Soroka wrote “Rethinking The Notary: The Estate Planning Professional's Guide to Partnering With Credentialed Notaries to Expand Reach, Reduce Risk, and Deliver an Exceptional Client Experience,” a guide for estate planning professionals on working strategically with credentialed notaries to better serve clients while extending their reach and reducing risk. Renee Rubin Ross wrote “Inclusive Strategic Planning for Nonprofits: A Five-Step Process to Expand Energy, Alignment, and Opportunity,” a practical guide to helping nonprofit leaders create a strategic planning process that brings more voices into the conversation and builds greater alignment around the organization's direction. In this episode, we discuss the following: 🟠 Build A Bigger Launch Team: Written review goals require more supporters than most authors expect. 🟠 Follow Up With Intention: Reminders help people who already meant to read, review, and support the book. 🟠 Know The Book’s Real Job: A book can spread an idea, support a business, or open conversations beyond sales. 🟠 Price For Reach: Lowering the price can help more readers discover and engage with the message. 🟠 Give Books Away Strategically: Physical copies can spark conversations, referrals, and unexpected opportunities. 🟠 Expect Creative Grief: Releasing a book can feel emotional once the editing, tweaking, and control are over. 🟠 Let Community Expand Visibility: Author collaboration creates more reasons to talk about the book again. 🟠 Pace the Next Book: New ideas may arrive quickly, but the first book still needs time and attention. HUB 523: AUTHOR PANEL - Kim Groshek and Mitch Weisburgh
2026/09/22
What would you rather have: a bestseller screenshot or three conversations with ideal prospects? As an entrepreneurial author, I’d take the conversations.  There’s nothing wrong with wanting your book to become an Amazon bestseller. It feels good. It gives you something to celebrate and share. But if you wrote your book to grow your business, bestseller status shouldn’t be the only way you measure success. I’d rather know that your launch reconnected you with a former colleague who now wants to introduce you to a potential client. Or that someone on your launch team invited you to speak. Or that a reader reached out because your book helped them realize you’re exactly the person they need to hire. Those outcomes may never show up on an Amazon bestseller list, but they can have a much bigger impact on your business. That’s why I encourage authors to think about what they actually want their book to accomplish before they plan the launch. Once you know the business outcomes you’re working toward, you can build a launch strategy designed to create them. If you’d like help creating a launch strategy that generates reviews and creates a pipeline from your book to your business, schedule a complimentary 30-minute book launch brainstorming session at www.BookLaunchBrainstorm.com. And now, let’s meet today’s panelists. Mitch Weisburgh wrote “MindShifting: Stop Your Brain From Sabotaging Your Happiness and Success,” a guide to recognizing the mental patterns that can get in our way and learning how to shift those patterns to improve happiness and success. In this episode, we discuss the following: 🟠 Write For One Reader: A focused reader helps shape the structure, examples, and learning experience. 🟠 Practice What You Teach: A practical book can demonstrate its own method while teaching the reader. 🟠 Help Readers Shift: Strong feedback comes when people apply the book and see real change. 🟠 Use AI For Research: AI can help organize examples and options without replacing the author’s voice. 🟠 Protect Writing Time: Dedicated writing blocks keep a book moving even when other projects compete for attention. 🟠 Connect The Bigger Story: A book works better when it fits into the author’s broader mission, courses, and offers. HUB 522: EXPERT INTERVIEW - Kim Eley
2026/09/15
If you've ever thought about writing a book, you've probably realized pretty quickly that there are a lot of decisions to make. Should you self-publish or pursue another publishing path? Which type of editor do you need? What comes after you've finished the manuscript? And how do you know you're making the right choices? Today's guest helps authors answer those questions, and many others, every day. Through KWE Publishing, she and her team work with nonfiction and children's book authors who want guidance through the writing, publishing, and marketing process. They support authors with book coaching, ghostwriting, editing, design, publishing, audiobook production, and much more. What I appreciate about her approach is that she understands there isn't one right way to become an author. Some people are starting with an idea. Others have a completed manuscript sitting on their computer. Her team helps authors figure out what they need and what makes sense for their goals. In today's conversation, we'll talk about what authors should know before they begin, some of the biggest decisions they'll make along the way, and how to make the publishing process feel a little less overwhelming. In this episode, we discuss the following: 🟠 Ask Better Questions Early: Intention, success, message, and ideal reader should shape the path before production begins. 🟠 Choose the Right Publishing Path: Traditional, hybrid, and self-publishing options only make sense when matched to the author’s goals. 🟠 Protect the Author’s Voice: Strong support should guide the process without taking over the message. 🟠 Replace Bestseller Chasing: Reviews, word of mouth, presales, and visibility create stronger proof than a category badge. 🟠 Build Trusted Referral Networks: Authors benefit when experts collaborate and connect them with the right next resource. HUB 521: AUTHOR PANEL - Daniel Brewer and Melissa Dinwiddie
2026/09/08
One of the biggest mistakes I see authors make has nothing to do with their book. It has to do with who they invite to support it. When most authors hear the phrase “launch team,” they immediately think of friends and family. They put together a list of 20 or 30 people who love them and are happy to cheer them on. If that’s your entire launch team, you’re missing a huge opportunity. You may also send Amazon mixed signals if the people buying and reviewing your book are not the readers it was written for. A book launch is one of the few times in your business when you have a compelling reason to reconnect with people in your network. Your launch team should include likely prospects, referral partners, colleagues, podcast hosts, and others who would benefit from your book’s message or know someone who would. If someone joins your launch team, they’re raising their hand to spend time with you over several weeks. They’re reading your book, attending your private launch team training, and engaging with your content. Those touchpoints can lead to conversations and opportunities long after launch day. Your goal isn’t simply to collect Amazon reviews. It’s to use your book launch as a business development strategy. That’s why I recommend building a launch team that’s about three times larger than your Amazon review goal and thinking carefully about who belongs on that list. If you’d like help creating a launch strategy that generates reviews and creates a pipeline from your book to your business, schedule a complimentary 30-minute book launch brainstorming session at www.BookLaunchBrainstorm.com. And now, let’s meet today’s panelists. Daniel Brewer wrote "The Book of Customer Service: A No-Nonsense Guide to Earning Trust and Keeping Customers Coming Back," a straightforward business book that shows organizations how to build customer loyalty by delivering exceptional service. Melissa Dinwiddie wrote "Innovation at Work: 52 Micro-Experiments for Brave Leaders Who Want to Unstick Teams, Spark Ideas, and Build What's Next," a hands-on guide that helps leaders foster creativity and innovation through small, practical experiments that make it easier for teams to generate and act on new ideas. In this episode, we discuss the following: 🟠 Learn From Book One: A first book can reveal what support, planning, and marketing you need next time. 🟠 Connect The Book To Speaking: Training, keynotes, and private workshops can give the book a clear business role. 🟠 Use Bonus Content Wisely: Videos, PDFs, and exercises help readers apply the book after they finish reading. 🟠 Build Review Credibility: Written reviews help a book look trustworthy and show that readers engaged with the ideas. 🟠 Let Collaboration Create Connections: Author communities can lead to referrals, partnerships, book swaps, and real-world opportunities. HUB 520: AUTHOR PANEL - Joel Benge, Loren Sanders, and Stephanie McAuliffe
2026/09/01
You've probably heard that you need to solve a problem for your readers. That's good advice. But here's the question I wish more aspiring authors would ask before they start writing. Does your ideal reader know they have that problem? Some problems are obvious. Others aren't. Your reader may be frustrated, stuck, or dissatisfied without realizing what's actually causing it. If your book is written for someone who doesn't recognize the problem you're solving, your message may never land the way you intended. That's why understanding your audience matters so much. You need to know how they describe their challenges, what they're already searching for, and whether they're actively looking for a solution. Sometimes the book you want to write isn't the book your audience is ready to read. These are exactly the kinds of conversations we have in the Author ROI Lab. Before you spend months writing a book, we'll help you think through who your ideal reader is, whether your message will resonate with them, and how your book can support your business goals. If you're thinking about writing a business book, learn more at www.AuthorROILab.com. And now, let's meet today's panelists. Joel Benge wrote "Be A Nerd That Talks Good: Transform Your Technical Knowledge into Powerful Messages," a practical guide that helps technical experts communicate complex ideas in ways that engage audiences, build credibility, and inspire action. Loren Sanders wrote "Empathy Is Not A Weakness: And Other Stories from The Edge," a collection of personal and professional stories that challenge common misconceptions about empathy and explore the strength, courage, and leadership that come from embracing it. Stephanie McAuliffe wrote "The Impact of Silence: Reclaim the Sovereignty of Your Soul," a reflective and empowering book that helps readers recognize the costs of silence and reclaim their voice, truth, and personal sovereignty. In this episode, we discuss the following: 🟠 Name The Real Problem: A stronger book starts when readers recognize themselves in the challenge. 🟠 Clarify Complex Ideas: Technical experts need language that helps audiences understand, trust, and act. 🟠 Write From The Scars: A second book can shift from raw healing to wisdom, power, and service. 🟠 Use The Book As A Doorway: Books can open coaching, speaking, workshops, and deeper client conversations. 🟠 Make Reviews Less Scary: Honest reviews reveal how the book lands, even with readers outside your usual audience. 🟠 Let Community Expand Reach: Author collaboration helps books travel farther than solo promotion can. 🟠 Measure Usage Over Status: Real impact happens when readers apply the work, not just when they buy the book. HUB 519 AUTHOR PANEL - Deborah Reuben, Emma Toops, and Mitch Weisburgh
2026/08/25
"Build it, and they will come” is a terrible strategy for writing a business book. Too many entrepreneurs assume that once their book is published, readers will somehow discover it, recommend it, and start reaching out to become clients. But books rarely create opportunities on their own. They need a clear strategy behind them. Before you write your first chapter, it’s worth asking: How will people find this book? Why will they choose to read it? And once they do, what do I want them to do next? Those questions can dramatically change the book you write and the results it creates. That’s exactly why I created the Author ROI Lab. It’s a small-group program that helps entrepreneurs think strategically before they write, so they create a book that supports their business goals instead of simply adding another title to the marketplace. If you’re considering writing a business book, learn more at www.AuthorROILab.com. And now, let’s meet today’s panelists. Deborah Reuben wrote "Enter the TomorrowZone: How to Inspire Breakthrough Innovation and Shape Your Future," a forward-looking guide that helps leaders move beyond reactive thinking, embrace innovation, and intentionally shape the future they want to create. Emma Toops wrote "Wait, What?!: The Success Formula for When Life Plays Out Differently Than You Expected," an inspiring guide that helps readers navigate unexpected life changes, embrace uncertainty, and redefine success with resilience, purpose, and confidence. Mitch Weisburgh wrote "MindShifting: Stop Your Brain From Sabotaging Your Happiness and Success," a practical personal development book that helps readers recognize unhelpful thought patterns, shift their mindset, and unlock greater happiness, confidence, and success. Would you please leave an honest rating and review on Apple Podcast? They are extremely helpful, and I read each one. Thanks for the inspiration! In this episode, we discuss the following: 🟠 Write For The Real Reader: A busy executive, young adult, or lifelong learner needs a book built for their actual context. 🟠 Make The Book Actionable: Skimmable sections, tools, and takeaways help readers use the ideas right away. 🟠 Hire The Right Support: Different experts can help with manuscript development, production, marketing, and launch. 🟠 Measure The Right Outcome: Success can mean the book reaches the right hands, not just that it sells copies. 🟠 Use Reviews As Evidence: Written reviews show that readers are engaging with the ideas and applying them. 🟠 Create Study Guides And Tools: Book clubs, courses, and discussion guides help turn reading into implementation. 🟠 Test The Next Book First: A future book works better when the audience, offer, and stories are explored before writing. HUB 518: AUTHOR PANEL - Ahmed Zouhair and Bill Miller
2026/08/18
You’ve been thinking about writing a book. Maybe you’ve started collecting ideas, blocked time on your calendar to begin, or even outlined a few chapters. But before you invest hundreds of hours writing, editing, and publishing, there’s one question that deserves your attention. Is this book actually worth the time and effort? For entrepreneurs, a book should do more than share your expertise. It should support your business goals. It should attract the right audience, create opportunities for speaking engagements and media appearances, strengthen your credibility, and lead readers toward the work you most want to do. That kind of outcome doesn’t happen by accident. It starts with asking the right questions before you write the first chapter. That’s why I created the Author ROI Lab. It’s a small-group program that helps entrepreneurs evaluate whether the book they’re considering is worth writing and, if so, how to position it to maximize its return on investment. If you’ve been thinking about publishing a business book, take time to gain clarity before you commit months of your life to the wrong project. Sign up at www.AuthorROILab.com. Reach out if you’d like to chat first. And now, let’s meet our panel. Bill Miller wrote "What Every CEO Must Know: 37 Secrets to Lead with Confidence and Power," a practical leadership guide that shares essential lessons to help CEOs make better decisions, build stronger organizations, and lead with greater confidence and effectiveness. Ahmed Zouhair wrote "Going Pro 2.0: Master Your Next Professional Journey," a career development guide that equips professionals with the mindset, strategies, and practical tools to navigate career transitions, accelerate growth, and achieve long-term success. In this episode, we discuss the following: 🟠 Clarify The Reader Early: A stronger book starts with knowing exactly who needs it most. 🟠 Write With More Intention: A second book can benefit from lessons learned during the first launch. 🟠 Make The Book Engaging: Visuals, assessments, takeaways, and prompts help readers interact with the material. 🟠 Tie The Book To Speaking: A book can add credibility to keynotes, workshops, breakouts, and masterminds. 🟠 Use Lead Magnets Strategically: Bonus frameworks can turn readers into subscribers, prospects, and ongoing relationships. 🟠 Keep Learning From Reviews: Reader feedback helps authors understand what is landing and what needs refinement. 🟠 Bring Books Into The Room: Giving away signed copies at events can create memorable conversations. 🟠 Hire A Professional Editor: Strong content still needs editing, structure, and formatting that support the readers’ experience. HUB 517: AUTHOR INTERVIEW - Jeremy Shapiro
2026/08/11
What do you do when you've outgrown hustle, but your business hasn't caught up yet? Today's guest helps entrepreneurs navigate one of the most challenging stages of business growth: the point where working harder is no longer the answer. Instead, success depends on building the systems, teams, and leadership capacity that allow a business to scale. As a business coach and entrepreneur, he works with owners who have achieved success but find themselves trapped by it. Their business depends on them for too many decisions, too many approvals, and too much day-to-day involvement. His work helps leaders build businesses that can grow without becoming more dependent on the owner. He is also the author of "Your Business Growth Playbook: Breakthrough Strategies to Scale Your Business for Business Owners Who’ve Outgrown Hustle," a practical guide for entrepreneurs ready to stop being the bottleneck and start building a business that can thrive beyond their personal capacity. If you've ever felt like your business can't grow unless you work harder, this conversation will challenge that assumption and offer a different path forward. Please join me in welcoming Jeremy Shapiro. In this episode, we discuss the following: 🟠 Move Beyond Hustle: Early-stage effort can build a business, but it eventually creates burnout and bottlenecks. 🟠 Codify The Playbook: Decades of coaching and entrepreneurship became a repeatable framework once the ideas were written down. 🟠 Give Readers Real Tools: A useful business book should help people take action, not just sell the author’s services. 🟠 Use The FAQ Formula: Frequency, amount, and quantity give owners more than one way to restart growth. 🟠 Serve The Right Stage: Jeremy wrote this book for established owners who have plateaued and need smarter growth levers. 🟠 Track The Bottleneck: Business constraints keep changing, so owners need to measure what is actually slowing growth. 🟠 Watch Churn And Lifetime Value: Retention, cancellation reasons, and customer lifetime value reveal opportunities already inside the business. HUB 516: AUTHOR PANEL - Bill Miller, Kate Vawter, and Judi Lawrence
2026/08/04
Many entrepreneurial authors feel uncomfortable promoting themselves. They worry about sounding salesy. They do not want to overwhelm their audience. And for some, the idea of repeatedly talking about their book feels exhausting or even inauthentic. So they stay quiet. But the challenge is this: if people do not know about your book, they cannot benefit from it. The good news is that promotion does not have to feel pushy. One of the easiest ways to market your book is to do it alongside other authors. When authors collaborate, share audiences, and support each other’s visibility, promotion starts to feel more like a community and less like self-promotion. That’s one of the reasons I created the Kindle Flash Sale. It brings together entrepreneurial authors who cross-promote each other’s books during a coordinated campaign, helping everyone expand their reach, build momentum, and connect with new readers. If promoting your book feels uncomfortable, or if you would rather market your book as part of a collaborative community instead of trying to do it all alone, learn more about the next Kindle Flash Sale at www.KindleFlashSale.com. And now, let’s meet today’s panelists. Bill Miller wrote "The Rookie CEO, You Can't Make This Stuff Up! Learn How 9 Rookie CEOs Got There, Executed, Created Their Stories and Led!", a leadership book that shares real stories from first-time CEOs and the lessons they learned while stepping into the top role, making decisions under pressure, and leading through uncertainty. Dr. Kate Vawter wrote "Better Boss Blueprint: How Great Managers Build Trust, Inspire Loyalty, and Deliver Results," a practical management guide that helps leaders strengthen trust, improve team relationships, and create the conditions for better performance and loyalty. Judi Lawrence wrote "Your Passport to Apostilles: 116 Tips to Build a Thriving Business as an Apostille Agent," a specialized business guide that helps notaries and entrepreneurs understand apostille work, build confidence, and grow a profitable service-based business. Please join me in welcoming Bill, Kate, and Judi. Would you please leave an honest rating and review on Apple Podcast? They are extremely helpful, and I read each one. Thanks for the inspiration! In this episode, we discuss the following: 🟠 Shorten The Learning Curve: Books can help readers avoid mistakes the author already learned the hard way. 🟠 Define A Healthy Standard: A leadership book can show readers what better management and workplace support look like. 🟠 Build Around The Book: Lead magnets, services, webinars, podcasts, and speaking can turn a book into an ecosystem. 🟠 Learn From Author Communities: Coaches, mentors, and peer groups can reveal the publishing steps first-time authors cannot see yet. 🟠 Write For One Person: A focused reader makes the book stronger, even when not every review is glowing. HUB 515: AUTHOR PANEL - Kate Colbert and Nikki Green
2026/07/28
One of the biggest fears aspiring authors carry is the fear of negative reviews. What if people do not like the book? What if someone misunderstands the message? What if the reviews are harsh, public, and permanent? That fear stops some entrepreneurs from ever starting the book they’ve been thinking about writing. But often, the real issue is not the possibility of criticism. It’s the lack of clarity before the writing even begins. When you know exactly who the book is for, what problem it solves, and how it connects to your expertise, the fear starts to lose its grip. You stop trying to please everyone, and you start focusing on deeply serving the right readers. That’s one of the reasons I created the Author ROI Lab. It helps entrepreneurs think strategically about their book before they invest months writing it. We test whether the message is clear, whether the audience is defined, and whether the book is positioned to support meaningful business goals. Because when you know your message will resonate with the right people, the fear of a few negative reviews no longer feels nearly as important. If you’re considering writing a book and want to approach it with greater clarity and confidence, schedule a complimentary chat at www.BookLaunchBrainstorm.com to learn more about the Author ROI Lab. And now, let’s meet today’s panelists. Kate Colbert wrote "Commencement: The Beginning of a New Era in Higher Education," a thought-provoking exploration of how colleges and universities must rethink their approach to leadership, communication, and student engagement in order to adapt to a rapidly changing educational landscape. Nikki Green wrote "Chameleon Mindset: Creative Ways To Embrace Change And Build Mental Resilience To Transform Your Career & Life," an encouraging and actionable book that helps readers strengthen resilience and navigate transitions with greater confidence. In this episode, we discuss the following: 🟠 Know the Reader First: Clarity about the audience helps reduce the fear of negative reviews. 🟠 Use Original Research: Proprietary data and interviews can make a nonfiction book more useful and more media-worthy. 🟠 Distill Big Ideas: Readers often want an expert to synthesize complex information into something actionable. 🟠 Build A Clear Framework: A memorable structure helps readers apply the ideas instead of just reading about them. 🟠 Let The Audience Evolve: A book may reach readers you did not expect once the message starts spreading. 🟠 Keep Marketing Alive: Promotional moments can bring new attention to books that still have evergreen value. 🟠 Plan The Whole Race: Writing, publishing, and marketing all need attention before the book is finished. HUB 514: EXPERT INTERVIEW - Carol Abrahamson
2026/07/21
What can a book do after it’s published, especially if you want it to create more visibility and credibility for your work? Today’s guest helps authors think more strategically about that next chapter. She works with fiction and nonfiction authors at every stage, from those still planning their book to those whose book came out years ago, helping them make the most of what they’ve created. She is a former book awards judge, a former McGraw-Hill executive, and the author of 42 nonfiction books. Through Book Award Mastery, she helps authors research the right award opportunities and build a practical plan to use award recognition in support of their larger goals. If you’ve ever wondered whether book awards are worth the effort, or how they can support the life of your book after publication, this conversation will give you a lot to think about. Please join me in welcoming one of our Biz Book Pub Hub Partners, Carol Abrahamson. 🟠 Use Awards Strategically: A book award is more useful when it is connected to a larger action plan. 🟠 Think Beyond Recognition: Awards and bestseller status can support credibility, but they are not the end goal. 🟠 Build A Multi-Year Plan: The real value comes from what authors do before, during, and after the award process. 🟠 Research The Right Opportunities: Not every award is legitimate, relevant, or worth pursuing. 🟠 Revisit Older Books: Some quality awards are open to books published years ago, especially if the content is still timely. 🟠 Let The Book Open Doors: Carol’s first book worked as a strategic introduction to the exact clients she wanted to reach. 🟠 Trust Curated Expertise: Authors benefit when they can find reliable service providers instead of navigating the publishing world alone. HUB 513: AUTHOR PANEL - Jenn T. Grace and Stephen Shapiro
2026/07/14
You can write a great book, have a strong message, and still struggle to gain traction after publication. Why? Too many authors treat their launch as a marketing event instead of a relationship-building opportunity. That’s where a launch team changes everything. A launch team is not just a group of people who buy your book. It’s a carefully chosen community of readers, supporters, likely prospects, and referral partners who help create momentum before and during your launch. They help generate reviews, spread the word, and create early engagement that gives your book credibility and visibility. But the real magic goes beyond Amazon reviews. A thoughtful launch team strategy helps wake up your network. It creates conversations with people who may not have heard from you in a while. It opens doors to podcasts, speaking opportunities, collaborations, and future clients. Done well, a launch becomes more than a moment. It becomes the beginning of a stronger pipeline from your book to your business. That’s the strategy I teach in my fourth book, “LAUNCH Your Book! An Entrepreneur’s Guide to Reviews That Drive Revenue.” If you want to build a launch team that creates revenue opportunities, you can find the book, bonus content, and an invitation to schedule a complimentary 30-minute book launch brainstorming session at www.BookLaunchBrainstorm.com. And now, let’s meet this week’s author panel: Jenn T. Grace wrote "Promote Your Purpose: A Strategic Guide to Book Marketing for Nonfiction Authors Who Want to Grow Their Impact, Influence, and Income," a practical and empowering resource that helps nonfiction authors market their books strategically so they can expand their visibility, strengthen their authority, and create meaningful business growth. Stephen Shapiro wrote "You're Not Playing with a Full Deck: Why the Coworkers Who Drive You Crazy Are Your Unfair Advantage," a thought-provoking leadership book that explores how different thinking styles and workplace personalities can become a source of innovation, collaboration, and stronger team performance. In this episode, we discuss the following: 🟠 Market Before Publication: Book marketing works better when it starts while the book is still being shaped. 🟠 Design Books To Be Used: A shorter, action-focused book can be more valuable than a dense one people never open. 🟠 Match Metrics To The Book: Different books can serve different goals, from client attraction to product sales. 🟠 Build A Business Ecosystem: Speaking, consulting, workshops, books, cards, and programs work better when they feed each other. 🟠 Reframe Promotion As Service: Marketing feels less sleazy when it becomes an invitation to learn. 🟠 Customize Bulk Orders: Event-specific editions can make books more valuable for clients and audiences. 🟠 Beta Test Before Publishing: Early readers can improve the book and become invested launch team supporters. HUB 512: AUTHOR PANEL - Angie Callen and Renee Rubin Ross
2026/07/07
You’ve got a great book idea. You know your content is strong, your message matters, and you’re confident people will benefit from it. So you write the book, publish it, and wait. And wait. Many entrepreneurial authors fall into the “build it, and they will come” mindset. They believe that if the book is good enough, readers will find it, share it, and create momentum on their behalf. But that’s not how it works. Books do not create visibility on their own. They need a strategy behind them. A plan to reach the right readers, engage your network, and create conversations that lead to opportunities. Before you start writing, it’s important to think about how your book will actually get into people’s hands and how it will connect back to your business. That’s where the Author ROI Lab comes in. It helps entrepreneurs think strategically about their book before they invest months of effort, so they can create something that not only gets written but also delivers results. If you want to make sure your book doesn’t sit quietly after it’s published, visit www.BookLaunchBrainstorm.com and schedule a complimentary 30-minute book launch brainstorming session. Now, let’s meet this week’s author panel. Angie Callen wrote "Scary Good: Discovering Life Beyond the Sunday Scaries," an empowering guide that helps professionals move beyond burnout and anxiety to build careers and lives that feel aligned, fulfilling, and sustainable. Renee Rubin Ross wrote "Inclusive Strategic Planning for Nonprofits: A Five-Step Process to Expand Energy, Alignment, and Opportunity," a practical guide that helps nonprofit leaders engage stakeholders, align priorities, and create strategic plans that are both inclusive and actionable. In this episode, we discuss the following: 🟠 Know The Core Reader: A clear picture of who needs the book helps shape what stays in and what gets cut. 🟠 Don’t Cram Everything: Releasing two strong books is better than trying to write the definitive book. 🟠 Write From Real Content: Blog posts and ongoing writing can become raw material you shape into a book. 🟠 Get Feedback Early: Early readers help you tighten the framing before you finalize the manuscript. 🟠 Never Too Early: Start building your launch team while writing the book. HUB 511: AUTHOR INTERVIEW - Stacey Larsen
2026/06/30
What happens after a successful book launch, once the book is out in the world and the real work of turning ideas into impact begins? Today’s guest is returning to the podcast after launching her first book, “Reframing the Leadership Dance: The Secret to Finding Your Rhythm as a People Leader,” in May 2024.  Since our last conversation, about a year after it was released, she has continued to build a body of resources around the book, including companion materials, reflection tools, the Empower Your People Leadership Lab, and a leadership mastermind designed to help people apply the ideas to their real-life challenges. Her work helps leaders stop blaming the “difficult person” in front of them and start noticing the conversation patterns they are caught in. Through her company, Authentic Edge, she supports leaders and HR partners who want to make people leadership feel more grounded, practical, and sustainable. I had the privilege of supporting her through her review-focused launch, and I’m excited to continue the conversation two years after her first book launched. Say goodbye to doing leadership alone and say hello to my guest, Stacey Larsen. In this episode, we discuss the following: 🟠 What Happened After Launch: The real work started once the book was in readers’ hands. 🟠 Reviews Keep Building: The launch passed 50 written reviews and later approached 90 through steady follow-through. 🟠 Launch Calls Sparked Conversations: Live calls and recordings gave people a tip they could use and share. 🟠 The Book and Program Feed Each Other: Some readers start with the book, then join the program, and others do the reverse. 🟠 Reading Is Not The Same As Buying: Getting people to take action from what they read is the real challenge. 🟠 Build The Customer Journey: Clear pathways between the book, resources, and offers made the work easier to sustain. HUB 510: AUTHOR PANEL - Anne Bartolucci and David Newman
2026/06/23
You’ve written a book, and you’re getting close to publishing it. You know launch day matters, and you want the book to make an impact. Don’t make this common but costly mistake: skip building a launch team. Authors often assume a few social posts, an email or two, and maybe some goodwill from their network will be enough. But without a launch team in place, there’s no group of readers ready to post reviews and boost early visibility. A launch team is not just a nice extra. It is one of the smartest ways to turn your launch into a real business development opportunity. The right team can help wake up your network in a way that leads to sales conversations and referrals. I’m a book launch strategist. I share my launch strategies in my fourth book, “LAUNCH Your Book! An Entrepreneur’s Guide to Reviews That Drive Revenue.” I recommend reading it if you want a strategy to drive 50 or more Amazon reviews and build a stronger pipeline from your book to your business. I’m happy to chat. You can find the book, bonus content, and an invitation to schedule a complimentary 30-minute book launch brainstorming session at www.BookLaunchBrainstorm.com. And now, let’s meet today’s panelists. Anne Bartolucci wrote "Better Sleep for the Overachiever," a practical and science-backed guide that helps high-performing professionals improve their sleep so they can think more clearly, perform at a higher level, and sustain their energy without burning out. David Newman is the author of multiple books, including his latest "Market Eminence: 22 Strategies to Build a Bold Personal Brand, Become a Business Celebrity, and Drive Unstoppable Growth," a high-impact playbook that shows entrepreneurs how to stand out in a crowded marketplace, build authority, and turn their expertise into consistent visibility and revenue. Please join me in welcoming Anne and David.  In this episode, we discuss the following: 🟠 Don’t Skip the Launch Team: Without one, you do not have readers ready to post early reviews. 🟠 Reviews Create Early Lift: A review plan supports credibility and visibility right after publication. 🟠 Publishing Has Changed: The panel reflects on how traditional, hybrid, and independent publishing paths continue to shift. 🟠 Major Media Isn’t the Gatekeeper: The old rules around “legitimacy” and media reviews are different now. 🟠 Stand Out in a Noisy Market: Differentiation gets harder when everyone can publish content fast.
