Shocktober time is here and we’re checking out the start of a franchise that neither of us know much about, there’s a tall man and a flying killing sphere, and that is the sum total going in to Phantasm. Before that, though, they talk Digger, Verity, Lanterns, Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger, Linkin Park: Unshatter, The Lost Children Of Tuam, The Uprising and Celebrity Traitors series 2. Ohoho, this is a long old film, in that it is long and it is old, nearly a century. We watch the 150 minute restored version of Fritz Lang’s sci-fi originator, and play a game of fictional cinematic cities whilst also talking The Traitors Ireland, Fall 2: Deadpoint, Insomniac’s Wolverine for PS5, Carly Rae Jepsen’s new double album Day & Night and Zach Cregger’s adaptation of Resident Evil. We take a few weeks and lose Dolly and Curry, who wasn’t protecting them whilst we had a little time to ourselves? As such, this ep starts with a little memorialising before looking at Coyote Vs. ACME, Bad Apples, Mayday, Spa Weekend, I Want Your Sex, Cyrano De Bergerac on the West End and best break-up film watches, it’s been heavy. These Modern Times indeed are stressful, chaotic and full of melodrama, just as Chaplin predicted. We recorded a few weeks prior because someone stole our time, so we finally get around to talking The End Of Oak Street, the first episode of Lanterns and an elegy to Hayden Panettiere, Juliette Barnes herself from Nashville, before facing up to the Italian post-war melodrama and ‘Very Important Film On All The Film Lists’, which is something this show tends to avoid for the sake of lesser-watched/considered films, but Johnny needs to tick some of the lists off. All this plus a game of name the film from the stolen/destroyed vehicle. Decade 2 begins with a bang, a couple of quizzes, talk of a Johnny Cash stage musical, catching up with Broken Lizard’s Super Troopers 3, David Wain’s Gail Daughtry & The Celebrity Sex Pass and an unboxing of the Kill Bill The Whole Bloody Affair 4K box set. Then we set off for Happy, Texas and talk Sundance acquisitions, Steve Zahn, William H. Macy’s groans and them not making comedies anymore (Except the above noted new release comedies). OPA! We’re hucking ouzo and dancing like Zorba with the cultural phenomenon of 2002, long gone now, trying to examine the artifacts of a civilisation now long gone (the romantic comedy that actually gets a cinema release). Johnny catches up with Minions & Monsters and two boat films (Moana and The Odyssey) and Andrew jumps in to discuss Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the somehow-nearly-one-billion-dollars-in-opening-weekend smash. Plus we make up for no game last ep with the Ghost game in act one and a wedding of trivia in act three. Johnny wants Evil Dead Burn to be the basis of the next step of the franchise, Andrew gets The Invite to The Odyssey with Moana, then gets on stage with Arcadia and Glengarry Glen Ross, Johnny sees Legally Blonde live and the two reunited in London for Jesus Christ Superstar. Then after ALL that stuff, they got out the pottery wheel, hit play on Unchained Melody and watched Whoopi, Demi, Tony and Swayze get ghostly and romantic/spooky. Andrew holds the novelisation of Ivan Reitman’s sci-fi-gang-hangout-comedy film Evolution and reads snippets before taking Johnny on a journey from head to shoulder through Duchovny’s charming handsomeness. And the two talk Supergirl, Toy Story 5, Jackass: Best And Last, Minions & Monsters, The Furious, They Will Kill You, Carolina Caroline and Johnny’s trip to Jesus Christ Superstar in Derry. We might not be doing an MTV this time but it’s got MTV News in it, Beavis & Butthead and it’s music-first so it’s as close as one can get for a Die Hard In A Radio Station Opposite Nakatomi Tower On The Same Plaza feature with Fraser, Sandler and Buscemi. On the air and held hostage by films, Andrew and Johnny consider Disclosure Day, Masters Of The Universe, Office Romance, Backrooms, Tuner, the 2026 Scary Movie and Johnny has now solved the mystery of The Sheep Detectives too. Rock on! THE FERRYMAN UPON THE PLAINS - Andrew’s First Novel - Out Now! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ferryman-Upon-Plains-Andrew-Jones-ebook/dp/B0F39C3WM4/

Welcome to the OC! Don’t call it that. Andrew shares an important film of his youth about important art in youth with Johnny, throws two games at him and then goes off on rants about The Mandalorian & Grogu, Finding Emily, Power Ballad and finds The Sheep Detectives charming as hell. Johnny talks his Obsession with The Last Five Years of Miss Saigon on stage and playing 007: First Light. It’s Britney, Bitch and she’s not a girl, not yet a woman in the road-trip drama written by Shonda Rhimes and co-starring Zoe Oscar-winner Saldaña! Johnny is pumped for the songs, Andrew is reserved since hearing word from a friend way back in 2002, but they’ve got to talk the new Martin Short documentary and the Faces Of Death reboot and Johnny’s vinyl collection that’s just starting before they head on to the film true. Charlize! Weird sci fi stuff! Worm outfit Postlethwaite! Well, yeesh, this is a weird film that never works so we hide that by talking Hokum, Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, The Devil Wears Prada & Mortal Kombat sequels, Billie Eilish in 3D, Apex, Remarkably Bright Creatures and The Comeback season 3. Another birthday, another chat-track. As Andrew looks on the wrong side of his thirties, we rewatch a rock opera for the 20th anniversary celebration a few months early. Games, trivia, singing along and nostalgia for a preview weekend when everyone else was watching Bond change course forever instead, this has mostly everything worth listening to. Movie starts at 00:24:38 Because of the cartoon at the start we sync right at frame one. Celebrate Andrew’s birthday by buying his epic western thriller THE FERRYMAN UPON THE PLAINS https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ferryman-Upon-Plains-Andrew-Jones-ebook/dp/B0F39C3WM4/

Hey budddddddddy, we’re squeezin’ the wheeze with Pauly Shore causing trouble in a bubble, but to raise our IQ prior it’s time to talk some theatre (The Hunger Games on stage and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest at the Old Vic), Streaming TV (Shrinking’s 3rd season and Malcolm In The Middle: Life’s Still Unfair) and a little A24 horror film (Undertone) lest we lose every brain cell in the dome. Smashing the windows and stealing plans for the podcast this week turns out that discussion topics would be The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, The Drama, Jury Duty: Company Retreat, Last One Laughing UK series 2 and No Ordinary Heist with Eddie Marsan, before taking focus on Anthony Minghella’s final film that stars Jude Law, Juliette Binoche, Robin Wright, Martin Freeman, Vera Farmiga and Ray Winstone, all about London in transitional phases. Sounds like a cracking episode, best leave this on the desk and let them record it. Here, it’s done. Sorry for this lame premise of an episode description. It’s ok Andrew. Thanks Andrew. No problem Andrew, don’t mention it. I won’t, but I will write it in the description too Andrew. Oh no, now there’s a paper trail on the crime! Rats.
