S2E11 Gotta Catch ’Em All (Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire)
2026/09/07
S2E10 Gotta Catch ’Em All (Bird Pokémon) We recorded this Episode in July and I just haven't gotten around to the edits until now. Chris and I FINALLY sit down to discuss Ruby and Sapphire on the Gameboy Advance. I personally didn't play these games so it was great to get Chris' insight into the new aspects they added into the games, as well as the overall impression of them.   Because I am editing this so much later than the recording, I didn't want to delay things further by adding in a "Checkpoint" section. I'll add the notes here instead: - Chris is correct and Pokémon Crystal was the first game to allow you to be a female protagonist. - Pokémon Contests are really confusing. I feel like my questions didn't totally clear up the process. You enter a Pokémon of your choice into a specific Contest (Cool, Beauty, Tough, etc.). A Pokémon's moves have a specific clearly labeled contest stat and when you use it, the judge and audience reaction derives a score. Different aspects of a Pokémon (like Nature) gave them a starting advantage in the contests along with...Pokeblocks?! While digging into this some more, the contests were quite complicated and confusing for many players. I really enjoyed the description of the Gen 3 contests featured by this Youtuber (alyo) to get a brief grasp of how it all worked: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WX_UN38vab0&t=58s   - I realized only during editing that I mentioned I like Corsola as a new addition. Corsola was introduced in Gen II (Gold/Silver) and not Gen III. Whoops! The intro/outro music is: Symphogear G - "Rainbow Flower" Lyrics/Composition: Noriyasu Agematsu Arrangement: Seima Iwahashi Vocals: Aoi Yuki Please visit us at: https://theconartistsblog.com/ and subscribe to our feed (http://theconartists.podbean.com/feed/) to get more podcasts! Rolling Review - Shūmatsu Torein Doko e Iku? (Train to the End of the World)
2024/10/27
The activation of the 7G Network was supposed to catapult Japan into the future. Instead, it left reality stretched and broken outside of one specific train line leading to source of the disaster. When a trio of girls learn that one of their friends may still be alive near the end of the line, they embark on a journey through increasingly bizarre stations to reunite with her, confronting weirdness at every turn. The Con Artists have some thoughts on whether the promise of the show holds up over its length.   Want to see our episode-by-episode thoughts on Train to the End of the World? Read our Rolling Reviews here: https://theconartistsblog.com/rolling-review/   The intro music is: "GA-TAN GO-TON" by Rei Nakashima   The outro music is: "Eureka" by Rokudenashi   Disclaimer: The Con Artists own nothing but our opinions and this podcast.

After successfully defeating the Demon Lord after a ten-year journey, the nigh-immortal elf Frieren soon separates from her companions, the adventure seemingly a footnote in her long life.  Yet something about her former companions compels her to make a new journey, to discover more about herself and them even after they have passed on.  Listen to the Con Artists talk about this incredible show, its solid worldbuilding and its interesting magic.   Want to see our episode-by-episode thoughts on Souou no Frieren?
