Bad Blood | Pastor Matt Chappell
2026/08/09
In this message, we continue our journey through 2 Samuel with "Bad Blood," a study of 2 Samuel 14, where Joab enlists a wise woman from Tekoa to confront King David about his estranged son Absalom. Though David's heart longs for reconciliation with the son he banished after Amnon's murder, pride, unresolved grief, and the weight of justice keep father and son apart. This chapter reveals the deep cost of broken relationships left to fester, and challenges us to examine our own "bad blood" — the grudges, silence, and distance we allow to grow instead of pursuing the hard, humble work of restoration. Recovery Mode | Pastor Matt Chappell
2026/08/02
After his affair with Bathsheba and the death of Uriah, David is confronted by the prophet Nathan and forced to face what he's done. In this message from 2 Samuel 12, we see what genuine repentance looks like — not excuses or self-pity, but honest confession before God. David's sin brought real consequences, including the loss of his son, but it didn't disqualify him from God's grace or purpose. If you've ever felt like your failures have put you too far outside of God's reach, this message is a reminder that recovery is always possible when we come clean before Him. Didn't See That Coming
2026/07/12
In 2 Samuel 10, an act of kindness gets tragically misread as a threat and what should have been a simple gesture of goodwill spirals into a war nobody wanted. When David sends comfort to a grieving king, paranoid advisors twist his intentions, leading to humiliation, conflict, and consequences no one saw coming. Join us as we explore how misplaced suspicion can derail relationships, how God remains faithful even when situations spiral out of control, and what this conflict teaches us about trusting God's people instead of assuming the worst. A Seat at the Table
2026/07/05
In 2 Samuel 9, King David seeks out anyone left from the house of Saul to whom he can "show the kindness of God" — and finds Mephibosheth, a man crippled in both feet, living in obscurity and fear. What follows is one of Scripture's clearest pictures of grace: David restores Mephibosheth's inheritance and gives him a permanent place at the king's table, not because he earned it, but because of a covenant promise. In this message, we explore how this ancient story mirrors our own broken, hidden, and unable to stand on our own and how God, our greater King, seeks us out to bring us home and seat us at His table as sons and daughters. Better Plans
2026/06/28
Have you ever had a good plan that God redirected into something far greater? In 2 Samuel 7, King David wants to build a house for God — a permanent temple to honor the Lord who has given him rest from his enemies. But God has other plans. Through the prophet Nathan, God flips the script entirely: instead of David building a house for God, God will build a house for David — an everlasting dynasty and covenant that points far beyond any earthly kingdom. In this message, we'll explore how God's plans are always better than our own, how His promises outlast our best intentions, and how the Davidic Covenant finds its ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the true and better Son of David. God at the Center
2026/06/21
In this sermon, we journey through 2 Samuel 6 as David brings the Ark of the Covenant back to Jerusalem and discover what happens when worship is approached on God's terms rather than our own. From the tragic death of Uzzah to David's bold, uninhibited dance before the Lord, this passage challenges us to examine what (or who) truly sits at the center of our lives and our worship. Join us as we explore how a heart fully surrendered to God leads to genuine, unashamed praise, and what it means to put God back at the center of everything we do. The Sound in the Mulberry Trees
2026/06/15
In this passage, David is anointed king over all Israel, captures Jerusalem, and establishes it as his capital — but one of the most striking moments in the chapter comes when the Philistines march against him and God gives him an unusual battle instruction: wait for the sound in the mulberry trees. In this message, we explore what it means to move with God rather than simply for God — learning that even when we've been given a promise, timing and obedience still matter. Just because something is yours doesn't mean it's time to take it. David's victory wasn't just about strategy or strength; it was about listening for the signal only God could give. When the Time is Right
2026/06/08
Have you ever felt ready for something only to realize God's timing looked nothing like yours? In 2 Samuel 2:1–24, we find David at one of the most pivotal moments of his life. Years after being anointed king, Saul is dead, the throne is open — and yet David doesn't charge forward on his own. He stops and inquires of the Lord. What follows is a masterclass in God-directed waiting, faithful obedience, and the tension that comes when man's ambition clashes with divine purpose. David is anointed king over Judah in Hebron, extends grace to those who honored Saul, and is immediately met with conflict as Abner sets up a rival king — a reminder that God's timing rarely means a smooth road. In this message, we'll explore what it means to wait on God without losing heart, move when He says move, and trust that His plans are unfolding even when opposition rises. Strength For Your Soul
2026/06/01
In this message we dive into Numbers 21:4-9, where the Israelites found themselves exhausted and complaining in the wilderness — and God met them right in the middle of their struggle. Just as God provided a way of healing and restoration for His people through the bronze serpent lifted up in the desert, Jesus Christ has been lifted up on the cross to bring life and wholeness to all who look to Him in faith (John 3:14-15). No matter what trials you're facing, God's grace is sufficient, His mercy is near, and there is strength available for your soul today. Your wilderness season is not the end of your story — it's where God does some of His greatest work. I have decided - https://rockhill.church/next-steps Give - https://rockhill.church/give
No Time To Panic
2026/05/25
When life feels overwhelming and the odds seem impossible, our first instinct is often to panic — but God calls us to something greater. In this powerful message, we dive into Numbers 14:1-24, where the Israelites stood at the edge of the Promised Land and chose fear over faith. Despite witnessing miracle after miracle, the people wept, complained, and even plotted a return to the very slavery God had delivered them from. Yet in the midst of their panic, bold voices like Caleb and Joshua stood firm, reminding the people that God was with them and that no obstacle was too great for His power. Grapes and Giants
2026/05/18
In this message, we follow twelve spies sent into the Promised Land on a scouting mission and what they find will test everything they believe. The land is rich, the fruit is abundant, and the evidence of God's provision is undeniable. But looming in that same land are giants, walled cities, and every reason fear could offer to turn back. Through this story, we'll discover how the same set of facts can produce two completely different responses, one rooted in faith and one paralyzed by fear, and we'll be challenged to examine which lens we're using to view the giants in our own lives. Take Back Your Thinking
2026/05/11
In this message we explore Numbers 11:1–23, where the Israelites — fresh from God's miraculous deliverance — fall into complaint, craving, and unbelief. Despite all God had done, they allowed their minds to drift back to Egypt, romanticizing bondage while despising His provision. Their grumbling wasn't just a mood, it was a mindset. In this message, we unpack how toxic thinking breeds discontentment, how nostalgia for the wrong things can stall your destiny, and how God's hand is never too short to meet your need. It's time to evict the thoughts holding you hostage and take back your thinking! I have decided - https://rockhill.church/next-steps Give - https://rockhill.church/give
Big Rocks First
2026/05/04
In this message we take a close look at Mark 1:29-39 and one remarkable day in the life of Jesus, a day packed with healing, ministry, and human need pressing in from every direction. Yet even in the chaos, Jesus doesn't just react to whatever is loudest. He serves with purpose, withdraws to be alone with the Father in the early morning hours, and keeps His eyes fixed on why He came, to reach people with the good news of the Kingdom. In just a few verses, we see what happens when life is ordered around what matters most. I have decided - https://rockhill.church/next-steps Give - https://rockhill.church/give
Faith in a Famine
2026/04/27
In a world that often feels like it's running on empty, God's provision never runs dry. In this message, Faith in a Famine, we dive into the remarkable story of Elijah and the widow of Zarephath, a desperate woman down to her last handful of flour and drop of oil, yet called to an act of radical faith. Discover how God meets us in our moments of scarcity, how obedience unlocks His provision, and why the jar never ran out. Whether you're facing a financial struggle, an emotional drought, or a season of uncertainty, this message will challenge and encourage you to trust that the God who provided then is still providing now. It Runs in the Family
2026/04/20
In this powerful message, we explore the legacy of faith that runs through the family of Moses, a faith so bold and unwavering that it defied the most powerful empire on earth. From the courageous act of his parents hiding him as an infant, to Moses himself choosing the reproach of Christ over the pleasures and treasures of Egypt, we see that faith is not just a personal decision, it's a generational inheritance. When faith is modeled in the home, it shapes the next generation to walk in boldness, purpose, and obedience to God.
