My daughter Alexa has been asking me when she can come onto the podcast for awhile now. She's been on twice in the past, Episode 19 and a Bonus Mini Episode. So, we were bored on a Sunday night and decided to sit down and have a little chat about a couple things she enjoys. Especially the movies "The Basketball Diaries" and "Titanic" as well as the true history of the ship. We talk about our little vacation to Tennessee as well as some banter throughout. An Academy Award Winning Make-Up and Effects Artist. A legend with an absolutely incredible resumé. My guest on Episode 232 of The Brooklyn Blast Furnace Podcast is John Caglione Jr. He earned his Academy Award for his make-up effects on "Dick Tracy" in 1990. He created Heath Ledger's "Joker" make-up in "The Dark Knight". He is Al Pacino's "go-to" guy and has worked with him on a ton of projects including "The Irishman", "Heat", "Paterno", "Insomnia" and "Donnie Brasco" to name a few. Dick Smith aka "The Godfather of Make-up" took John under his wing and gave him a shot. He has gone on to work on hundreds of movies and television shows combined including, "The Departed", "American Gangster", "Fatal Attraction", "The Amazing Spiderman" and "Amistad". His early experiences were on helping to create the "Coneheads" make-up on "Saturday Night Live", "Friday the 13th Part 2", "C.H.U.D.", "Basket Case" and "Scanners". Thats all just scratching the surface. His humility and gratitude are second to none and this was a lot of fun to do. Enjoy.

My guest on Episode 214 of The Brooklyn Blast Furnace Podcast is Randy Shanofsky. Randy is a First Assistant Cameraman. His story is an incredible and how it came to fruition is pretty near impossible. From ordering a pair of shoes out of Rolling Stone magazine, he got his foot in the door in order to become a cinematographer. Almost forty years later he's still at it. He has worked on television shows and movies ever since. From the set of "The Outsiders" to "Beverly Hills 90210", "Masters of the Universe", "24", "Elvira: Mistress of the Dark", "Chicago Hope", "Cocktail", "The New Adventures of Lois and Clark" to "Desperate Housewives" just to name a few. A unique story from a sweetheart of a guy, but don't catch him in a bad mood or he'll put you in your place as he did to Charles Bronson. Yes... Randy wasn't havin' it. Enjoy!

Hands down, one of the episodes that I never could've imagined would ever happen. I've touched on the time I was in the Air Force on previous episodes. This coming March 20th will be 25 years to the day that I arrived at Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. This entire episode was surreal on a personal level. We go into his past, the reason why I joined, what led me to join his Flight from the initial Flight I was assigned to, I confess to some shenanigans that I would've gotten into a lot of trouble for if I was caught, he fills me in on some "inside info" on how they mess around with trainees amongst a bunch of other stories. My guest for Episode 174... Part 2 in the "Bane 2.0" series is bass player, Brendan "Stu" Maguire! Stu played and toured with "Bane" extensively and recorded the "World Series" 7" collection in 2009. We begin this episode speaking about his battle with pancreatic cancer. For what this man has gone and is going through, his positive attitude and fight is second to none. It's inspiring to say the least. We both called the first half hour or so of this conversation, "The Ailment Episode" since he tells his story, then I wasn't going to, but he wanted me to tell mine as well. Not that we're comparing, but my story doesn't even come close. We then go into his history, growing up, and his time in "Reach the Sky". I never met Stu in person and really hope that I do sooner than later. The man is an inspiration and my hat goes off to his amazingly supportive family. Curator at "The Outsiders House Museum" in Tulsa, Oklahoma, founder of the "Delta Bravo Urban Exploration Team", as well as founding member of both "La Coka Nostra" and "House of Pain". Danny was on a short episode of the podcast a couple years back. That was the first time I had a full conversation with him. Since then, I've gotten to know him and he's one of the most genuine people I know. The Funky Uncle Sloppy... the "individualist"... Ricky Powell. I met up with the legendary photographer on West 8th Street in the West Village at Evas Kitchen to talk that nonsense. He tells the story of how he got his first camera, after being "played like a wet tuna sandwich" and the reasoning behind him deciding to take to the streets to take photos. His early days as a kid, meeting the "Beastie Boys" and going on the road with them and "Run DMC" on the "Raising Hell" Tour. From his public access television show, "Rappin' with The Rickster" to photographing people like Cindy Crawford, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Mike Tyson, Eazy-E, Laurence Fishburn, Dondi and countless others along with the the six books he's put out and so much in between while "crunching on a crispy knish". I sat down with the Cult Leader. ILL BILL. Founder of "Non Phixion", a member of "La Coka Nostra" and along with Vinnie Paz, he is one half of "Heavy Metal Kings". He invited me to his house in Brooklyn to have a conversation, which, he rarely does. So, for that, I'm thankful. We go way back to Canarsie, to 5714 Farrigut Road in the early 80's when he started listening to metal and hip hop in the Glenwood Projects. When he was in a death metal band, "Injustice", playing the "Battle of the Bands" at South Shore High School (which I attended as well) and playing at L'amour opening for bands like "Sepultura". From the beginning of the formation of "Non Phixion", his solo career, the birth of "La Coka Nostra" with Danny Boy, DJ Lethal, Everlast of "House of Pain", Slaine and Big Left. To working with DJ Muggs for the "Kill Devil Hills" record and the formation of "Heavy Metal Kings". There's a lot of history here leading up to his brand new record that he did with Stu-Bangas, "Cannibal Hulk". Legendary Producer, Beat Maker, Rapper and one half of The Infamous... Mobb Deep! Havoc joins me on Episode 94 of The Brooklyn Blast Furnace Podcast! I met up with him at a small restaurant in Williamsburg, Brooklyn for a laid back discussion about the history of Mobb Deep. From way back when they were called "The Poetical Prophets" to blowing up right after they were featured in the "Unsigned Hype" section of "The Source" magazine. From the first demo to the "Juvenile Hell" record all the way through to the last. His solo records, record labels, fame, tours, an enormous list of people he made beats for and everything in between up until now and what he is doing into the future. I even reminded him about the time he almost died on stage at Tigers Stadium in Detroit on the last date of the "Anger Management" tour with Eminem and 50 Cent. Jimmy's daughter, 9 year old Alexa wanted to be "on the radio" again. She was a guest on Episode 19 and enjoyed herself. One of my best friends and brother... Ian Shafer. Old School Punk Rocker and World Class Tattoo Artist. Ian and I met under crazy circumstances in 2004 in a Therapeutic Community in Rhinebeck, New York. I mentioned him on Episodes 49 and 51 in my "Life & Times" series briefly. He definitely has a very unique life story. Some serious, some hysterical and some absolutely bat shit crazy and almost unbelievable. One of the most stand up guys I've ever known.
