Ventriloquist and comedy historian Steve Hewlett has become something of a regular on the podcast over the years, appearing an astonishing four times since February 2018. Our mutual passion for the golden years of Variety has been the recipe for some fantastic moments on the podcast, whether it’s been celebrating the late Ken Dodd in a special lockdown episode or taking to the stage at Gurnard Pines on the Isle of Wight to celebrate his comedy heroes. As part of the tenth anniversary of Beyond The Title, I caught up with my close friend to celebrate his journey. Let’s welcome back Steve Hewlett.
BTT @ 10 - Steve Nallon In Celebration
2026/09/10
Writer, author, puppeteer and Impressionist Steve Nallon first graced the Beyond The Title microphone back in the autumn of 2017 when we were just a year into the podcast. Fresh from the acclaimed Jonathan Maitland play Dead Sheep in which he reprised his iconic Spitting Image role as Margaret Thatcher, we spoke of his extraordinary journey from the 1970’s working men’s circuit to being at the cutting edge of the satirical boom of the 1980’s. Since we last spoke, Nallon has released his debut children’s novel The Time That Never Was followed by a collaboration with Beyond The Title royalty Dick Fiddy for the sci-fi celebration Destination Time Travel. As part of our 10th anniversary celebrations, I caught up with beloved friend of the podcast to share memories of the past 10 years. Let’s welcome back Steve Nallon.

Just a year later, Fox won a New York Festival award for her Radio 5Live documentary Learning To Walk Again before joining the team on the consumer affairs programme Watchdog. Rick Witter - In Conversation
2026/07/17
Singer/songwriter Rick Witter found fame in the mid nineties as the frontman of the soft rock band Shed 7. Formed in York in 1990 Shed 7 originally comprised of Witter on vocals, Joe Johnson on keyboard and guitar, bassist Tom Gladwin and Alan Leach on drums. Their debut album Change Giver was released in September 1994 in the midst of the beginnings of Britpop and was the perfect soundtrack to a changing Britain. Yet it was Shed 7’s follow up album A Maximum High which would cement their status as indie icons with timeless hits including Standby. This was followed by the 1998 album Let It Ride featuring the timeless track She Left Me On a Friday. I caught up with the evergreen rocker on the set of Shed 7’s performance at the Isle of Wight Festival to talk; eras, gold and his recollections of a life in music. Ladies and gentlemen Mr Rick Witter
