Ashton Jeanty and Raiders Run Game Failure Film Breakdown with Zain Dhanani
2026/10/20
Ashton Jeanty and the Raiders run game are under the microscope. Is the problem the 2025 first-round pick, the offensive line, Klint Kubiak’s zone scheme, or all three? 2026/10/19

Why Ashton Jeanty’s Numbers Are Really an Offensive Line Story | Raiders vs. Bills Preview
2026/10/15
Klint Kubiak shut down a report that the Raiders might rest Ashton Jeanty, and Scott spends most of this episode on what sits underneath that story. Jeanty is averaging 2.9 yards per carry, and the Raiders are last in the NFL in yards per carry as a team. Kubiak himself said the staff has been raising concerns about the line for weeks. Scott lays out the case for playing Jeanty and the case for sitting him, says where he lands, and goes through the offensive line one position at a time. Then it’s on to Buffalo. The Bills beat the Rams 37-34 in overtime on Monday night behind Josh Allen, and now they travel to Las Vegas on a short week with injuries at right tackle, wide receiver, and defensive line. Scott covers where the Raiders can attack, whether Maxx Crosby’s snap count should change, the Raiders’ own injury report, and his score prediction. The second half is your calls and videos, covering the offensive line, the best timing for Fernando Mendoza, the defense giving up 34 points a game, and whether this team has an identity yet. Fernando Mendoza: Is it Time for the Raiders to Start Him?
2026/10/13
Should Fernando Mendoza start for the Raiders this Sunday against the Buffalo Bills? Scott’s answer is closer, but not yet, and he names the record that would change it. After the Raiders’ 45-17 loss in New England, Scott goes through Mendoza’s first eight NFL throws and why he wouldn’t read much into them against a Patriots defense playing prevent. He also makes the case that Kirk Cousins didn’t lose this game, looks at whether the offensive line had one bad day or a real problem, and pushes back on Klint Kubiak’s claim that the team abandoned the run. Then he lays out the stretch ahead: Bills, Rams, Jets, 49ers, Seahawks. In this episode: Why Scott would keep Cousins in the lineup for the Bills and Rams Pass protection: 3 sacks, pressure on roughly 4 of 10 dropbacks, and what New England did with four rushers A run game averaging 2.1 yards per carry, with Ashton Jeanty banged up Brock Bowers carrying a passing game with receivers missing What Kubiak said after the game, and what it tells you about the staff The record at which Mendoza starts against Seattle on Nov. 15 TIMESTAMPS 0:00 Should Fernando Mendoza start vs the Bills? 2:09 Patriots 45, Raiders 17: the numbers 4:51 What Mendoza’s eight throws actually showed 6:56 Kirk Cousins didn’t lose this game 9:36 Where Scott lands, and what changes his mind 11:12 Offensive line: one bad game or a pattern? 14:56 The run game: 2.1 yards per carry 15:51 Kalshi sponsor read 18:49 Did Kubiak really abandon the run? 21:17 Brock Bowers is carrying the passing game 25:02 The schedule: Bills, Rams, Jets, 49ers, Seahawks 29:54 Questions about Kubiak and the staff 33:02 Final takeaways Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Raiders Crushed 45-17 by Patriots: Postgame Reaction and the Fernando Mendoza Question
2026/10/11
The Raiders got run out of Foxborough, 45-17. On this Kalshi Silver and Black Today postgame show, Scott goes through what went wrong: a run game that dropped to 2.1 yards per carry, an offensive line that couldn't pass protect or move anybody, a defense that couldn't stop a Patriots receiving group missing its top two wideouts, and a coaching staff that got outplayed by Josh McDaniels. Murph is off this week, so it's Scott solo plus callers. Then the question everybody is asking: when does Fernando Mendoza take over for Kirk Cousins? Scott lays out why he didn't want Mendoza in early, why that wasn't the real problem, and when he thinks the switch comes. Buffalo is next at Allegiant Stadium, then the Rams. Call 702-900-7869 to be part of the podcast during the week. The Silver and Black Today radio show airs Saturdays at 5 PM on 101.5 KDAWN in Las Vegas, and streams on the Audacy app. Chapters: 00:00 Kalshi Postgame Show Kickoff 01:24 Raiders Lose 45-17 at New England 02:44 Drake Maye Torches the Raiders Defense 05:00 Run Game Collapses: 2.1 Yards Per Carry 06:39 Missed Field Goal and the 10-Point Swing 07:37 Offensive Line Problems and Ashton Jeanty 09:46 Klint Kubiak's Game Plan and the Tre Tucker Trick Plays 10:51 Fernando Mendoza Plays the Final Drive 13:51 Raiders Secondary Gets Picked Apart 18:31 Kalshi Pick: Ravens vs Falcons (Code MENDOZA) 20:45 Chat Reacts: Organizational Failure 21:49 Josh McDaniels Outcoaches Rob Leonard 24:09 Pastor Mike Behind Bars Calls In 29:34 Daniel on Maxx Crosby and the Pass Rush 35:36 Tarek on Kubiak's Play Calling and the Next Two Games 43:49 When Do the Raiders Switch to Fernando Mendoza? 51:09 Bills and Rams Ahead: What to Watch 52:07 Call-In Info and Sign-Off Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Raiders Are 3-1 With the Worst Run Game in the NFL & Here's Why
2026/10/08
The Raiders have scored at least 26 points in every game, their first 4-game start like that since 2016, and Kirk Cousins threw for 365 yards against the Chiefs without being sacked. They also have the league's worst run game for the second straight year. Scott starts with the number he can't shake: 57% of Ashton Jeanty's carries are met at or behind the line of scrimmage. From there he works through the numbers (3.1 yards a carry, 93 rushing yards a game, stuffed on 24.4% of runs, all last in the league) and the likely causes: a reshuffled offensive line still learning to work together, tight formations that invite stacked boxes (30.3% of runs, fourth highest in the NFL), and a receiver room with no vertical threat to move a safety out of the box. Klint Kubiak took responsibility for it this week. Scott agrees with part of that. Then Boston Globe Patriots beat writer Chris Price joins from New England. They cover: Whether the Patriots have turned the corner after the win in Buffalo Why that defense stops the run (Milton Williams and Robert Spillane inside, with the edge as the soft spot) The Christian Gonzalez and Christian Barmore injury picture How Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer get covered Where Drake Maye stands at 24 Why young quarterbacks shouldn't be rushed, a conversation that includes Fernando Mendoza What Tom Brady's receivers really looked like Raider Nation Court closes the show with callers on the run game, the wide receiver room, a possible Marvin Harrison Jr. trade, and how much future the Raiders should spend on a wild-card push. 00:00 Cold open: 3-1 with the league's worst run game 01:33 The 57% number 03:24 The full picture: 3.1 yards a carry, 93 yards a game 05:35 Whose fault is it? Raiders Are a Real Wild Card Contender, But Two Problems Remain
2026/10/06
The Las Vegas Raiders lost 30-27 to the Kansas City Chiefs, their first loss of the season. They led 13-10 at halftime, came back late in the fourth quarter and had the ball with a chance to win before the interception. Scott says they lost because of turnovers and special teams, not the field goal that came off the board. The Raiders lost the turnover battle 2-0, Draeke Young's late fumble hurt, and Patrick Mahomes said after the game that this Raiders team is different. The offense is better than people expected. The Raiders are eighth in the NFL in points per game at 28.8 and 12th in passing. Kirk Cousins has 11 touchdown passes, tied with Brock Purdy for the league lead, and he broke Rich Gannon's 2002 franchise record for TD passes through four games. Scott explains why that's part of John Spytek's plan for Fernando Mendoza. Then the two problems. The run game is 25th in the league, and Scott says Ashton Jeanty isn't the reason. Jeanty gets hit at or behind the line of scrimmage on 57% of his carries. The offensive line ranks dead last in run block win rate with Jackson Powers-Johnson out, and defenses are loading the box against the Raiders at the second-highest rate in the NFL. The bigger issue is a wide receiver room with no vertical threat. Scott called that in July, and three national film analysts he checked with agree. He also previews the four-game stretch of Patriots, Bills, Rams and Jets, explains why 2-2 and a 5-3 record is the floor, and why the Raiders won't trade for Marvin Harrison Jr. Thursday: a guest joins to preview Raiders at New England, and the Raider Nation Court of Public Opinion takes your calls. Raiders vs Chiefs Postgame: So Close. What Went Wrong in the 30-27 Loss
2026/10/05
No moral victories, but this one was close. The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Raiders 30-27 at Allegiant Stadium and head into their bye at 4-0, while the Raiders fall to 3-1 with New England, Buffalo and the Rams coming up. Scott Gulbransen and Murf from Raiders Fan Radio go through what went wrong: Kenneth Walker running for 177 yards, a Raiders run game that still can't get Ashton Jeanty going, Klint Kubiak taking a field goal off the board early, the late kickoff fumble, and wide receivers who barely showed up while Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer carried the passing game. They also get into what went right. Kirk Cousins threw for 365 yards without being sacked, the Raiders outgained Kansas City 437 to 399, and Adam Butler and Quay Walker gave Patrick Mahomes problems all night. Raider Nation callers Tariq, Misha and Pastor Mike weigh in on a trade deadline receiver, more snaps for Cody White, and whether Cousins can push the ball deep before Fernando Mendoza takes over. Raiders vs Chiefs Prediction: Can the NFL's Best Defense Stop Mahomes?
2026/10/01
The undefeated Kansas City Chiefs come to Allegiant Stadium on Sunday, and sole possession of first place in the AFC West goes to the winner. Scott Gulbransen calls it the biggest home game the Raiders have played since moving to Las Vegas. Roster news first. Jack Bech goes to IR with a broken forearm, and Cody White comes up from the practice squad after scoring on each of his first three career catches, something only Torrey Smith had done in the last 30 years. Ashton Jeanty finished the Saints game after a trip to the medical tent, but his August ankle is worth watching. The name that matters most is Treydan Stukes. He's still in the concussion protocol, and without him at free safety the middle of the field opens up for Travis Kelce. Then the defense by the numbers: an NFL-best nine takeaways, tied for the league lead in sacks with six different Raiders getting one, Nakobe Dean's league-leading 22 solo tackles and three forced fumbles, and the top EPA per play in football under Rob Leonard. On offense, Kirk Cousins is tied for the NFL lead with nine touchdown passes and is the first Raiders QB to throw three in each of the first three games. Scott also runs through where the national media stands, from NFL.com and SI moving the Raiders into the top 10 to Fox Sports still ranking them 20th. Carrington Harrison of SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio and 96.5 The Fan in Kansas City joins to talk Eric Bieniemy replacing Matt Nagy, Kenneth Walker III leading the NFL in rushing, Patrick Mahomes going 14 for 14 on play-action against Miami, and Kelce's resurgence. He says the Chiefs haven't had a sack in 174 defensive plays and that Maxx Crosby is good enough to win this game by himself. The Raider Nation Court of Public Opinion closes it out with calls from Florida, St. Louis, San Diego and upstate New York, and Scott makes his pick! Are the Raiders for Real at 3-0? The Chiefs Game Will Tell Us
2026/09/29
The Las Vegas Raiders are 3-0 for the first time since 2021 after a 35-27 comeback win over the New Orleans Saints. Down 27-16 late in the third quarter at the Superdome, they scored 19 straight points and forced four fourth-quarter takeaways, including Hezekiah Masses' interception and Jeremy Chinn's strip of Tyler Shough on 4th-and-1. Scott Gulbransen also owns his pregame miss on the takeaways. Then the question everyone's asking: is this team for real? Scott lays out three tests. The defense hasn't allowed a fourth-quarter point in three games. Kirk Cousins went 22 of 33 for 248 yards and three touchdowns with no turnovers, which pushes the Fernando Mendoza timeline back again. And Klint Kubiak's second-half adjustments in his old building have NFL.com calling him the early Coach of the Year frontrunner. For each one, Scott says what would change his mind. He also covers the schedule caveat (Miami and the Chargers are a combined 0-6), the 2021 comparison, Brock Bowers' 10-catch, 116-yard return, Jack Bech's broken forearm and trip to IR, and why Treydan Stukes' concussion status matters so much this week. The Chiefs preview: Patrick Mahomes is 13-2 against the Raiders, Kenneth Walker III gives Kansas City a real run game, and Vegas has the Chiefs favored by around 5.5. Scott looks at whether Rob Leonard should blitz or make Mahomes be patient, why Bowers against the linebackers is the key on offense, and why Mike Washington Jr. deserves closer to 10 carries. Raiders 3-0: 19 Unanswered Points Sink the Saints
2026/09/28
The Raiders are 3-0. Down two scores in the Superdome, Las Vegas scored 19 unanswered points to beat the New Orleans Saints 35-27, and the defense shut the door in the fourth quarter for the third straight week. Scott Gulbransen and Murf from Raiders Fan Radio break it down: Brock Bowers going over 100 yards in his return, Kirk Cousins throwing three touchdowns with no interceptions (22 of 33, 248 yards), Mike Washington Jr.'s 36-yard touchdown run and whether he should get more carries next to Ashton Jeanty, Maxx Crosby's late fumble recovery, and why the Raiders need Treydan Stukes back before the Kansas City Chiefs come to Allegiant Stadium. Raider Nation callers Tariq, Pastor Mike and Misha jump in with their game balls, their gripes and their Chiefs predictions. BONUS: Raiders at Saints: Kubiak's Homecoming and a Defense Nobody's Talking About
2026/09/26
The 2-0 Las Vegas Raiders head to the Superdome as 3.5-point underdogs. The New Orleans Saints team they're facing just came back from 14-3 down to beat the Ravens in Baltimore. On this week's radio show from 101.5 KDWN, Scott Gulbransen starts with Brock Bowers back at practice after his meniscus trim. Klint Kubiak called it day-to-day the whole way, and he was right. Scott explains why Bowers' snap share on Sunday will tell you more than the injury report. He also isn't backing off his wide receiver take, even with Kirk Cousins throwing six touchdowns in two games. Segment two is the Raiders defense. It's first in the NFL in EPA per play and first against the run, with eight sacks from six different players and a takeaway on about one of every five drives. The linebackers are the best group since 2002, and missed tackles are way down. Tyler Shough doesn't turn the ball over, though, so the pass rush has to carry this one. With Kelvin Banks on IR, Maxx Crosby should see plenty of the Saints' backup left tackle. Then Kubiak goes back to New Orleans, where he called plays in 2024. Scott argues both sides of who has the edge. He takes calls from Raider Rob in San Diego and Michelle in the East Bay, then closes with his score prediction. Brock Bowers Returns as 2-0 Raiders Head to New Orleans
2026/09/24
The Las Vegas Raiders are 2-0 after a 26-14 win over the Chargers at SoFi Stadium, the franchise's first win in LA with fans in the building since leaving in 2021. Now Brock Bowers is back at practice ahead of Sunday's Week 3 road game against the New Orleans Saints. Scott Gulbransen breaks down what Bowers' return from a meniscus trim means for Kirk Cousins and the offense, and why his snap count will tell you more than the injury report. Scott also answers the pushback on his wide receiver take. Tre Tucker had his best game of the season and Cody White scored on both of his catches, but the Raiders sit 18th in passing yards and the room ranked 31st in the preseason. One good Sunday doesn't fix the depth problem. The story nobody's talking about is Rob Leonard's defense. It's first in the NFL in EPA per play, tied for the league lead with eight sacks, hasn't allowed a fourth-quarter point and forces a turnover on about one of every five opponent drives. Kwity Paye, Nakobe Dean and Quay Walker are a big reason why. Then the Saints preview. Tyler Shough is completing 79% of his passes without turning it over, Chris Olave is a problem, and Alvin Kamara and Travis Etienne give New Orleans a real two-back rotation. The weak spot is a thin Saints secondary, and that's where Bowers comes in. Scott makes his pick with the Saints favored by 3.5. In the Raider Nation Court of Public Opinion: Michelle from the East Bay on how fast the new coaching staff has made a difference John from New Jersey on Klint Kubiak's missed challenge on the Justin Herbert fumble Jacob from Fresno on Maxx Crosby's impact beyond the box score and the offensive line's step back Sponsored by Kalshi. Raiders 2-0: Dean's Forced Fumble, Cousins' Big Day
2026/09/21
Raiders 26, Chargers 14. Vegas is 2-0 for the first time since 2021, and it's their first win at SoFi Stadium since then. Scott Gulbransen is joined by Murf from Raiders Fan Radio, calling in from a pool deck in Florida, to sort through a game that got messy in the middle before the Raiders closed it out. Klint Kubiak becomes the first Raiders head coach to start 2-0 since Bill Callahan, and Kirk Cousins becomes the first Raiders quarterback with three touchdown passes in each of the first two weeks since Kenny Stabler did it in 1976. Cousins wasn't perfect, and the offensive line gave him plenty of reason to scramble, but he found Tez Tucker deep twice and got two touchdowns out of practice-squad call-up Cody White. The defense is the real story. Nakobe Dean's forced fumble on Omari Hampton flipped the game, and rookie fifth-rounder Hezekiah Masses picked off two passes filling in for an injured Darien Porter. Scott and Murph make the case that this linebacking corps, with Dean, Quay Walker and Maxx Crosby, might be the best the Raiders have had since their last Super Bowl run in 2002. In this episode: the offensive line's rough day and why DJ Glaze struggled specifically, Ashton Jeanty's three drops and 48 rushing yards, a play Scott thinks should've been overturned from the booth, John Spytek's draft classes starting to show up on the field, and live viewer call-ins with Tarek in Texas, Rossi in Australia and Pastor Mike in Boise, Idaho. Scott closes with a look ahead to next week's road trip to New Orleans. Tonight's Super Chats go straight to the One Nation Foundation, supporting Raiders charities including Raider Dad.
