In today's North Country at Work story, we meet a woman who helps high schoolers start their careers off on the right foot. Also: Governor Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James spoke this morning after Hochul appointed James as a special prosecutor in the alleged gang rape case at Cornell University.

One state authority, the New York Power Authority, now has a majority ownership stake in a huge solar project slated for Canton. Also: The two candidates for New York’s 21st Congressional District may not face off in a debate before the election.
9/30/26: NY-21 shifts to the left, a tiny bit

(Sep 30, 2026) A highly regarded election forecaster has changed its rating of the NY-21 race from "solid" to "likely" Republican for the first time in several years. The Cook Political Report says Democrats have a path to victory, even if it's narrow. We hear from an analyst about how the publication rates races for Congress.

But there hasn't been one in the North Country's congressional district in six years, and so far, no debates between Anthony Constantino and Blake Gendebien are locked in before Election Day. Also: The single largest remaining set piece from “Star Trek: The Original Series” now has a permanent home in the Adirondacks.

(Sep 17, 2026) City of Plattsburgh residents will vote this November on whether to revise the city's charter. Members of the commission that reviewed the document say it's important for determining how the city can move forward. Also: Massena's town board voted against a 6-month moratorium on a controversial data center.
9/16/26: The latest twist in the Howitzer canon saga

(Sep 16, 2026) A man's plan to test howitzer cannons in Essex County was going to a special legal hearing. But the judge sent the project back to the Adirondack Park Agency for a final decision. Also: A top Republican is standing with New York sheriffs as they challenge a new state law prohibiting collaboration with ICE.
9/15/26: Conquering the Adk Rail Trail with cerebral palsy
2026/09/15
(Sep 15, 2026) The Rail Trail connecting Tupper Lake and Lake Placid has become one of the Adirondacks' biggest attractions. A Saranac Lake man with cerebral palsy is on a journey to walk all 34 miles of it. Also: Half of New York’s households are now eligible to receive discounts on their monthly utility bills thanks to an expansion of the state’s energy affordability program.
9/14/26: A new troll is in Tupper Lake for good
2026/09/14
(Sep 14, 2026) The trolls at the Wild Center have drawn two million visitors and counting. There's good news: a new troll is coming and making a permanent home in the Adirondacks. Also: The ferry connecting Cape Vincent to Wolfe Island in Canada is planned to be purchased and restored.
