Why is repentance so hard?
2026/10/08
Christians often talk about being a “committed believer”, but how about being a “committed repenter”?! Given how much the call to repentance featured in the preaching of Jesus and the early church, why is it that we so often recoil at the very thought of “having to” repent? In this episode, Vince helps us unpack the what, why, and how of repentance in a way that challenges our cultural assumptions about both the potential and the power of repentance to transform our relationships.  ------ We’re so glad you joined us for Ask Away. If you have a question that needs answering, we’d love to hear it. Is forgiveness still a virtue?
2026/09/10
The more offensive and offended we become as a culture, the more out of reach forgiveness seems to be. Oftentimes, it is only once we’ve experienced forgiveness for ourselves that we find the motivation to want to forgive others—so where does that first forgiveness come from, and how can we pass it on? If you want to think more about this topic, join Vince and Jo for their conversation on this week’s episode of Ask Away.  ------ We’re so glad you joined us for Ask Away. If you have a question that needs answering, we’d love to hear it. Is the sinful woman in Luke 7 groveling her way to God?
2026/08/06
Do you ever feel like you’re spending so much time in Christian spaces and Christian activities, and yet somehow missing out on God Himself? Sometimes we can get so fixated on who we want God to be that we forget to ask Him to show us who He really is. Other times, we want the benefits of an authentic relationship with God without being real ourselves. And then there are the times when we’re too afraid to approach Him at all. In this episode of Ask Away, Jo unpacks a story from Luke 7 which speaks life to anyone who feels like they’re missing out on Jesus.  ------ We’re so glad you joined us for Ask Away. If you have a question that needs answering, we’d love to hear it. How can we navigate an easily offended and unforgiving culture?
2026/07/15
AAA report a stark increase in road rage. Revenge plots are dominating our movies screens. Family members are going “no contact”. In a culture where both offense and unforgiveness are on the rise, how can we respond in a way that doesn’t compound the offense? This week on Ask Away, Jo and Vince discuss whether we have to choose between love and truth, and what Jesus can teach us about how to engage people in a deeply divided culture. ------ We’re so glad you joined us for Ask Away. If you have a question that needs answering, we’d love to hear it. FINALS WEEK (PT 2)! Theological true or false?
2026/06/17
True or false? Christians spend very little time with God. Making plans is contrary to being led by the Holy Spirit. Effort is the opposite of grace. God the Father loves you as much as he loves Jesus. On this week’s episode of Ask Away, Vince and Jo grill each other on some of the most common assumptions people hold about Christianity, and whether they pass the truth test! ------ We’re so glad you joined us for Ask Away. If you have a question that needs answering, we’d love to hear it. FINALS WEEK! Theological true or false?
2026/06/04
True or false?   Scientific advancement makes it harder intellectually to have faith. Happiness is the opposite of depression. Any prayer is better than no prayer. Atheists should pray. God won’t give you more than you can bear. This week on Ask Away, Vince and Jo grill each other on some of the most common assumptions people hold about Christianity, and whether they actually pass the truth test! ------ We’re so glad you joined us for Ask Away. If you have a question that needs answering, we’d love to hear it. Is God Playing Hide and Seek? (Repost)
2026/05/06
If God wants to be known, why isn’t He more obvious? This week on Ask Away,  we're re-posting a conversation between Jo and Vince on a topic that most of us have struggled with at one point or another. As one listener eloquently framed the question: “Why isn’t God more clear in revealing Himself, in His motives, in His character, in His morality? If He wants to have a relationship with people and loves them, why doesn’t God reveal Himself more plainly or at least provide fewer barriers that need to be overcome to believe in Him?” ------ We’re so glad you joined us for Ask Away. If you have a question that needs answering, we’d love to hear it. Raising Kids: How does the gospel transform parenting?
2026/04/24
Oftentimes, the more advice we get on parenting, the more we feel like we’re failing our kids! We long for them to thrive, but what does thriving look like in this day and age? We want our kids to be successful, but successful at what?! This week on Ask Away, Vince and Jo share some of what they’ve been learning about raising kids, and about the Gospel-centered themes that emerge when we seek to approach parenting, whether in the immediate family or more broadly in the church, with the same heart that our Heavenly Father has for us.  ------ We’re so glad you joined us for Ask Away. If you have a question that needs answering, we’d love to hear it. If Jesus is God, why would God die?
2026/04/01
For those of us living in societies often characterized as “post-Christian”, the symbol of the cross occupies a strange place in our cultural landscape—so familiar that it typically fades into the background, and yet that familiarity has certainly bred contempt. So what are we to make of the cross of Jesus? Aside from being an architectural feature of a skyline, what does this symbol really stand for? With Easter approaching, this week on Ask Away we’re sharing a presentation Vince gave a few years ago on what the cross meant two millenia ago, and whether it still carries meaning today.    ------ We’re so glad you joined us for Ask Away. If you have a question that needs answering, we’d love to hear it. How can I become more loving?
2026/03/18
Do you ever walk away from a conversation feeling like you weren’t totally present with the person, or honest in the way that you engaged with them? Have you ever felt like there’s a mismatch between the love you wish you had for others and what’s actually in your heart? In this episode of Ask Away, Vince and Jo share a talk they recently gave on how to be more intentional with our conversations, and what to do when we get frustrated by our own unloving limitations. ------ We’re so glad you joined us for Ask Away. If you have a question that needs answering, we’d love to hear it. Abraham and Isaac: Does God condone child sacrifice?
2026/03/04
One of the most harrowing accounts in the Old Testament, this story from Genesis 22 raises all kinds of troubling questions for us: Does God condone child sacrifice? Does this story teach that it’s permissible for us to commit evil in the name of God? What about the impact on Isaac? And perhaps most relevant for us today: with texts such as this in the Bible, how can we trust that God is good and that he will be good to us?  ------ We’re so glad you joined us for Ask Away. If you have a question that needs answering, we’d love to hear it. Can Jesus help me choose a valentine?
2026/02/11
While we are always encountering new questions from college students, it is still the case that the topics of singleness, dating, and marriage come up in conversation more frequently than any other. So in honor of Valentine’s Day, this week Jo and Vince are re-posting a previous episode on how to engage in relationships in a way that reflects Jesus’ own approach to choosing us!  ------ We’re so glad you joined us for Ask Away. If you have a question that needs answering, we’d love to hear it. What does the Christian faith say about suicide?
2026/01/28
Some of us are hurting so much that living each day is a struggle. Others wake up every morning to the anguish of having lost a loved one to suicide. In either case, the question of what happens after death to those who have taken their lives is a deeply personal and painful question. This week on Ask Away, Jo and Vince discuss the hope of the Christian faith for those who are carrying these heavy burdens. They also encourage those of you who are feeling overwhelmed that you don’t have to go through this on your own—professional help is available and can really make a difference, as can the support of your community and your local church. If you’re in the US and you need immediate help, you can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline ( 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline ). You can also text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line at https://www.crisistextline.org. When is someone ready to receive an invitation to follow Christ?
2026/01/14
Do you have people in your life who have heard about your faith and have engaged with you on spiritual topics, yet you are longing for them to actually respond to the Gospel? But when is the right time to extend an invitation to them to follow Christ? Are they ready? What if they aren’t? Should the invitation be the culmination of a process of sharing the faith or the very starting point for it? And shouldn’t an invitation be experienced as an honor and a gift, even if someone feels they need to RSVP “no”?    Vince considers these and other related questions on this week’s Ask Away, as he invites each of us to make it a New Year’s resolution to be more invitational with the Gospel in 2026!   ------ We’re so glad you joined us for Ask Away. If you have a question that needs answering, we’d love to hear it. Peace on earth—really?
2025/12/18
These days, any measure of peace feels hard to come by. Whether we’re at war with one another or at war with ourselves, we are always conflicted over one thing or another. Under such conditions, the angelic announcement of “peace on earth” seems hopelessly naive. But what if peace were more than an empty promise or a futile proposition? This Christmas, the Ask Away podcast considers the implications of this question: What if peace came to us as an actual person?  ------ We’re so glad you joined us for Ask Away. If you have a question that needs answering, we’d love to hear it.
