God “hears” the cries of the people of Israel and has decided now is the time to act to liberate them. God appears to Moses in a burning bush to send his as God’s ambassador. YHWH sends Moses in YHWH’s own name - “I AM.” 🌐 Learn more! https://longviewnazarene.org 👥 Connect with us! http://shorturl.at/wqdxm 🙏 Submit a prayer request! It has been 400 years since Jacob and his family settled in Goshen in the land of Egypt.  Over time they have gone from honored guests in the land to slaves under the rule of a regime who did not know (or care) about the history of Joseph.  Now the threat to the people of God comes not from internal dissent, but from the hand of Pharaoh who orders the murder of the male children in Egypt. Two unlikely heroes, the midwives Sarah and Puah fear YHWH more than Pharaoh and refuse to carry out the murderous decrees. 🌐 Learn more! https://longviewnazarene.org 👥 Connect with us! http://shorturl.at/wqdxm 🙏 Submit a prayer request! Instead of confronting them in wrath and judgment, Joseph relents from his anger and is reconciled to his brothers. He refuses to hold their sins against them but rather chooses to acknowledge the way God was able to redeem their wicked actions for God’s own plans and purposes. 🌐 Learn more! https://longviewnazarene.org 👥 Connect with us! http://shorturl.at/wqdxm 🙏 Submit a prayer request! Joseph is sold into slavery. I think the focus here will be on God’s provision for Joseph and faithfulness to God’s covenant with Abraham THROUGH Joseph (and unlikely choice). 🌐 Learn more! https://longviewnazarene.org 👥 Connect with us! http://shorturl.at/wqdxm 🙏 Submit a prayer request! God continues faithfulness to Jacob and as he returns home to an uncertain fate (how will Esau receive him???) he strives with the unarmed “man” (is it God?) until he receives a blessing. 🌐 Learn more! https://longviewnazarene.org 👥 Connect with us! http://shorturl.at/wqdxm 🙏 Submit a prayer request! Leah was “married off” to Jacob without her consent and as a “trick” to him. She was the wife he didn’t want and didn’t love. Jacob gets a taste of his own medicine, but at the expense of Leah, Laban’s eldest daughter. While Jacob does not love her, God “sees” her (see v. 31) and blesses her. She is the mother of the sons from Whom Israel’s priests are chosen and from whom Israel’s kings are chosen and ultimately the tribe from which Israel’s messiah emerges. Unloved by her husband, yet mother of Levi and Judah - the carriers of God’s covenant activity in history. 🌐 Learn more! https://longviewnazarene.org 👥 Connect with us! http://shorturl.at/wqdxm 🙏 Submit a prayer request! Jacob has scammed his brother one too many times and is forced to flee from the wrath of Esau to the city of his ancestors: Haran. Alone and on the run, he spends the night under the stars with a stone for a pillow. There in that place, God appears and reiterates God's covenant promises to Jacob. 🌐 Learn more! https://longviewnazarene.org 👥 Connect with us! http://shorturl.at/wqdxm 🙏 Submit a prayer request! As Abraham and Sarah near death, God continues to direct the path of God’s people as the promise moves from Abraham and Sarah to Isaac…will the promise of a progeny move to a new generation?  God again directs and provides and we find faith in unexpected places. 🌐 Learn more! https://longviewnazarene.org 👥 Connect with us! http://shorturl.at/wqdxm 🙏 Submit a prayer request! Sometimes the promise fulfilled does not seem like good news to everyone. This is certainly the case for Hagar and Ishmael. Through no fault of their own, Hagar and Ishmael are disinherited from the family of Abraham. But while the act of Abraham and Sarah, is cruel, God sees the plight of the mother and Child. God rescues them and blesses them. 🌐 Learn more! https://longviewnazarene.org 👥 Connect with us! http://shorturl.at/wqdxm 🙏 Submit a prayer request! God reiterates the covenant promise to Abraham but promises that the child will come through Sarai.  Being older than child-bearing age AND having thus far been unsuccessful, Sarai laughs at the prospect.  The angel calls her on it and asks, “Is anything too wonderful for the Lord?” 🌐 Learn more! https://longviewnazarene.org 👥 Connect with us! http://shorturl.at/wqdxm 🙏 Submit a prayer request! This is the initial call to Abraham and the promises of the covenant made to him. The “purpose” of God’s election of Israel and covenanting with Abraham as God’s desire to bless the nations. 🌐 Learn more! https://longviewnazarene.org 👥 Connect with us! http://shorturl.at/wqdxm 🙏 Submit a prayer request!
