Pairs Comparison - Part 2
2026/10/26
Last week, we started at a section of the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus starting comparisons between two things. These comparisons were largely given to illustrate the need for His audience to make choices related to His teaching. First, He compared two gates and two ways as an illustration for entrance into the Kingdom. Second, Jesus was comparing False and True Prophets. We will continue with that pairs comparison this morning and look at an example that ties both of these first two pairs comparisons together.
Pairs Comparison - Part 1
2026/10/19
As a way to illustrate the truth that pursuit of God is a worthwhile endeavor, Jesus now focuses on the choices each member of His audience must make in their day to day lives. Will they respond to Jesus' teaching and receive a positive outcome or consequence OR will they reject Jesus' teaching and receive a negative outcome or consequence?
Pursuing the Lord and Loving Others - Matthew 7:6-12 | Sermon on the Mount | Week 16
2026/10/12
Last week, we finished a section of the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus had been calling out five areas of hypocrisy in 1st century Jewish life. As we move forward in the passage this morning, we will see an emphasis on relational pursuit of the Lord and others. This would have been amazing news to His disciples. The life of a disciples must always start with vertical pursuit of the Lord and then should spill horizontally on to others.
Specks and Planks - Matthew 6:34-7:5 | Sermon on the Mount | Week 15
2026/10/04
We've been in a section of the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus has been calling out hypocrisy in multiple areas. This morning, we will start with Jesus' concluding statement concerning worry and then we will move on to the fifth and final area of hypocrisy. This area of hypocrisy involves the improper judgment of others.
Living without Worry and Anxiety - Matthew 6:26-33 | Sermon on the Mount Week 14
2026/09/27
Jesus moves into a section of the Sermon on the Mount concerning worry and anxiety. He tells His audience not to worry about what they eat, drink, or wear and He gives reasons why. Ultimately, worry and anxiety do not contribute to the solution of any problem we face in life. To illustrate and explain how God wants to care and provide for us, Jesus uses a couple of examples from nature. And, then, to close this section, He gives something BETTER for us to focus our mental energy on.
Why You Should Waste Your Life
2026/09/20
If you were going to spend the rest of your life doing one thing, what would you want that one thing to be? What would immediately become most important to you? Today, guest speaker Cody Hughes teaches about what the world might view as "Wasting your life", but brings our focus to what should be most important in our lives.
Eyes, Hands, and Heart - Matthew 6:21-25 | Sermon on the Mount Week 13
2026/09/13
This morning we are going to continue with the theme of Jesus calling out hypocrisy in the area of money. Jesus will continue to show how a person's focus on earthly treasures can cause a negative spiritual impact at multiple levels.
Even More Hypocrisy - Matthew 6:16-20 | Sermon on the Mount Week 12
2026/09/06
This morning we are going to continue with the major theme of this section of the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus is calling out religious hypocrisy. He is taking on three of the most prominent religious activities of the 1st century Jew: (1) Charitable Giving [v1-4], (2) Prayer [v5-v13], and (3) Fasting [v16-v18]. In light of the topic of hypocrisy, Jesus will now exhort, encourage, illustrate and challenge His disciples to focus on building wealth where it really matters, and where the investment lasts - heaven!
Hypocrisy. What to do when the Truth is NOT Practicedmp4
2026/08/30
Today, Pastor Joe Guggenberger explores the topic of hypocrisy in the church. How should we deal with hypocrites, and how can we see hypocrisy in ourselves?
Conditional Forgiveness - Matthew 6:14-16a | Sermon on the Mount Week 11
2026/08/23
This morning we are going to get back to the major theme of this portion of the Sermon on the Mount, which is Jesus identifying and calling out religious hypocrisy. In this message, we will look at His calling out of hypocritical forgiveness and hypocritical fasting.
A Model Prayer - Matthew 6:9-13 | Sermon on the Mount Week 10
2026/08/16
This morning we are going to be looking at what has been commonly called the "Lord’s Prayer” although a better name for this section could be “A Model Prayer.” This is really the Lord teaching the disciples to pray, specifically His first century audience who were anticipating the nearness of the Kingdom in the presence of the King.
Look At Me - Matthew 6:1-8 | Sermon on the Mount Week 9
2026/08/09
This morning we are going to move into the next sub-section of the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus is going to call out five ”hypocritical behaviors” that were occurring amongst the religious Jews of the culture. These were behaviors that were performed for others to see. Jesus instructs His audience, and by application, us, that we are living for an Audience of One! Why I am doing what I am doing should be a constant question of self-evaluation in any ministry, service, or good work I engage in.
How To Treat Our Enemies - Matthew 5:39-48
2026/08/02
This morning we conclude a larger section of the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus describes what TRUE righteousness looks like from God’s perspective. This was very important to clarify since the religious leaders of Jesus' day misinterpreted this AND their misinterpretations had become the mainstream thought of Judaism. These misinterpretations were costing Jews potential entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven. The final two areas of clarification involved personal retaliation and love for one’s enemies.
Jesus' Teaching on Anger & Lust - Matthew 5:22-30 | Sermon on The Mount Week 6
2026/07/19
This morning we continue a larger section of the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus describes what TRUE righteousness looks like from God’s perspective. This was very important to clarify since the religious leaders of Jesus' day misinterpreted this AND their misinterpretations had become the mainstream thought of Judaism. These misinterpretations were costing Jews potential entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven. The first two areas of clarification involved the sixth and seventh commandments of murder and adultery.
