Legends of Saints and Martyrs_sample

The complete audiobook is available for purchase at Audible.com: https://n9.cl/3k5j9 Legends of Saints and Martyrs By Joseph McCabe Narrated by Oberon Michaels In Legends of Saints and Martyrs, Joseph McCabe turns a sharp historical eye on one of Christianity’s most cherished traditions: the heroic age of persecution. With biting wit and relentless skepticism, he examines the legends of early saints and martyrs, arguing that many were not preserved by history but manufactured by pious imagination, clerical invention, and institutional need. Moving from apocryphal gospels to medieval hagiography, from Nero’s Rome to the Bollandist scholars, McCabe distinguishes genuine persecution from later exaggeration. The result is a provocative study of faith, fraud, memory, and myth-making—a challenge to the stories through which religions traditionally obtain their validation.

The complete audiobook is available for purchase at Audible.com: https://n9.cl/y6977c The Revolt Against Religion By Joseph McCabe Narrated by Oberon Michaels In The Revolt Against Religion, celebrated rationalist Joseph McCabe examines one of the defining intellectual movements of the modern age: humanity’s growing rejection of traditional religious authority. In this survey of history from the Renaissance and the Enlightenment through the rise of modern science, biblical criticism, philosophy, and social reform, McCabe argues that the decline of orthodox belief is not a passing trend but the culmination of centuries of intellectual and cultural change. Written in McCabe’s characteristically lucid and provocative style, this classic work challenges long-held assumptions about faith, reason, and the progress of civilization. Whether admired as a pioneering defense of freethought or debated as a forceful critique of religion, The Revolt Against Religion remains a fascinating window into one of the twentieth century’s most influential secular voices.

Poems, Chiefly Lyrical_sample

The complete audiobook is available for purchase at Audible.com: https://n9.cl/9fke98 Poems, Chiefly Lyrical By Alfred, Lord Tennyson Narrated by Denis Daly Poems, Chiefly Lyrical, issued in 1830, is the first major published collection by Tennyson. It addresses many of the themes and stylistic signatures that would define his career and help establish him as one of the major figures of Victorian poetry. The volume gathers a range of short lyric poems, meditations, and narrative pieces, which are unified by mood, rather than plot: longing, memory, mortality, nature, and the tension between ideal beauty and earthly loss. Typically, the poems are highly musical, rich in imagery, and focus on the expression of emotional states rather than direct argument. This collection shows Tennyson in embryo: the melancholy, the mythic imagination, the preoccupation with time and loss, and the almost hypnotic musicality that would later mature in major works like In Memoriam A.H.H. and Idylls of the King. It is a gallery of emotional and imaginative experiments, many of which are among his most enduring early achievements.

The complete audiobook is available for purchase at Audible.com: https://n9.cl/nb0ys The Man Who Tried to Impress the Man Who Wasn't There A Ride on the Ontological Rollercoaster By Otto Handley Narrated by Victoria Stead-Wynne This is the story of Evan Evanescent, a quality assessor, who becomes mired in a surrealistic web of corporate psychology, metaphysical guilt, and the suffocating nature of internalised standards. He develops an obsession with an enigmatic poem which leads him to perceive a silent, invisible judge haunting his workplace and home. This evaluative absence eventually destabilises Evan’s identity, resulting in a bizarre ontological criminal trial where he is convicted for the "disappearance" of this non-existent entity. Following his incarceration, Evan transitions from a victim of institutional pressure into a cynical master of systems, learning to manipulate the very frameworks that once oppressed him.

The Fall of Hyperion_sample
2026/08/13
The complete audiobook is available for purchase at Audible.com: https://n9.cl/cvvi49 The Fall of Hyperion: A Dream By John Keats Read by Denis Daly The Fall of Hyperion is an unfinished visionary epic, which was begun in 1819 as a revision of Keat’s earlier poem Hyperion. Framed as a dream-vision, it follows a poet-narrator who wanders into a mysterious garden, eats and drinks from a sacred feast, and finds himself transported to a decaying temple. There he meets the veiled goddess Moneta, priestess of fallen memory, who forces him to confront his own worth as a poet before revealing to him - through visions within the dream - the story of the Titans' overthrow by the Olympian gods. Where the original Hyperion focused on the fallen Titans themselves, the reworked version wraps their tragedy inside a deeper meditation on suffering, mortality, and what it means to be a poet rather than a mere dreamer. Written in the shadow of Keats's declining health, it's often read as his most searching statement on the relationship between imagination and human pain. Although it remained unfinished, it is among the most powerful fragments in classic English poetry.
21st_twentyone_doughty

Twenty-One by Mulford Doughty This slim volume of poetry was first published around 1917. The poet is very obscure, and little is known about his life. The twenty-one poems are written in a late-Romantic / early-Modern American idiom, and reflect themes characteristically treated by poets of the Edwardian era: war, youth, mortality, and emotional dislocation. Doughty appears to belong to a transitional literary generation. He is no radical modernist, like Pound or Eliot but is not enamoured of the comfortable sentimentality of late Victorian verse. This collection was first published by Librivox on 4th August, 2026.

Come Out of the Kitchen! by Alice Duer Miller Read by Margaret Espaillat Alice Duer Miller's 1916 romantic comedy Come Out of the Kitchen! follows wealthy Northern businessman Burton Crane, who rents a grand, run-down Southern mansion for six weeks on the unusual condition that he retain the four eccentric servants already living on the property. As Crane hosts a group of high-society guests, the household dynamics quickly turn chaotic due to the staff's unusually refined, witty, and headstrong behaviour - especially that of the charming, surprisingly talented young cook, Jane-Ellen. As romantic attraction blossoms between Crane and Jane-Ellen despite social barriers, a series of humorous misunderstandings ultimately reveals that the "servants" are actually the impoverished aristocratic siblings who own the estate, resulting in a lighthearted satire on class, privilege, and love.
