Welsh Labour and Radical Federalism
2024/02/20
In the run up to the Senedd & Holyrood elections, the Labour Party has started work on a number of projects aimed at remaking the way the UK works to provide a sustainable third way between independence and the status quo. The First Minister calls this 'home rule' and others are calling it 'Radical Federalism'. This discussion chaired by Professor Laura McAllister follows a proposal by the Radical Federalism project for a 'People's Convention' in Wales to lay the groundwork for a renegotiation of the union. Laura is joined by Mick Antoniw MS, Beth Winter MP, Prof. Kevin Morgan and Prof. James Mitchell. To discuss the permanence (or not) of this change of allegiance and the societal, economic, and electoral factors that underpinned it, we are joined by Dr Thomas Prosser of Cardiff University, Phil Collins of The Draft and The New Statesman, and Paula Surridge of the University of Bristol and Deputy Director of the UK in a Changing Europe project. You follow the latest from our guests on Twitter: Dr Thomas Prosser: twitter.com/prossertj Phillip Collins: twitter.com/PhilipJCollins1 Paula Surridge: twitter.com/p_surridge And, of course, us: twitter.com/golau_podcast If you’re enjoying Golau please subscribe, rate, and review in your podcast player of choice.
