While you may have loved Hereditary and Midsommar, Beau is Afraid was certainly the litmus test for fans of horror master Ari Aster. Is a movie about anxiety, paranoia, guilt, absurdity, and possibly even neurodivergence enough to justify one of A24’s largest blank checks ever? That’s for you to decide. While some of us loved and others did not, there’s no denying the hilarious comedy and stellar production design in this bizarre movie. So make sure you have a bottle of water and a can of paint close by as we join Beau on his outrageous adventure, plus discuss those old D.A.R.E. ads, the bygone era of Moviefone, how Millennials always seem to get blamed for everything, and so much more with returning guests Brandi Dewberry and Jenn Paulemon. Beau is Afraid stars Joaquin Phoenix, Patti Lupone, Amy Ryan, Nathan Lane, Kylie Rogers, Denis Ménochet, Parker Posey, Zoe Lister-Jones, Armen Nahapetian, Julia Antonelli, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Richard Kind, Hayley Squires, and Bradley Fisher. Directed by Ari Aster. If you enjoy what we do please subscribe to our show and leave us a rating & some feedback as well! While Sinners and One Battle After Another were duking it all awards season earlier this year, a lot of the other films up for Best Picture and multiple other categories got left out of the conversation; Hamnet was unfortunately one of them. Beautifully tragic performances, impeccable direction, and a score that would make even the toughest man weep, this movie is so much more than “emotional manipulation”. If you only gave it the once over or put off seeing it, this is your sign to marvel at the performances of Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal, and Jacobi Jupe as well as Chloé Zhao’s incredible vision of the lives of young Agnes and Will. In our episode we break down the film, plus discuss Oscar “villains”, the original aura farming fashion accessory, Nathan’s pitch for an adult entertainment parody of Backrooms, and so much more. Hamnet stars Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal, Emily Watson, Jacobi Jupe, Noah Jupe, and Joe Alwyn. Directed by Chloé Zhao. Time travel, destiny, and predetermination – it’s all on display in 2014’s Predestination. A small film with big ideas riding on the coattails of Primer, Inception, and a lot of other time related movies that came before it, there’s so much to unpack in what essentially is two movies attached at the hip to one another. So grab your favorite bottle of scotch and get ready for twist after twist as we try to unravel the mystery of who The Unmarried Mother is, plus topics like our…unique rules for time travel, Australian currency exchange rates, boob-shaped bells, and so much more await in our “last” episode of the show. We are Forrest Gump, we carry the flame! Predestination stars Christopher Kirby, Noah Taylor, Sarah Snook, Ethan Hawke, and Madeleine West. Directed by Michael & Peter Spierig. We have just one question for you: do you wanna party? If so, then you’re in for a treat because this week on the show we’re getting down and dirty with maybe the most punk rock version of all zombie flicks with 1985’s The Return of the Living Dead. A kick-ass soundtrack, fun characters, and outrageous special effects have cemented this one as a classic, and it’s still engaging over 40 years later. So join us in the cemetery as we tear into the movie, plus our thoughts on the upcoming Street Fighter reboot, Dave Mustaine’s only good lyric, one of the funniest movie titles of all time, and so much more with returning guest James Stacey. 10 years ago today, we began our journey building a playlist of films with cliffhanger, downbeat, and upsetting endings with the caveat of discovering a silver lining for each and every one. In this anniversary special, we’re looking back at the podcast’s journey to make it to this incredible milestone, revisiting some unforgettable moments, and celebrating everything in our show’s legacy. We hope you enjoy this enormous episode. Thank you so much for all of your support over the past decade. We look forward to many more years of covering some of cinema’s bleakest endings. We’re taking a turn back into Korean cinema this week as we’re reviewing an absolute classic that’s still in IMDb’s Top 200 and Letterboxd’s Top 50 greatest films of all time. Memories of Murder isn’t a conventional murder mystery; it’s light and funny when it can be while also weaving a web of uncertainty and hopelessness, something only the great Bong Joon ho can accomplish. So slip into your Nice (not Nike) sneakers and look us in the eyes as we break open this film, plus discussions on how the ‘80s weren’t as glamorous as the movies try to make them out to be, the ineptitude of police detectives, an overabundance of flying jump kicks, and more. Get 1 month of Diamond Lining tier status free for the month of August 2026 as a token of our appreciation by using this link. Expires August 31st, 2026 at 11:59 PM EST. Memories of Murder stars Song Kang-Ho, Kim Sang-kyung, Kim Roe-ha, Song Jae-ho, Park Hae-Il, and Go Seo-hee. Directed by Bong Joon ho. Do you remember 2006’s The Breed? No? That’s okay, no one else does either. We’re uncovering a nothing of a movie to discuss, and it’s no wonder this thing has been lost to time. In 96 minutes of runtime, there’s only about 12 worth seeing. With that being said, our episode is jam packed, so strap in as we tear into this barely-a-movie flick, plus discuss the recent sequel (we couldn’t believe it either), the goofy as hell RC-3 Seabee, Pat Sajak’s greatest impression, Michelle Rodriguez as a Firestarter, DoesTheCatDie.com, and so much more. The Breed (2006) stars Michelle Rodriguez, Oliver Hudson, Taryn Manning, Eric Lively, and Hill Harper. Directed by Nicholas Mastandrea. We just passed America’s 250th birthday, so what better way to celebrate our nation’s history than by discussing a film about a veteran with PTSD who was chewed up, spit out, and left for dead by his own country? You’d be forgiven for thinking First Blood is just like any other Rambo film, but this one has a sincere message, and it utilizes a lot of restraint in telling it. So make yourself more presentable with a shave and a haircut as you listen to us discuss the movie, plus Richard Crenna’s campy performance, the upcoming prequel, and of course, Nathan’s incredible Sly Stallone impression. All of that and so much more with John Wooliscroft from The Cinema Psychos Show. You can find The Cinema Psychos Show here, and John’s YouTube channel here. First Blood stars Sylvester Stallone, Richard Crenna, and Brian Dennehy. Directed by Ted Kotcheff. If you enjoy what we do please subscribe to our show and leave us a rating & some feedback as well! Our mothers told us never to do this, but if we had to describe 1986’s The Hitcher in one word, we would use the word “mean”. Somehow this one manages to be very violent and simultaneously incredibly restrained. Rutger Hauer gives one of the most menacing performances in this very straightforward thriller that rivals Steven Spielberg’s Duel in its relentlessness. So light up a cigarette and make sure to buckle up too as we break down this cult classic, plus discuss what the Hitcher and penguins have in common, the one unfortunate film in C. Thomas Howell’s filmography, and of course Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel’s infamous scathing review. 1989’s The War of the Roses is undeniably a classic. The 2025 remake The Roses, however, is probably not destined for the same fate. Even though the cast shines, the story is lacking a lot of the…well, war of the Roses. It’s worth exactly one watch (preferably on a plane) and not much more. That being said, our episode certainly isn’t a drag, so sign a commitment (not a contract) to listen along as we discuss the film. Topics of discussion also include Mallie’s new fashion accessory, great bleed out spots, celebrity cookbooks, and cucking lemons. All of that and more with special guest David Arnold of the queer horror podcast Fear Coded. You can check out Fear Coded here. You can also check out the Glitterjaw Queer Podcast Collective here. The Roses stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Olivia Colman, Andy Samberg, Kate McKinnon, and Allison Janney. Directed by Jay Roach. It was a franchise that critics turned their noses up at and movie snobs rolled their eyes at, but Twilight proved all of them wrong at the box office. When it comes to the movie itself, however, they may have been proven right. A Mormon’s tale of yearning and romance is actually a cautionary tale of gaslighting and abusive behavior. If you loved this one as a teen, you may be surprised at how it plays nearly twenty years later. So grab a beer (regardless of the time of day) and hold on tight, spider monkeys, cause we’re breaking (dawn) this one open as we discuss the film, plus the ghost truck of Forks, Taylor Lautner’s best bit, and Mallie’s live reaction to watching the final fight scene in Breaking Dawn - Part 2 for the first time. All of that and so much more with returning betrothed guests Priscilla Hendry and Ashley Simmons. Twilight stars Nikki Reed, Kellan Lutz, Billy Burke, Ashley Greene, Robert Pattinson, Jackson Rathbone, and Kristen Stewart. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke. While prom season may be in the rearview, we’re not done celebrating because this week on the show we’re talking none other than the absolutely maniacal Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II. Make no mistake: while this one may sound like another typical cheesy ‘80s slasher, it is anything but. Amazing special effects, unhinged performances, and truly jaw-dropping lines of dialogue make it stand out above its peers. So shove those Duraflame logs under your lighter fluid dress and grab your Diet Pepsi as we discuss Mary Lou and all her antics. Plus, Nathan’s incredible Wal-Mart story, the definitive worst band, and of course Prom Bon Jovi’s classic hit “It’s Prom Night” all await you. We promise you won’t want to miss this one. Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II stars Michael Ironside, Wendy Lyon, Justin Louis, Lisa Schrage, and Richard Monette. Directed by Bruce Pittman. For over 25 years, Johnny Knoxville and his gang of misfits, maniacs, and masochists have entertained us all with their outrageous stunts and goofs. With the release of the new trailer Jackass: Best and Last, however, it feels like a swan song for the franchise even more than Jackass Forever was. Watch along with us on YouTube or simply listen to us watch the trailer and react to it. Jackass: Best and Last stars Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Jason "Wee Man" Acuña, Preston Lacy, Dave England, "Danger Ehren" McGhehey, Sean "Poopies" McInerney, Zach Holmes, Jasper Dolphin, Rachel Wolfson and Compston "Dark Shark" Wilson. Conspiracy theories appear to be on the rise these past few years as seemingly everything is a contrived plot by the rich and powerful to trick the general public into…something. Bugonia explores that idea to the extreme while still maintaining Yorgos Lanthimos’s dark comedic sensibilities and sharp direction. What happens when someone who’s deep in the rabbit hole decides to enact a plan to prove their theory by any means necessary? Turns out it doesn’t go quite as expected. So put on your tinfoil hats and inject those nondescript chemicals (and our episode) directly into your veins as we discuss the movie, plus corporate apology tours (looking at you, Burger King), mailing live insects to your friends, the canon event that is Movie 43, and so much more. Bugonia stars Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, Alicia Silverstone, and J. Carmen Galindez Barrera. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos.
