This week's Everyday Business Leader celebrates Katie Stahlhut: Katie Stahlhut has the distinct honor of carrying on Ms. Beverly’s legacy of dance excellence. Ms. Beverly passed the torch after 55 years of ownership. Katie has been a part of Stage I Dance Academy since elementary school. Katie has a degree in Business Management from the Kelley School of Business, is a graduate of Leadership Johnson County’s class of 2018 and a member of Aspire Johnson County. Her passion is providing a nurturing environment for children to develop as not only dancers, but young ladies and gentlemen. Her favorite aspect of dance is giving back to the community, which is why God led her to start a nonprofit, Dance Every Journey. Dance Every Journey provides free dance programming for senior citizens and veterans. Between Stage I Dance Academy and Dance Every Journey, we're now honored to serve ages 15 months- 103 years of age. This week's Everyday Business Leader celebrates Rose Myers: I never aspired to be a martial artist, nor to own and operate a martial arts school, but God had other plans that I followed willingly. *MY* plan was earning an Environmental Engineering degree from the University of Dayton and working to protect the state of Indiana working at IDEM (Indy’s EPA). Then I was told I had a hormonal disease that prevented me from conceiving children. But God is greater than science and had bigger plans for me. After giving birth, I retired from my engineering job for this single chance of parenting my precious child. Backing up a bit, my senior year in college someone was raped by my campus house, driving me to seek training from my internship co-worker at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. After college I relocated to Indiana, entered the ATA, and began formal training. I earned my First Degree Black Belt and entered the Certified Instructor Training program in December of 1999. I earned my Instructor Certification and signed my first contract to teach in 2002, not knowing I was pregnant. After my daughter was born, I opened a taekwondo program within the Greenwood Community Center, so I could enjoy her during the day, and her dad could enjoy her at night while I taught. Many students and 3 locations later, my husband retired from his engineering career and came to work for Pilsung. ATA requires the rank of 6 th Degree Black belt and completion of an extensive program to earn the title of Master Instructor. My “covid project” was passing one of the most unique tests in ATA history and completing the year-long Mastership process in 2021. That year I was honored locally as the Center Grove Icon of the year. Last year I celebrated 25 years in the ATA and 20 years running my own program. Pilsung is the Korean word for “Personal Victory,” that sense of accomplishment after doing something worthy. I chose the name as a reminder of my goal for every student. Yes, we teach traditional martial arts, but they’re really a vehicle to deliver the truly important life skills. I have the honor an privilege of growing students in discipline, honor, respect, self-esteem, belief, and leadership. We work hard to have a positive impact on our community through their Black Belt community projects, as well as partnering with valuable organizations within the community. Dr. Wade is an associate professor at Danville Area Community College in the liberal arts division. He teaches courses in sociology and psychology and has more than twelve years of experience as a mental health professional, community advocate, corporate trainer, and educational consultant. In 2022, Dr. Wade created the Connection Café at his college to educate and facilitate community dialogue about mental health challenges to break the stigma that causes many people to not seek help. Today's Everyday Business Leader is Beau Jackson, I am a financial professional with a passion for adventure and a love for my family. My wife, Jennifer, the Head Coach for Franklin College’s Women’s Soccer team, and our two children, Atlas (3) and Skylar (2), bring joy and fulfillment to my life. Alongside them, our 15-year-old black lab, Olie, completes our happy home. Throughout my life, I have accomplished various feats. On a whim, I moved to Colorado’s San Luis Valley for a year to work on a honeybee farm. I’ve run across the clouds in the Leadville Ultra and summited Mt Rainier, having had the opportunity to watch glass grass grow within its crater. I hike, backpack, climb, swim, sand/snowboard, and most often wander. I love to run, especially on dirt trails. I’ve excelled at almost every sport I’ve played…soccer being the most revered. It’s global. And I believe life can be simplified down to what happens between four lines, two goals and a black and white ball. I believe in teamwork. When I’m not in my suit I wear superhero T’s regularly…and often believe I am one. I love people. When asked what the most important attributes a person can have, I start with the ability to listen, share, and learn. In that order. I’m a teacher, student, and philosopher whose favorite video game is TLoZ. In addition to my pursuits, I am a financial professional running a small firm that covers two-thirds of Indiana. Our firm specializes in retirement planning, life insurance, investments, and other financial services. I am extremely proud of our team within Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial. When the founding director moved to Florida, I had the honor and privilege of stepping in and leading the staff and volunteers to serve our community. We are all called to serve and help our neighbors, but it is an honor to be part of a community that cares deeply and loves intently. Many do not realize the needs that exist in our community – so awareness is key. But once you are aware of a need – you HAVE to respond. Especially for Christians – we are called to love. I am married and have six beautiful daughters and six amazing grandchildren. I love being a mamaw. I take my role in their lives seriously. Whether we are making cookies, working outside, or cuddling on the couch – it’s amazing. My husband and I continue to look for ways to love our family well. What do I want the most from The Refuge? I would love for our community to be aware of the needs and to come alongside us (or any other organization) and partner with us to help those around us. We ultimately want to serve our community the best way possible with the means that God provides through individuals, churches, and businesses.
