Someone Has to Drive - Graeme Reavley on Taking Aid to Ukraine
2026/10/09
This week I got to meet and chat with Graeme Reavley, a retired vet from Northumberland. Russia’s war against Ukraine began with the invasion of Crimea in 2014, escalating into a full scale invasion in February 2022. Since then, Graeme has made repeated journeys across Europe, driving donated vehicles and delivering supplies to people affected by the war. What began as a single trip has become a long-term commitment, supported by volunteers and donations from communities across the Scottish Borders and North East England. I wanted to find out what makes someone keep going back, what he’s witnessed along the way and what those journeys have taught him about the people living through this war.  You can donate to help the project or contact Graeme Reavley via ba4uk.orgRecorded for Documentally.net
A Wandering Existence
2026/09/02
This audio first appeared on my weekly newsletter here: https://documentally.substack.com/p/a-wandering-existence-2160While walking the dog  I spotted a man coming along the road pulling a four-wheeled cart loaded with what looked like everything he owned.Obviously, I had to stop and find out what was going on.His name is Adam Richards and he was just about to cross the border from Scotland back into England, part way through a 2,433-mile walk that started in Manchester. So far his journey has taken him through the Lake District, along the Scottish coast, through Ayr, Paisley, Stirling and Edinburgh.Adam says he’s doing it for his kids. He wants to show them that money needn't be your main focus in life. Sometimes it’s enough to decide to do something, to follow your dreams, believe in yourself and just go.He describes himself as technically houseless rather than homeless. While living on about £400 a month and documenting the journey online, everything he needs is in the cart he pulls behind him. After our paths crossed, I ran home, grabbed a mic shield and caught up with him before he crossed the border. This podcast is our conversation. Adam can be found online in various places as @Rant_N_Roam Thanks for listening.
Flashback to 2010... before streaming was easier than piracy.

For more context listen to the intro here... https://bsky.app/profile/documental.ly/post/3movn3nanuk2z More on Documentally.net This is an archive BBC Radio discussion from 2010 featuring Me, Christian Payne, aka Documentally debating the Digital Economy Bill with Victoria Derbyshire. Topics include file sharing, copyright, internet freedom, digital entrepreneurship and the future of media. Looking back from today, I feel it offers an interesting snapshot of how the UK wrestled with the challenges of a rapidly changing internet. A year later Spotify would find it's feet in the US and everything changed.

This was recorded for documentally.net but uploaded to AudioBoom in order to test mobile upload. It failed due to the image being too large and then after resizing it failed due to bandwidth being limited. So is generally a bit of a faff.
VRP7 into Audioboom browser test
2025/02/28
This was recorded for www.documentally.net I used the app VRP7 to record the audio and then uploaded the audio as well as a photo using the Audioboom browser. The first attempt failed when I recorded straight into the browser using the browser based recording interface on AudioBoom. All data was lost with an accidental thumb swipe.
