Why Do We Love Being Scared? Therapists React to Horror Movies
2026/10/16
Welcome back to the second episode of the new season of Through the Eyes of a Therapist! It's spooky season, so we turned our office into a haunted therapy room. We're reacting to scenes from some of the scariest horror movies out there, The Shining, Get Out, Hereditary, Midsommar, and Smile, and unpacking them through the lens of a therapist. (Fair warning: one of us is NOT a horror fan, so there were some screams.)
We also talk about why some of us love being scared, fear of the unknown, fight, flight, freeze, and fawn, what psychological safety really looks like (and how NOT to do therapy), grief and family dynamics, emotional attunement, the uncanny valley, and how watching horror can actually be a little bit of exposure therapy in disguise. Plus, we rate each movie on our very own Creepy Meter!
Thanks for watching! We hope you enjoy the episode. If you do, please subscribe and listen to the podcast here on YouTube or through your favorite podcast platform.

Why Aren’t Women Taken Seriously in Healthcare?
2026/10/02
Hello! We hope everyone is having a mentally healthy day! Welcome back to the first episode of the new season of Through the Eyes of a Therapist! Today, we're talking about women's health.
With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we're tackling subjects like not getting the care we need, feeling dismissed by healthcare providers, and, of course, that dreaded statement from the doctor: “It's probably just anxiety.” We also talk about advocating for yourself in healthcare, medical gaslighting, women's experiences with the healthcare system, PCOS, and the difficult balance between taking your health concerns seriously and managing health anxiety. Thanks for watching! We hope you enjoy the episode.

Are the Parents Alright? The Impact of Emotionally Immature Parents
2026/07/02
In this episode, we discuss emotionally immature parents, what emotional maturity really looks like, and how the way we were raised can continue to affect us well into adulthood.
We talk about healthy emotional expression, whether parents should cry in front of their children, setting boundaries with family, and how emotionally immature parenting can shape our relationships, self-worth, and ability to regulate our emotions. We also explore how recognizing these patterns is the first step toward breaking the cycle and building healthier relationships.
If you've ever wondered why certain family dynamics still affect you as an adult, struggled to set boundaries with loved ones, or are trying to become a more emotionally mature parent yourself, this episode is for you.

Ain't No Rest for the Empathetic - The Burnout Trap
2026/06/17
In this episode, we talk about burnout, why it happens, and why some of the people most likely to experience it are the ones who genuinely care about others.
We discuss people-pleasing, compassion fatigue, setting boundaries, and the pressure to always be available. We also talk about why so many of us tie our self-worth to being helpful, productive, or needed—and what happens when that mindset catches up with us.
If you've ever felt guilty for resting, struggled to say no, or found yourself running on empty while trying to take care of everyone else, this episode is for you.
