Choosing Jesus is Choosing Joy
2026/09/20
What does it actually mean to choose joy? Not the kind of joy that depends on good weather, smooth traffic, or things going our way, but the kind that holds firm even in the hardest seasons of life. In Philippians 2:12-18, Paul writes from prison, facing execution, and still calls us to rejoice. That alone should stop us in our tracks. The passage draws a sharp distinction between working FOR our salvation, which is an exhausting and ultimately futile effort to earn God's favor, and working OUT our salvation, which is the ongoing, Spirit-empowered process of becoming more like Jesus. The difference is everything. One leads to anxiety and striving. The other leads to joy. God works in us so that we can work out what he has already placed within us. That is not a burden; it is an invitation. And when we accept it, we begin to discover the purpose he has written over our lives, a purpose that produces the kind of joy that does not evaporate when circumstances get difficult.
The Joy of Humility
2026/09/13
In Philippians 2, we encounter one of the most breathtaking portraits of Jesus in all of Scripture. The God of the universe, enthroned in heaven and receiving endless praise from angels, looked at our broken condition and chose to come down. Not as a king in a palace, but as a baby in a feeding trough. Not to be served, but to serve. And ultimately, not to preserve his own comfort, but to die the most shameful death imaginable so that we could be brought back to God. This is the humility we are called to imitate. It is not weakness. It is not self-erasure. It is the deliberate, costly choice to lower ourselves so that others can be lifted. The passage challenges us to examine where pride might be quietly blocking the flow of the Spirit in our lives, whether in our finances, our relationships, our need for recognition, or our obsession with how others perceive us. Humility, it turns out, is not the enemy of joy. It is the very path that leads us there.
To Live is Christ
2026/09/06
This message takes us into the heart of the book of Philippians, where we find Paul writing from a Roman prison cell, uncertain whether he will live or die. Yet rather than despair, he radiates a joy that defies his circumstances. Through Paul's example, we are challenged to examine what we are really chasing in life. Are we running after a 'runner's high' -- a short-lasting state of happiness -- or are we pursuing something eternal? The distinction between happiness and joy becomes crystal clear when we see Paul worshiping God at midnight in chains, and when we encounter the story of 26 Christians in 16th-century Japan who refused to renounce their faith even at the cost of their lives. The message is both simple and profound: when Jesus is our prize, nothing -- not chains, not suffering, not even death itself -- can steal our joy. This is an invitation for all of us to ask the hard question: what is our prize, and are we ready to choose a joy that lasts forever?

Power Over Sin and Shame

What if the greatest miracle we could ever experience is not the parting of a sea or the healing of a body, but the moment we discover that God has been running toward us all along? This message takes us deep into the parable found in Luke 15, where a father's response to a returning son dismantles everything we assume about how God sees us in our worst moments. We tend to rehearse our confessions, plan our penance, and brace for disappointment. But the story reveals something far more radical: a father who spots his child from a distance and sprints toward him before a single word of apology is spoken. The message draws a crucial distinction between guilt and shame, two things we often treat as the same but are fundamentally different. Guilt says we did something wrong. Shame says we are something wrong. And that difference changes everything about how we relate to God, to others, and to ourselves. If we have ever felt like we were tolerated by God rather than wanted, this is the message that begins to heal that wound.
Power over Disease

What happens when we bring our deepest desperation to God and refuse to let the crowd keep us from reaching Him? This message takes us into two remarkable healing accounts from Mark chapter 5, where Jesus is on His way to rescue a dying girl when a woman who has suffered for twelve years pushes through the crowd and touches the edge of His garment. Immediately, she is made whole. The power of this moment is not just in the miracle itself, but in what Jesus says to her afterward, calling her daughter and declaring that her faith has healed her. We are reminded that God is never too busy to stop, turn around, and see us in the middle of a crowd. No matter how long we have been suffering, no matter how much we have spent trying to find answers elsewhere, the invitation remains open to lean in rather than pull away. The message also opens with a firsthand account of a man whose liver was medically documented as nearly destroyed, only to receive a clean bill of health following prayer. These stories together form a compelling case that God still moves in healing power today, and that our faith, even imperfect and trembling, positions us to receive what only He can give.

Power Over Fear
2026/08/02
What happens when the storm hits and we feel like we are going under? In this message, we explore one of the most vivid and relatable stories in all of Scripture, the moment when Jesus and his disciples found themselves caught in a violent squall on the Sea of Galilee. The disciples had seen miracles. They had walked with Jesus. And yet when the waves came crashing in and danger was real, fear took over. Jesus, asleep in the boat, woke and spoke calm into the chaos with a single word. But the question he turned and asked his disciples is the same one he asks us today: where is your faith? This message unpacks the powerful inverse relationship between fear and faith, reminding us that storms do not mean God has abandoned us. Having Jesus in the boat does not exempt us from difficulty, but it completely changes how we navigate it. We are invited to examine our own knee-jerk responses when life gets hard. Do we fight, flee, or reach for faith? The answer shapes everything about how we experience the storms that are simply a part of life in this world.

Submission
2026/07/19
Submission isn’t a popular topic, especially in an independence-driven culture, but it’s essential for a vibrant walk with Jesus.
In this message from our Summer Glow Up series, Pastor Van unpacks what the Bible teaches about submission to God, spiritual leaders, civic authorities, and one another.
You’ll learn:
Why all authority ultimately comes from God
The difference between healthy submission and abusive authority
How an independent spirit can block God’s blessing
The blessings that come with a submitted life: safety, wisdom, and favor
If you want a faith that’s truly alive, not just Sunday-only religion, this message will help you surrender more fully to God and His ways.
Worship
2026/07/12
Drawing from Romans 12:1, we discover that true worship means offering our entire bodies as living sacrifices—our careers, finances, relationships, dreams, and disappointments. The first mention of worship in Scripture comes not from a temple choir but from Abraham on Mount Moriah, where he demonstrated that worship is fundamentally about a surrendered heart. Using Hebrew words like yadah (extending hands in surrender), barak (kneeling in humility), and todah (thanksgiving before the breakthrough), we learn that our physical postures matter because they reflect what our hearts are learning to believe. The transformative truth emerges: what we worship, we become like. When we fix our eyes on Jesus rather than on our circumstances or preferences, we're not just feeling something momentarily—we're being formed into someone who looks more like Christ. This isn't about earning God's love through religious performance; it's about positioning ourselves to experience His transforming presence in every area of our lives.
Hospitality
2026/06/28
This message challenges us to rethink what hospitality truly means in the biblical sense. While our culture often reduces hospitality to aesthetic surroundings, nice candles, and clean homes, Scripture calls us to something far deeper: creating spaces where people feel welcomed, seen, and can encounter Jesus. The story of Zacchaeus beautifully illustrates this radical hospitality. Here was a man despised by his community, a tax collector who exploited his own people, yet Jesus called him by name and invited himself to his home. Jesus didn't wait for Zacchaeus to clean up his act first. He offered relationship before repentance, demonstrating that true hospitality is a heart posture, not a physical circumstance. The Greek word used for hospitality in 1 Peter literally means loving strangers, loving those different from us. This includes the neighbor with the opposing political yard sign, the barista who messed up our order, even the rival sports fan. When we practice this kind of costly hospitality, we become hotspots connecting others to the love of God. The transformation in Zacchaeus's life reminds us that our willingness to welcome others, even when inconvenient, could be the very thing Jesus uses to change someone's eternity.
Guidance
2026/06/21
Learning to hear God's voice transforms everything about our faith journey. This powerful message introduces us to five practical lighthouses that help us discern when God is speaking: commanding scripture, compelling spirit, counsel of the saints, common sense, and circumstantial signs. The beauty of this framework is that we're not left guessing whether we've truly heard from God. Like ship captains navigating into a narrow harbor by lining up three lighthouses, we gain confidence when all five elements align. The foundation begins with God's infallible Word, His logos that never changes, paired with the rhema word—that specific, timely message the Holy Spirit speaks into our particular situation. We're reminded that God is a speaking God who created by speaking, and His enemy's first attack was to make us doubt whether we can truly hear Him. The testimony of transformation we hear shows how deepening our relationship with God changes not just our spiritual life but every relationship we have. When we learn to worship with hands raised and hearts open, when we pursue intimacy with our Heavenly Father, the overflow touches our families in profound ways. This isn't about mystical experiences beyond our reach; it's about practical, daily communion with a God who desperately wants to guide His children through every decision, from buying a car to choosing a spouse to navigating career changes.
