Direct Sales - 5 Advantages
2026/09/30
Running a countertop shop is hard enough without giving someone else control over how you run it.
In this episode of The Fab Lab Podcast, Aaron breaks down five major advantages of developing a direct-sales strategy and building a sales system that reaches customers who value what you do.
Direct sales gives you greater control over:
Schedule — Stop letting someone else’s priorities become your emergencies.
Process — Sell customers on the way your company does business.
Pricing — Communicate your value and create opportunities for better margins.
Expectations — Establish clear expectations before they become customer-service problems.
Communication — Shorten the communication loop between the customer and your team.
Direct sales isn’t simply about cutting out the middleman. It’s about gaining greater control over how your business operates.

Sealing the Deal & Adding Value (Contract Creation)
2026/09/16
Your customer said yes. Now you create the contract, email it over, and wait for a signature—right?
That could be a huge missed opportunity.
In this episode of The FAB LAB Podcast, Aaron explains why the contract should be presented, not just sent, and how the contract meeting can become another valuable part of your sales process.
We cover three opportunities:
Reduce unmet expectations by thoroughly reviewing the written scope of work.
Get face-to-face again, either in person or over Zoom, to maintain focused communication and clarify questions.
Add value—and dollars by reviewing upgrades and options that can improve the customer's finished project and your bottom line.

A System For Getting to YES!!!
2026/09/09
Following Up on Quotes: Give Them the Opportunity to Say Yes
I hated following up on quotes. It felt pushy, uncomfortable, and completely at odds with my personality—until I stopped treating follow-up as a personality trait and turned it into a system.
In this episode of The Fab Lab Podcast, we break down a simple, repeatable approach to quote follow-up:
Create a system: Follow-up isn't about hard closes or manipulation. It's about systematically giving a qualified customer the opportunity to say yes.
Make the first call: The next business day, simply confirm they received the quote you promised to send. It's practical, professional, and low-pressure.
Determine your sequence: Decide in advance how often you'll call, email, and follow up—and tailor that frequency to your target customer's buying process.
A homeowner and a remodeling contractor don't buy the same way, so your follow-up shouldn't look the same either.
The goal isn't to chase customers. It's to make sure every qualified customer has the opportunity to move forward.

Killer Quotes = Closed Sales
2026/09/03
The quote isn't just the price at the end of your sales process. It's part of the sales presentation.
In this episode, we cover three principles of a killer quote:
1. Understandability — Make it clear what the customer is buying, what's included, and what options they have. Remember: we speak countertop; Mrs. Jones doesn't.
2. Professionalism — Your quote should reinforce the trust and competency you established during the sales presentation. We also discuss how sponsor ActionFlow SPRING can help create a consistent, professional quoting process.
3. Timing — Don't just promise a quote. Promise a time—and keep the promise. Getting your quote out quickly and exactly when you said you would is an incredibly simple way to differentiate.
Clear. Professional. On time.

7 Steps to a Killer Sales Presentation
2026/08/26
A great sales presentation shouldn’t be improvised. It should be purposeful, documented, scripted, and repeatable.
In this episode of The Fab Lab Podcast, Aaron breaks down seven steps to building a sales presentation that differentiates your company and demonstrates why you're the better choice.
The Seven Steps
Tailor it to your target customer – Start with a qualified prospect and demonstrate that you understand their needs better than the competition.
Control the environment – Present in the customer’s home or your showroom where distractions are minimized and impact is maximized.
Cover process AND product – Show customers both how you do the work and what makes the finished product better.
Focus on 4–8 key points – Don't overwhelm them. Choose the strongest points that truly differentiate your company.
Build a question into every point – Use questions to engage the customer rather than simply lecturing them.
Use open-ended questions – Get customers thinking about problems and risks they may never have considered.
Compare yourself to the industry average – You don't need to attack competitors. Simply show how your standards exceed common industry practices.

Killer Sales Presentation = More Sales!
2026/08/12
Most countertop companies simply measure, quote, and hope to win the job. A killer sales presentation does much more.
In this episode, Aaron breaks down the three essentials of an effective sales presentation:
Build Trust – Create confidence and connection from the start.
Differentiate Your Company – Clearly communicate why your process is different from the average fabricator.
Demonstrate Competency – Use questions, samples, and proven systems to show customers they can trust your team.
Learn how a repeatable, question-based presentation helps you close more sales, command higher prices, and create a better customer experience.

Sales Presentation 101
2026/08/05
Most countertop companies think the sales presentation is about discussing colors, measurements, and price. It's not. A great presentation is about giving customers confidence that they're making the right decision.
In this episode, we cover three essentials of every successful sales presentation:
Build Trust – Create genuine connection and help customers feel understood.
Differentiate Yourself – Show why your company is different from every other quote they're collecting.
Demonstrate Competency – Give customers confidence that your team has the experience and systems to deliver exactly what you promise.
Master these three elements, and you'll close more sales without relying on high-pressure tactics.

How to Say No to a Job… and the One Exception
2026/07/15
Most fabricators think every lead deserves a quote. I don't.
In this episode, I share why learning to say "no" to the wrong jobs can reduce stress, improve close rates, and create a healthier business.
In this episode:
The story from a Cosentino event in San Francisco that changed the way I think about qualifying customers.
Why it's okay to walk away from prospects who aren't a good fit.
The importance of requiring an in-home or showroom presentation.
How to identify customers who are fixated on price or square-foot pricing.
A respectful way to refer those jobs to another fabricator.
The one exception: when slower seasons justify a different approach.
Next Episode:
We'll walk through the sales presentation itself—how to educate customers, communicate your process, explain why you charge more, and demonstrate the value that separates you from the competition.

Million Dollar Script - Qualifying Customers
2026/07/08
How much time is your team spending quoting jobs that were never yours to win?
In this episode, I share a story from 2011 that changed the way we approached retail sales and led to the development of a simple qualifying process that saves time, improves close rates, and helps your team focus on the right customers.
In this episode:
Why qualifying is about finding highly aligned customers—not turning people away.
The difference between transactional and relational buyers.
The two purposes of a qualifying script:
Identify customers who fit your value proposition.
Schedule a presentation, not sell over the phone.
Three of the twelve qualifying questions every countertop shop should ask.
Why role-playing your script enables anyone on your team to confidently schedule appointments.
Free Resource: Download the complete 12-question qualifying script discussed in this episode.

Daily Dollar Demand Part 3: From Theory to Implementation
2026/06/17
In this final episode of the Daily Dollar Demand series, Aaron shares how to move from understanding the concept to actually implementing it in your business.
In This Episode:
Start with one job — Apply Daily Dollar Demand from quote to schedule and build momentum through small wins.
Make the number visible — Create a scoreboard by putting Daily Dollar Demand on job files, work orders, and schedules.
Integrate it into the business — Use Daily Dollar Demand throughout estimating, sales, scheduling, production, and installation.
You'll also hear lessons from Jack Stack's The Great Game of Business and why visible numbers help teams stay focused and engaged.
