What does it take to obey God when fear tells us to stay on the sidelines? In Joshua 1:7–9, God’s call to be strong and very courageous rests on the assurance of his presence and the reliability of his word. This sermon explores how that same confidence equips us to live on mission for Christ—holding fast to Scripture, refusing compromise, speaking truth, and letting God’s word shape our hearts and actions. Our strength rests in his power; our courage grows as we trust his promises enough to take the next step.

In Joshua 1:2–6, God commissions Joshua to lead Israel into the land promised to Abraham, affirming that his purposes extend beyond our limited perspective and that our faithfulness today has a place in his eternal plan. While Israel was called to possess physical territory, the church is commissioned to carry the gospel into a world held captive by darkness, making disciples of all nations. This mission requires us to recognize that our enemy is spiritual and that our greatest strength is our access to Jesus Christ. Just as God assured Joshua of his presence, we can move forward with strength and courage, trusting Christ for both our salvation and our ministry.

Ruth 1:1-8 Being steadfastly minded is important in our spiritual walk. It is that process of settling our minds in moving forward with who God is making us to be. Today we will look at Ruth to learn how to do this biblically.

After walking through the Gospel of John together, we have watched Jesus turn water into wine, give sight to the blind, raise the dead, lay down His life, and rise again. Now, as John brings his account to a close, he leaves us with one final assertion: “We know that his testimony is true.” John did not set out to write a religious fable or merely preserve the philosophy of Jesus. He wrote as an eyewitness giving testimony to what he had seen and heard. And after everything we have witnessed through his Gospel—the testimony, the miracles, the cross, the empty tomb, and the extraordinary claims of Christ—we are left with a question that cannot be avoided: What will we do with Jesus Christ? In this sermon we close our journey through the Gospel of John by looking back at the evidence John has given us and considering whether what we have seen has actually changed us. We came. We saw. Now—do we believe?

What do we do when our worst failure seems to define us? In John 21, Peter comes face-to-face with the Christ he denied—and discovers that grace doesn’t merely forgive his past; it restores his purpose. Jesus calls Peter out of shame, back into the mission, and ultimately toward a path of discipleship that will cost him everything. In this message, we’ll see how our love for Christ produces a love for others, why following Jesus requires us to embrace our own calling rather than compare it with someone else’s, and how a man who once denied Christ to save his life would eventually give his life to glorify God. Peter’s story reminds us that our failures do not have to determine how we finish—grace gives us a future, and the call remains the same: “Follow me.”

Thomas believed when he saw the risen Christ—but Jesus pronounced a blessing upon those who would believe without seeing. In John 20–21, we discover that biblical faith is not wishful thinking, blind optimism, or confidence in ourselves. It is resting the full weight of our convictions upon what God has said. And when that faith moves from belief to obedience, it produces fruitfulness that human effort alone never could. In this message, we consider what faith is, where it begins, and how it manifests in the life of a disciple. If skepticism has made your faith cautious, your obedience hesitant, or your expectations small, John’s Gospel gives us a compelling invitation: believe the Word of Christ, cast the net, and discover the abundance of true faith.

In John 20, the disciples have heard the news of the resurrection, yet they are still hiding behind closed doors—afraid, uncertain, and unsure of what comes next. Jesus meets them there with a message of peace, a renewed sense of purpose, and a call to believe. But Thomas reminds us how easily skepticism can keep us from participating in what God is doing. This message challenges us to consider whether fear, disappointment, and unanswered questions have quietly become excuses for disengagement—and calls us to find our peace in the risen Christ, embrace His purpose, and be not faithless, but believing.
