In this second part of our Jesus Matters series, we explore Jesus in his apostolic expression, modelling to us that love moves. The apostle is the one who is sent. Apostles are visionary pioneers who see beyond the familiar and take the church into new spaces and places. Their passion is to see the mission of Jesus extended. Jesus refuses to settle. Even when miracles are happening and lives are being transformed, he keeps moving. He moves towards new places, new people and new opportunities to share the good news. Love doesn’t stay where it is comfortable. Love moves. Wherever you are on your journey of faith, we’re so glad you’re here. We kick off our new series, The Jesus Effect: what happens when ordinary people become more like Jesus. This is the greatest commandment, and the evidence of spiritual maturity is not how much we know, but how we are growing in love. As Paul puts it in Ephesians 4:16, the whole body is “healthy and growing and full of love.” But this doesn’t happen by accident. Paul reminds us that we all have a part to play. And, to different degrees, we can all express these five functions, just as we see them perfectly modelled in Jesus. Each is an expression of love: Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Shepherds (Pastors) and Teachers. Wherever you are on your journey of faith, we’re so glad you’re here. This is the final part in our series, Peace Maker.. As this series comes to an end, we remember that peacemaking is both a calling and a command. It should flow through every part of our lives and impact every person and every place we encounter: our families, our neighbourhoods, our workplaces, the places we shop, our communities and our country, even the way we engage on social media. Wherever you are on your journey of faith, we’re so glad you’re here. This is the second part in our series, Peace Maker.. It’s striking how often Jesus’ disciples find themselves in conflict with one another. Even with the perfectly loving and humble Son of God right there among them, their fallen humanity repeatedly gets in the way, drawing them into arguments and rivalry, particularly over the question of who is the greatest. The need to be ‘right’, 'best' and ‘first’ will always conflict with the work of a peacemaker. Jesus invites them to choose a radically different way of thinking and living, one marked by faithful humble service. Wherever you are on your journey of faith, we’re so glad you’re here. This is the first part in our new series, Peace Maker - Cross the divide. In one of Jesus’ earliest peacemaking missions, we see him challenge the norms by crossing geographical, cultural, religious, moral and gender divides to reach one Samaritan woman. One woman who would go on to reach an entire village. Through this powerful encounter, we discover the four heart postures and practices of a peacemaker: empathy, humility, curiosity and tenacity.
