It was really only when Jonah was going down deeper and was about to hit rock bottom, that he then prayed to the LORD his God. Why wasn’t he praying during the storm, or for the perishing sailors? Even in this distressful situation, and as low as one can go, and even from the depths of Hell or Sheol, God hears our prayer and answers them. To watch today’s video, just click on this link! Today we started a new series in the Book of Jonah. Jonah was one of the minor prophets, and yet his story certainly is big, and he certainly foreshadows Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. But a key part of this story is Jonah’s unwillingness to go on the mission that the LORD wanted him to go on, which was to speak to people in the capital city of the Assyrian Empire. During a period of 40 days between the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, and His Ascension, He met several times with His disciples. In this section, Jesus met with the eleven, who He had instructed to meet Him at a particular mountain in Galilee. When they saw Him they worshipped Him, although some took a while to grasp the reality of the situation. Then Jesus gave the eleven key instructions about how they should fulfill their mission, which we refer to as The Great Commission. This would involve the disciples going to ALL THE NATIONS, and MAKING DISCIPLES, and BAPTISING THEM, with the knowledge that Jesus would be always with them, overseeing the work! Whilst the women who had encountered the risen Lord were on their way to tell Jesus’ disciples what they had experienced, and to instruct them to go to Galilee, where they would meet the Lord, some of the soldiers who had been guarding the tomb, had a different story to tell. Which of the two accounts will you believe? To watch the video from today on Youtube, just click on this link! From examples such as Joseph in Genesis, and seeing how God Providentially wordked behind the scenes, to Paul’s exhortation in Romans 8:28, where he wrote, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” (ESV), we can learn to trust in God ourselves. Whatever circumstances you may be going through, believe that there is an Invisible Hand at work in your life, if indeed you are one who loves God and are called according to His purposes! As we start into this final chapter of Matthew’s Gospel, we will split this into 3 parts. This first section tells us that Jesus arose from the grave or tomb on The First Day of The Week, which just so happens to be the day after the Sabbath, which would be equal to our Sunday. This should do away with the concept that Christians should worship God on The Sabbath. They can if they wish, but there is no New Testament command to do so. However, the early church built upon the idea of the day of the Lord’s resurrection, as they met on the first day of the week, otherwise known as the Lord’s day (See Rev.1:10; 1 Cor.16:2). The rest of the section describes what happened after the Lord arose, and what happened to the guarding soldiers, and to the women who had come to the tomb, and how the angel rolled back the stone, and sent the women to confirm the Lord’s resurrection to the rest of the disciples. From Genesis and on through the Bible we have evidences of what God in His Omnipresence (and Omniscience, and Omnipotence) does in the lives of individuals and with all creation. First of all Eddie shared on how Jesus is the anchor of our souls, if we are in Christ. Then Nicky shared scriptures and gave examples of how it is possible to share your faith, even in a world that is often hostile to the Gospel. Some amazing things took place in the burial accounts of Jesus’ body. One outstanding thing was the way in which two formerly SECRET DISCIPLES of Jesus, Joseph of Aramathea and Nicodemus, stepped up to the plate and made their stand for Jesus by their actions. We discuss “the shroud of Turin”, only because a linen shroud was mention in the synoptic gospels. But we showed how there is more detail given in John’s account that would seriously bring into question the validity of the relic known as the shroud of Turin. The message of the Cross and what Jesus accomplished there is the central theme of the Bible and of all history. Today we covered Matthew’s version of Jesus’ death, and brought in all 7 of the sayings of Jesus from the cross, although Matthew only recorded on of them. The rest of the chapter attests to the miraculous events that also took place when Jesus died, and the effects those things had on the soldiers and the centurion who were watching over Jesus at the cross, and how they admitted, “Truly, this was The Son of God!” To watch the video from today’s service, just click on this link! Starting with an overview from the Old Testament on the relationship between God and Moses, then Joshua, and showing insights about The Tabernacle and the giving of the Old Testament, which is the Old Covenant, Eddie took us on a journey which led us to the New Testament, in which, from Hebrews 3-4 we see Jesus as The Mediator of The New Covenant. We also used a different recording format, and we hope you like what you see and we will work on constantly improving the sound quality. But we would like to get some “feedback” from any who might view the video, which is available on Youtube by clicking on this link!
