It is time for a big, brand new episode of Downey and Martez. This week’s main topic was obviously Rob Gronkowski’s retirement and the guys discussed it from all angles.  Trey started off by asking Len how surprised he was when the announcement came out. The conversation then went on to whether this is permanent or if Gronk could come back at some point during the season. Trey and Len also looked at what his legacy is and if he will go down as the greatest tight end to ever play in the NFL. The gents then moved onto the implications for the Buccaneers. Names like Jared Cook and Kyle Rudolph were discussed as replacements, but Trey voiced why he thinks Tampa Bay can just go into the season with what they already have. Plus Len added a potential pipe-dream replacement for Gronk. A new month is here and it is time for a new edition of Downey and Martez. Last week on the show the guys discussed the chances of Ndamukong Suh coming back to the Buccaneers. This week it appears we have our answer after the Bucs signed Akiem Hicks to a 1-year deal.  Trey and Len both expressed skepticism in terms of the signing and compared the injury histories of Hicks and Suh. Another week is in the books which means it is time for another edition of Downey and Martez. These are the first big practices in Tampa Bay that Todd Bowles is in charge of and the guys discussed how the Bucs will look different with the former Jets coach at the helm.  Len told you why he thinks Bowles gives Tampa to win the Super Bowl this year while Trey explained why he thought Tampa should’ve given Byron Leftwich the job.  The conversation then turned to Kyle Trask and what the Bucs internal goals should be for the second year player. It is hard to believe that the NFL Draft is already a week back in the rear view mirror, but that just means another new edition of Downey & Martez. The guys broke down all of the 2022 draft class for the Buccaneers on this show. Trey started the show by telling you why he thinks Luke Goedeke could start in 2022 while Len gave you someone on the roster who might have something to say about that. The guys were then very split on the prospects of Rachaad White and him being a contributor on this football team. Trey then explained why a 4th round pick will have the biggest impact on this year’s squad while Len zeroed in on a 5th rounder.
