From Superstition to Science: Unmasking the Myths of Tourette Syndrome
2025/12/10
Tourette Syndrome has been widely misunderstood throughout history and even today. During the Spanish Inquisition, individuals exhibiting Tourette-like behaviors were sometimes accused of being possessed by demons and tragically burned at the stake. In modern times, people may avoid seeking appropriate treatment because of psychiatric denial, hoping that prayer, positive thoughts, diet, or simply just growing out of it will improve the condition. Join Adrienne Hill as she talks about the sounds, movements and myths surrounding Tourette Syndrome. What is Orthodox Judaism? An Inside Look From Someone Who Left The Path

Judaism is one of the oldest extant religions, but due to a history of oppression and genocide, the most religious practitioners maintain an insular, almost secretive culture that the average person isn't privy to. Join us for a talk with poet and novelist Daniel Sokoloff, who was part of the ultra-orthodox Jewish communities of Brooklyn and Lakewood, and uses his own deconstruction to help others at Recovering from Religion. Masturbation, Porn, and Your Sex Life

Were you taught shame about masturbation? Were you taught purity culture? Did your church say looking at porn would make you a porn or sex addict? Were you diagnosed as a sex or porn addict? If so, who diagnosed you? Is it possible that mega church pastor, Mark Driscoll is gay? Does porn prevent you from finding your godly spouse? Are you cheating if you watch porn without your spouse? Reclaiming Your Life After Leaving Religion

Many questions come up after leaving authoritarianism in religion concerning how to think of yourself, relationships, and ethics. We’ll discuss how principles of humanism provide a path forward to celebrate your humanity rather than shame it. Sex and Gender Diversity in the Animal World
2025/11/26
Just as dominant societal forces enforced heteronormative, patriarchal, puritanical, and overly simplistic values on human sexuality, the sexual diversity of animals has been largely ignored or misinterpreted by biologists. But the field of biology has now begun overcoming this bias, and now it studies and describes the sexual diversity in animals – something which is normal and natural and leads to robust populations more adaptable to changes in their environment. In his presentation, Nathan H. Lents will discuss these topics, and describe the myriad ways that animal bodies are sexed, the varieties of “genders” within sexes, and other forms of sexual diversity among animals.
