Caramel, Crawfish, and the Chaos of Regional Dialect: Part 1
2026/10/01
Y'all reckon you know how to talk right? Shayne and Jay crack open Round 333 to argue about the way folks say things depending on which side of the Mason-Dixon they grew up on. From crawfish boils to caramel sundaes, this one gets linguistic, a little chaotic, and completely off the rails in the best way possible.
Topics include:
Lightning bugs vs. fireflies (the internet is wrong)Lawyer, oil, and aunt pronunciations that will rattle your inner grammar nerdCrawfish, crawdads, and mudbugs (and whether any of that is offensive)Caramel vs. carmel and the eternal mayonnaise debateRoute vs. root and the drive-through panic disorder Jay refuses to seek treatment for

Here's what our house elf, Artie (not Archie), says about this round:
Round 333 of Beer Thursday tackles one of the great American debates: does where you grow up change the way you talk? Spoiler alert — yes, and Shayne and Jay have opinions about it.
They work through 10 of 20 regional pronunciation differences, covering words like firefly vs. lightning bug, lawyer vs. lawyer (yeah, those sound different depending on who's talking), and caramel vs. carmel. They also take a deep dive into crawfish culture, crawdad controversies, and whether sucking the head is worth the effort.
Jay confesses to full-blown drive-through panic disorder. Shayne defends every syllable in mayonnaise. Both of them agree the internet is wrong about lightning bugs. The toast? A sharp little zinger about politics that Shayne wrote with his own two thumbs.
Part 2 is already waiting for Patrons. Everyone else gets it eventually. Maybe.

Satine, Selene, and the Swan: Beautiful Movie Characters We'd Rewatch For
2026/09/24
Lights, camera, attraction! Shayne and Jay are cracking open Round 332 and diving into the most beautiful characters ever put on screen. Not the actresses. Not their favorites. The *characters*. There's a difference, and these two are going to explain it while probably getting distracted by Ewan McGregor and Batman.
Elizabeth Swann, Satine, and the Bond girls who started it allJennifer Garner, Margot Robbie, and a few surprises nobody saw comingJulie Newmar at 92 still making jaws dropA Twilight confession, a Firefly deep cut, and a toast full of ships

Here's what our house elf, Artie (not Archie), says about this round:
Shayne surprised Jay with a topic neither of them fully prepared for, and it worked beautifully. The game? Name the *character*, not the actress. Harder than it sounds after a beer or two.
Keira Knightley's Elizabeth Swann from Pirates of the Caribbean kicked things off. Then Nicole Kidman as Satine in Moulin Rouge made everyone want to rewatch that film immediately. Jennifer Garner's Jenna Rink from 13 Going on 30 got bonus points for being Marvel canon (yes, really). Morena Baccarin's Inara Serra from Serenity, Kate Beckinsale as Selene from Underworld, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn all made the list with zero argument.
The Bond girls showed up strong. Honey Ryder from Dr. No. Tatiana Romanova from From Russia With Love. These two clearly did a Bond marathon and took notes.
Julie Newmar as Catwoman from the 1960s Batman TV show got a standing ovation, and Shayne threw in Barbara Gordon for good measure. Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange made the cut. Eva Green as Artemisia from 300: Rise of an Empire. Ashley Greene as Alice Cullen from Twilight (yes, Shayne admitted it). And Ana de Armas as Eve Maccaro from Ballerina closed the round out in style.
The toast? All about ships. Every kind.

Ah yes, getting older. That magical time of life when you wake up with mystery bruises, your knees file noise complaints, and your biggest victory of the day is finding a parking spot you can pull through. Here's what our house elf, Artie (not Archie), says about this round:
Welcome to Round 331, where Shayne and Jay tackle one of life's great unavoidable adventures: getting older. And spoiler alert, it's a lot louder than you'd expect.
**The body is doing things.**
Jay rocks himself out of chairs. His knee makes a scratchy sound on morning walks. Nobody knows where the bruises come from. Robin may or may not be involved. Shayne's ankles pop like bubble wrap every morning, and he's fully okay with that because it feels good.
**Sleep is a contact sport now.**
Both guys wake up with new mystery pains. Jay has perfected the art of negotiating with his bladder at 6:45 AM. Shayne wakes up no matter what time he went to bed. The body has opinions and it is sharing them loudly.
**Getting older hits different in public.**
Jay spotted a bunch of old people on his morning walk and thought they were cute. Then he realized he was one of them. He also checks the weather app constantly, parks near exits like Clark Griswold, and has strong feelings about Aldi.
**Nostalgia math is real.**
When Jay says "the other day," he means sometime in the last decade. Maybe. Retelling stories you've already told? Absolutely. Letting your friends retell theirs anyway? That's just good manners at this age.
**The toast that started it all:**
"Here's to drinking alone together."
Cheers to that.

The Final 18 [of the 15] Phrases We "Can't" Say Anymore!
2026/09/10
Beer Heart, we thought this list had 15 phrases. Turns out it has more entries than a CVS receipt. But we’re committed. Or maybe we should be committed. ~~~~~~~
Here's what our house elf, Artie (not Archie), says about this round:
In this round, Shayne and Jay tackle another batch of “forbidden” phrases, and wow… the list gets wilder than a cult leader with a Flavor Aid coupon.
They break down everything from “peanut gallery” to “blind leading the blind,” debate whether “homeless” is now “unhoused,” and discover that “lowest on the totem pole” apparently offends everyone except actual totem poles.
There’s a rant about Thanksgiving, a detour into the Dixie Chicks, a philosophical crisis about the word “crazy,” and a moment where both hosts forget what they were talking about mid‑sentence.
Classic Beer Thursday energy.
Plus: a toast involving cults, Capuchins, and the strong recommendation to not join anything requiring matching robes.

DC Universe, Part 2 [Redux]
2026/09/03
Cape on. Cowl crooked. Beer cracked open. Shayne and Jay are back for Part 2 of their DC movie deep dive, and they brought receipts. Justice League had a suspiciously familiar villain. Aquaman had an identity crisis. Shazam somehow surprised everybody. And Harley Quinn got the movie she absolutely deserved.
In this round:
Did Justice League just recycle the Infinity Stones plot and hope nobody noticed?Jay ranks Aquaman low, Shayne ranks him higher, and Jason Momoa doesn't care either wayShazam: the DC movie that doesn't feel like a DC movie (that's a compliment)Birds of Prey and the Emancipation of Everybody's OpinionsRound 329 [a Redux of round 46]

~~~~~~~
Here's what our house elf, Artie (not Archie), says about this round:
Shayne and Jay pick up right where they left off, still knee-deep in DC movies and still arguing about which ones actually hold up.
Justice League gets mixed but mostly decent marks. Joss Whedon stepped in for Zack Snyder and brought a lighter tone. Shayne noticed the villain's whole "collect three boxes for cosmic power" plan looked a little familiar. It rhymes with Bfinity Stones. Once Superman showed back up, Steppenwolf was done. And nobody was a fan of that voice filter.
Aquaman splits the guys right down the middle. Jay called it cheap, cheesy, and overhyped. Shayne liked it more and says Jason Momoa is the whole reason Aquaman works at all now. Also, Jango Fett himself, Temura Morrison, had a role. James Wan directed. It's better than Jay remembers.
Shazam gets real love. Zachary Levi (yes, that's Chuck from the TV show) plays a superhero who looks like he's actually having fun, and the guys agree the lighter tone made it stand out.
Birds of Prey lands strong. Margot Robbie owns Harley Quinn, Ewan McGregor makes a great villain, and the guys are genuinely impressed by DC's track record with strong female leads before Marvel got there.
They close out by looking ahead: Wonder Woman 1984, the Suicide Squad reboot, The Batman, Black Adam, the Flash's Flashpoint storyline, and the hope that Henry Cavill stays Superman for a good long time.
Toast of the round: "Here's to being single, drinking doubles, and seeing triple." Jay also finished an entire bottle on air. No notes.
Things People Pretend to Understand But Really Don’t
2026/08/27
Ever sat in a conversation nodding along like you totally get it, while internally screaming? Yeah. Shayne and Jay crack open Round 328 to tackle the fine art of pretending you know what you're talking about. Spoiler: they prove the point.
Topics in this round:
Wine tasting notes nobody actually understands (gunny sack and algebra pairing included)Whiskey flavors featuring oak, vanilla, and a hint of fearCryptocurrency, which is basically just fancy gamblingHow airplanes stay up (it's sorcery and we're not accepting debate)The printer ink rabbit hole that consumed the final actRound 328
Here's what our house elf, Artie (not Archie), says about this round:
Round 328 is proof that none of us really know what we're talking about. And that's beautiful.
Shayne and Jay start with a simple question: what do people pretend to understand? The list gets weird fast.
Wine? Shayne knows red and white. Jay orders Pinot Noir because it sounds fancy. Neither could pick a Cabernet in a blind taste test. The best wine knowledge in the room: "this pairs well with a gunny sack and algebra."
Whiskey? Shayne picks up oak, vanilla, and "a hint of fear." Their friend Brian's legendary move: just say "I'm getting a very strong whiskey taste" and own it. That's the play. Write it down.
Crypto? Jay is pretending to agree. Shayne says it's basically gambling. That's the most honest take on cryptocurrency anyone has ever given. No notes.
Printers? Jay tries to explain CMYK and goes down a rabbit hole that proves, in real time, that nobody in this recording studio understands toner. Or ink. Or the difference between them. The octopus tangent does not help. At all.
The guys land on the perfect takeaway: never assume you know what you're talking about. But always pretend that you do.
Here's what our house elf, Artie (not Archie), says about this round:
Round 327 is a wild ride through the Random Topic Generator, Volume 8, and Shayne and Jay do not disappoint.
**Should we get rid of a holiday?**
Shayne votes to cancel Presidents' Day and give Washington and Lincoln their own days back. Jay just wants whatever days he already has off. Relatable.
**More holidays or fewer?**
Both guys agree: MORE. Shayne wants meaningful celebrations like Spain's saint days. Jay just nods and takes a sip. Also relatable.
**What technology would blow medieval minds?**
Honestly? A book. Or a phone. Or literally anything with a screen. Medieval Europe had zero chill about miracles.
**Most influential book?**
Jay goes deep with Groucho Marx and Stephen King's *On Writing*. Shayne credits *Dune* for making him hyper-suspicious of coworkers. And weirdly okay with it.
**Will technology save or destroy us?**
Both agree: technology is fine. People are the problem.
Classic humans.
**Where do you eat most?**
Jay: Subway. Dream Jay: Bob's Steak and Chophouse or Frankie's Mexican. Shayne's currently in a Costa Vida chili lime chicken era and he is NOT sorry.
Toast of the round: *"Here's to randomness. You never know when it's gonna happen, and it always does sometimes, except when it doesn't, and it keeps you thinking because it's random."*
Here’s what our house elf, Artie (not Archie), says about this round:
Shayne and Jay dive into another batch of “phrases we can’t say anymore,” starting with the apparently dangerous greeting Merry Christmas. They debate whether anyone is actually offended, invent “Best Witches,” and wonder who decided joy was illegal.
Then they tackle boys will be boys, which somehow leads to dinosaurs, woolly mammoths, and Todd falling out of a tree. They break down I don’t see color, discuss colorblind friends, and remind everyone to lighten up.
Next up: bless you, which is now offensive because… reasons. Shayne shares Spanish sneeze etiquette (“Jesus!”), Jay mispronounces salud, and everyone gets confused.
Finally, they realize the article has way more than 15 phrases, question their counting skills, and decide a part three is inevitable. Because boys will be boys… and podcasters will be podcasters.
Here’s what our house elf, Artie (not Archie), says about this round:
**60s Slang Is Back, Baby. Or Is It?**
Shayne and Jay tackle 30 old-school sayings from the 1960s that someone thinks deserve a comeback. Shayne went in blind. Jay had the list. The results were outta sight.
**What They Dug:**
"Cat" got two thumbs up. "Dig it" is basically still in rotation. "Out of sight" rolls off the tongue and JJ from Good Times would approve. "Tuff" (yes, spelled T-U-F-F) already made its comeback thanks to Gen Alpha, and honestly it earned it.
**What Got the Boot:**
"Bogart" got a polite pass. "Shine it on" offended Jay personally. "Peel out" led to a replacement suggestion that we cannot repeat here but that had the boys in stitches.
**The Wild Card:**
“Heat” as slang for the cops sparked a full debate, a public service announcement, and a reference to the Val Kilmer and Robert De Niro movie. Jay prefers "popo." This is canon now.
The toast? Pure Jay chaos under pressure. The ending? Pure Shayne chaos under pressure. It all came together like a hairy situation that somehow resolved itself.
Come back next round, beer hearts. You can dig it.
Squeeze the Day: Beer Thursday's Sauciest Round Yet
2026/07/30
Shayne and Jay crack open the sauce vault and rank their all-time favorite condiments from number five all the way to the top. It gets spicy, it gets cheesy, and it gets a little weird when bacon gravy shows up as someone's number one.
**In this round:**
- Whataburger fancy ketchup vs. Chick-fil-A honey roasted BBQ
- Raising Cane's sauce, Big Mac special sauce, and the great duck sauce debate
**Here's what our house elf, Artie (not Archie), says about this round:**
Round 324 of Beer Thursday is all about sauce — and it does not hold back.
Shayne and Jay rank their top five favorite sauces, and things get delicious fast. Jay kicks things off with Whataburger's fancy ketchup, which he swears changed his life. Shayne fires back with Chick-fil-A honey roasted BBQ sauce — the kind you squeeze from a packet onto your nuggets.
From there, the rankings get serious. Jay's acquired taste for Raising Cane's sauce gets the spotlight. Shayne confesses his undying love for plain yellow mustard on basically everything. Big Mac sauce, Alfredo, and tartar sauce all make strong showings.
The honorable mentions bring the heat: Twin Peaks jalapeño cream gravy, Joe T. Garcia's salsa, and Texas Pete hot sauce all earn their place at the table.
Then the top two sauces arrive. Shayne drops Chuy's jalapeño ranch as his number one, and Jay immediately regrets not putting it in his own top five. Jay's number one? His late father's homemade bacon gravy — a deeply personal and genuinely touching pick that somehow makes total sense in a Beer Thursday kind of way.
The guys also roast Arby's RBQ sauce, the Taco Bell fire sauce situation, and the eternal mystery of why duck sauce is called duck sauce.
The toast of the round: "Some ships are wooden ships, but those ships may sink. The best ships are friendships, so to those ships we drink."
This round is warm, funny, and full of flavor. Pull up a chair and pass the Chuy's ranch.
Here’s what our house elf, Artie (not Archie), says about this round:
**Round 323 is all about pancakes, and it is glorious.**
Shayne and Jay tackle one of life's most important questions: what makes the perfect pancake? Spoiler alert: it involves buttermilk, a solid syrup strategy, and probably a trip to IHOP.
Jay reveals his all-time favorite pancake, the IHOP Harvest Grain & Nut, and Shayne introduces the crowd to the Australian pikelet, a fluffy little beauty made with curdled milk and scratch ingredients. The boys also revisit the legendary Old South Pancake House in Fort Worth, where 3 AM omelets and a no-nonsense waitress made for some truly unforgettable memories.
They debate syrup ratios, butter placement, and whether sweet cream pancakes live up to the hype. Spoiler: they do not.
The conversation takes a detour through Irish porridge, Kerrygold butter, steel-cut oats with berry compote (not compost, as Shayne helpfully clarifies), and somehow ends up at crustless protein pizza.
Classic Beer Thursday. Never a straight line, always a great time.
DC Universe, Part 1 [Redux from 2020]
2026/07/16
Grab your cape and your cold one, because Shayne and Jay are suiting up for a DC Universe deep dive. Round 322 is a Redux of the classic BT40, and these two self-proclaimed experts (their words) are ready to settle the score between the DC and Marvel movie universes. Spoiler: Wonder Woman wins everything.
Topics include:
Man of Steel, Henry Cavill, and the Zod controversyBatman v Superman and why Gal Gadot saved the whole movieSuicide Squad, Jared Leto's divisive Joker, and Margot Robbie's scene-stealing Harley QuinnWhy DC rushed their cinematic universe and paid for itWhere Wonder Woman ranks among Marvel movies**Round 322**
~~~~~~~
Here's what our house elf, Artie (not Archie), says about this round:
**DC Movies, Cold Beers, and Big Opinions**
Shayne and Jay are back with a Round Redux, revisiting one of their earliest deep dives into the DC Extended Universe. And yes, they are expertise. They even discovered a hidden Marvel movie once. Nobody else figured that out.
**Man of Steel gets some love.**
Jay is a lifelong Superman fan, and he gives Henry Cavill major props for making the role his own without trying to copy Christopher Reeve. The bus rescue scene, the weight of Clark Kent's childhood, and yes, the controversial ending with General Zod all get the Beer Thursday treatment.
**Batman v Superman? Mixed feelings.**
Jay basically calls it a decent Batman movie that Superman happened to show up in. Shayne enjoyed it because he is easily entertained. Both agree that Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman entrance alone was worth the price of admission.
**Suicide Squad and the Joker problem.**
Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn? Brilliant. Jared Leto as the Joker? Not so much. The guys give full credit where it's due and move on quickly.
**The big question: Did DC rush it?**
Shayne makes a sharp point. Marvel spent years building up to the Avengers. DC threw everyone into the same movie by film number two. The game was not allowed to come to them.
**Wonder Woman stands alone.**
Jay calls it his favorite DC movie and says it comes close to Marvel caliber. Where exactly it ranks among Marvel films is a question that will require its own round.
Part 2 is coming. Whenever that is.

5 Star Wars Quotes That Hit Harder Than the Death Star
2026/07/09
May the puns be with you. Shayne and Jay crack open a cold one and dig into five Star Wars quotes that hit way harder than you'd expect from a franchise with laser swords and a guy in a black helmet who breathes like he needs a nap. From Qui-Gon Jinn's focus philosophy to Leia's thoughts on hope, this round goes deep. Like, Marcus Aurelius deep.
**Topics include:**
Why your focus literally determines your reality (and why Anakin forgot that)Obi-Wan's "from a certain point of view" and whether that makes him a liarLeia dropping wisdom bombs in The Last JediA gut-punch quote from Andor that neither of them fully understood but loved anywayThe saddest thing Obi-Wan ever said on Mustafar**Round 321**

~~~~~~~
Here's what our house elf, Artie (not Archie), says about this round:
**Round 321 is a Star Wars episode with actual brains behind it.**
Shayne and Jay tackle five quotes from the Star Wars saga that are way deeper than you probably remembered from your first watch. And yes, they make it funny. Because of course they do.
**Quote 1: "Your focus determines your reality." – Qui-Gon Jinn**
Anakin had a plan. Then he focused on the wrong things. Shayne even ties it to cycling. Look where you want to go, not at the thing you're trying to avoid. Heavy.
**Quote 2: "Many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view." – Obi-Wan Kenobi**
Was Obi-Wan lying to Luke or just... spinning it? The guys debate whether Ben Kenobi was wise or just a very convincing fibber.
**Quote 3: "Hope is like the sun." – Leia**
From The Last Jedi. Beautiful. Short. Hits harder than you'd think.
**Quote 4: "I must burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see." – Luthen Rael, Andor**
Neither of them has seen Andor. They still love the quote. Respect.
**Quote 5: "You were my brother, Anakin. I loved you." – Obi-Wan**
Jay thinks it's not that deep. Then he thinks about it more. Then he gets sad.
They also go off on streaming subscriptions, Darth Sidious's long game, and why Qui-Gon's death might have been the most consequential moment in the whole saga.
Brian Interviews the Durango Brothers. A very BeerThursday Redux round!
Ladies and gentlemen, the moment you never knew you needed has arrived. Brian crashes Beer Thursday to conduct the world's most important press junket: a deep dive into the legendary 2003 self-titled album by the Durango Brothers, aka Jay Ray and Shayne Seymour. It's part celebrity interview, part chaos, and entirely unplanned.
Topics include:
The Durango Brothers album track-by-track breakdownWhy the band never broke up (they just stopped performing)COVID killing the reunion live showNeil Peart, Dick Van Dyke, and Mary Poppins horsesThe song "K" and what it *actually* spells out**Round 320**
**Here's what our house elf, Artie (not Archie), says about this round:**
Round 320 is a certified classic. Brian shows up and immediately turns Beer Thursday into a fake celebrity press junket for the Durango Brothers, the real-life 2003 folk-rock duo made up of brothers Jay Ray and Shayne Seymour.
Brian asks the hard-hitting questions. Is Jay still a bad man? Is Robin still a wild angel? Is Shayne still a Texas kind of guy? (Spoiler: yes, but with Spanish overtones.)
They cover the whole album — Bad Man, Wild Angel, The Ride, Texas Kind of Guy, and the mysterious song "K," which, once explained, becomes very obvious and very funny.
The guys also reveal that a Durango Brothers reunion live show was almost a thing. COVID had other plans.
Neil Peart gets a toast. Dick Van Dyke gets nervous. Mary Poppins horses get argued over.
Brian apologizes for ruining the show. Jay insists he saved it.
Nobody is wrong.
Is Brian Even a Real Person [Redux]
2026/06/25
Brian showed up, took over the mic, renamed the show Beer Tuesday, and somehow became the most prepared guest we've ever had. He came with notes. Actual grievances. And a Death Star ice cube. Topics include:
- Brian's comprehensive audit of past Beer Thursday rounds
- Crunch Berries, Honeycomb, and cereal crimes against humanity
- The Overboard remake nobody watched (including Brian)
- John Lennon, Regis Philbin, and gone too soon
- A Woodford Reserve toast to Alderaan
~~~~~~~
Here's what our house elf, Artie (not Archie), says about this round:
Brian walked into Beer Thursday like he owned the place, called it Beer Tuesday, and proceeded to file a full audit of past episodes. Classic Brian.
This round is pure chaos in the best way. Brian, Shayne, and Jay tumble through cereal debates (Crunch Berries got robbed), movie remake hot takes (Overboard deserved a mention), and a heartfelt Gone Too Soon discussion that somehow dragged John Lennon and Regis Philbin into the same sentence.
Brian brought Woodford Reserve, a Death Star ice cube, and the greatest toast in Beer Thursday history: **"To Alderaan."**
Jay's drinking Four Roses. Shayne's nursing the same Jameson bottle from 15 rounds ago. Nobody's judging. Much.
They wrap up with future episode pitches including top 25 soups and gnats vs. mosquitoes. Yes, really.
