The Care Market in Review: What You Need To Know in 2026 - Special Podcast with Christie & Co
2025/10/17
In our latest industry-leading podcast, we look at the state of the UK care home market and how the current economic and political landscape is impacting buyers and sellers.
We talk to Christie & Co’s managing director for care Richard Lunn, and head of healthcare consultancy Hannah Haines about trends, transactions and occupancy.
The Care Market Review 2025 special podcast reveals that market activity has picked up and yields continue to stabilise, but investors remain selective about where they put their money. The market is evolving with more M&A and joint ventures between investors and a focus on management contracts.
Moving into 2026, more money is likely to become available for mid-market deals and high-performing care homes.
On the podcast we also discuss how the sector will be impacted by the Labour government's overhaul of the planning system and how high construction costs are fuelling joint venture partnerships.
We also explore geographical trends, how interest from international investors is likely to grow in 2026, the future of purpose-built homes and other factors that will decide the health of the UK care home marketing over the next year.

Top Assisted Bathing Trends That Won't Drain Your Budget - Special Podcast
2025/06/23
Care homes can save time and money be reassessing how they replace and maintain their assisted baths and showers.
This is the message from moving and handling experts Medaco on the special Care Home Management podcast: ‘Top Assisted Bathing Trends That Won’t Drain Your Budget’.
Medaco is vendor-neutral, and operations director Steve Smallridge says the overall design on baths has not changed much during the company’s 40 years supporting care homes, but there are now many more options.
He adds that most baths last between 10-15 years, and providers need to decide when it is the most cost-effective time to replace assets rather than keep repairing them.
Most care homes will replace baths one at a time and it is important to be aware of wear and tear, especially when it comes to infection control and prevention.
Many baths are used for therapy nowadays as well as for general cleanliness, with features such as LED lights, spa and Bluetooth music options becoming more popular.
Showers are also becoming a more popular choice for care homes and for residents as part of any en-suite facility.
Installation manager Dave Hyde explains how new baths can be installed with minimum disruption, with many fixed in a resident’s room within one day. He also works with a nationwide team of engineers who advise care homes on how to get the most from their baths for longer.
