SD#181: Are You Guarding Your Heart—or Hardening It?
2026/09/21
Offenses are inevitable. Hardening is not.
When we've been hurt, self-protection can feel like wisdom. We build walls, distance ourselves, and determine that no one will ever hurt us that way again.
But Scripture reveals a sobering possibility: what begins as self-protection can eventually become spiritual petrification.
In this episode of Monday Mindset Reset, Dr. Denise Pass continues Getting to the Roots of Offense by examining how a heart becomes hardened—and how Christ enables us to remain tender toward God even after we've been wounded.
Zechariah 7 describes a progression: God's people refused to pay attention, turned a stubborn shoulder, stopped their ears, and eventually made their hearts "diamond-hard." The heart that was supposed to receive God's truth became resistant to it.
But that's not where the biblical story ends.
God promises in Ezekiel 36:26:
"I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh."
In this episode, you'll discover:
How offenses can progressively harden the heart
Why fearing God helps free us from the culture of offense
What Zechariah's "diamond-hard" heart teaches us about spiritual resistance
Why self-protection can become a barrier to both God and others
How to distinguish healthy boundaries from hardened walls
Why forgiveness does not require indiscriminate trust
How Jesus modeled both a soft heart and wise discernment
Why our identity does not have to be defined by how others treat us
How the mind of Christ transforms the way we respond to offense
Being hurt does not mean you are destined to hurt others. But pain that remains unexamined can begin shaping how we think, love, trust, and respond.
And Jesus shows us another way.
A soft heart is not naïve—it is surrendered.
He is our Defender. We can love—even when wisdom requires us to love from a distance.

SD#180: What is Quietly Hurting Your Relationships?
2026/09/15
Pride doesn't always look proud.
Sometimes it looks like needing to be right. Needing to be recognized. Struggling to receive correction. Feeling diminished when someone else is celebrated. Or becoming deeply offended when we aren't treated the way we believe we should be.
Pride can quietly damage our relationships without us ever recognizing it for what it is.
In this episode of Monday Mindset Reset, Dr. Denise Pass continues the September series, Getting to the Roots of Offense, by examining the subtle root of pride—and the freedom Christlike humility brings to our relationships.
Philippians 2 doesn't simply tell us to stop being prideful. It gives us an entirely different mindset: the mind of Christ.
In this episode, you'll discover:
Why pride can hide underneath hurt and offense
How pride turns disagreement into disrespect and correction into rejection
Why our need to be right, recognized, or vindicated can strain relationships
What Philippians 2 teaches us about the mindset of Christ
Why biblical humility is not thinking poorly of yourself
How humility allows us to receive correction without being crushed
Why we don't have to defend our reputation or win every disagreement
How the Gospel frees us from self-exaltation and the need for others' approval
Pride Says…Humility Says…
Pride says: "I deserve better."
Humility says: "Everything I have is grace."
Pride says: "I need them to recognize my value."
Humility says: "My identity is already secure in Christ."
Pride says: "I have to defend myself."
Humility says: "I can trust God with my reputation."
Pride says: "I would never do what they did."
Grace says: "Apart from Christ, I need mercy too."
Pride says: "I need to win."
The mind of Christ says: "I can humble myself and entrust the outcome to God."
Pride makes every wound feel like a throne was threatened. But humility reminds us that we were never meant to occupy the throne in the first place.

SD #179: Are You Bitter or Better?
2026/09/08
Are you bitter—or better?
Someone may have genuinely hurt you. The wrong may have been real. The debt may still feel unpaid. But the question isn't only what happened to you—it's what is taking root within you because of how you are thinking about what happened.
Hebrews 12:15 warns us to make sure that "no root of bitterness springs up, causing trouble and defiling many."
In this episode of Monday Mindset Reset, Dr. Denise Pass begins the September series, Getting to the Roots of Offense, by examining the first root: bitterness.
Bitterness rarely announces itself. Instead, it can sound like: "They owe me." "They don't deserve forgiveness." "If I let this go, they'll get away with it." But those thoughts can become fertile soil where bitterness grows.
In this episode, you'll discover:
Why being hurt is not the same thing as being bitter
What Scripture means by a "root of bitterness"
How the thoughts we rehearse can give bitterness room to grow
Why forgiveness acknowledges a real debt rather than pretending the wrong never happened
The difference between forgiveness, reconciliation, trust, boundaries, justice, and vengeance
How Cain illustrates the danger of allowing an internal response to take root
Why the Gospel—not denial—is the answer to bitterness
How to replace bitter thinking with the grace you have received in Christ
Bitterness Says...Grace Says...
Bitterness says: "They owe me."
Grace says: "Remember what you have been forgiven."
Bitterness says: "If I let this go, they get away with it."
Grace says: "God sees, God knows, and God judges justly."
Bitterness says: "Keep remembering what they did."
Grace says: "Remember what Christ has done."
Forgiveness does not mean the offense didn't matter. It doesn't eliminate appropriate boundaries, automatically restore trust, or mean justice should not be pursued.
A soft heart does not require weak boundaries.
The Gospel gives us another way. We can acknowledge the wrong while releasing our personal demand for vengeance and entrusting ourselves to the One who judges justly.
This Week's Mindset Reset
Do a little root inspection:
What offense am I still rehearsing?
What debt am I still trying to collect?
What am I believing because of what happened?
Where does God's grace need to be applied?
Then take one bitter thought and reframe it with the truth of the Gospel.
You may not be able to change what happened, but through Christ, you don't have to let someone else's sin determine what grows in you.
Mindset Minute
🌱 Bitterness grows where grace is not applied.

SD#178: Are You Offended?
2026/08/31
Are you offended?
Maybe your immediate answer is no. But is there a conversation you keep replaying? A wrong you believe needs to be repaid? A story you keep retelling? Someone whose motives you've already decided you understand?
Offense can gain momentum in our minds before we recognize what is happening. And while we cannot control what other people say or do, through Christ we can recognize the mindset temptations that invite us to take up an offense and allow it to take root.
In this episode of Monday Mindset Reset, Dr. Denise Pass examines five mindset temptations that can lead us into offense—and how the Gospel gives us a higher way to think about each one.
In this episode, you'll discover:
Rehearsing the wrong — when our minds continually replay what someone did. Requiring repayment — when we believe our freedom depends on someone finally making things right. Retelling the offense — when we seek an audience to validate our hurt rather than wise counsel that helps us heal. Reading motives — when we move beyond what someone did and assume we know why they did it. Reclaiming the right to retaliate — when hurt convinces us we have the right to make someone pay. The Gospel doesn't ask us to pretend the offense didn't happen. It doesn't call evil good, eliminate appropriate boundaries, or mean reconciliation must always occur.
Instead, the Gospel reframes our offenses.
Offense says, "Rehearse what they did."
The Gospel says, "Remember what Christ has done."
Offense says, "They owe me."
The Gospel says, "Remember what you have been forgiven."
Offense says, "I need everyone to hear my side."
The Gospel says, "God knows the whole story."
Offense says, "I know why they did it."
The Gospel says, "God knows their heart. I don't have to."
Offense says, "I have the right to make them pay."
The Gospel says, "I can entrust justice to the God who judges justly."
Someone else's sin does not have to become an invitation for sin to take root in us.
What they did belongs to them. What I do with what they did belongs to me before God.

SD#177: What Are You Afraid Of?
2026/08/24
What are you afraid of?
Fear has a way of making possibilities feel like realities. One fearful thought becomes another, and before long, we can find ourselves mentally living through circumstances that haven't even happened.
But just because we feel afraid doesn't mean fear is telling us the truth.
In this episode of Monday Mindset Reset, Dr. Denise Pass takes a biblical and theological look at fear—from its entrance into the human story in Genesis to the ultimate hope of Revelation. Along the way, we'll discover how Scripture distinguishes between fear and anxiety, why our thoughts can intensify our fears, and how the mind of Christ helps us respond to fear with faith rather than allowing fear to interpret reality for us.
Through Psalm 56:3–4, Matthew 6:25–34, Philippians 4:6–9, Proverbs 9:10, and other passages, we'll see that Scripture doesn't simply tell us, "Don't be afraid." God gives us a way to think differently in the presence of fear.
In this episode, you'll discover:
How fear entered the biblical story and why it so often makes us want to hide.
The difference between fear that responds to a real threat and anxiety that anticipates what might happen.
How David responded to fear by intentionally choosing trust.
Why Jesus redirects our anxious thoughts to the Father's knowledge, presence, and care.
Paul's practical prescription in Philippians 4 for prayer, thanksgiving, peace, and truthful thinking.
Why the fear of the Lord puts our other fears into their proper perspective.
How the hope of Revelation reminds us that fear does not get the final word—God does.
Five Antidotes to Fear
Remember — God is near.
Release — your fear and trust Him.
Rest — in your Father's care.
Replace — the lie with truth.
Revere — God above all.
This Week's Mindset Reset
When fear rises, don't just say, "I'm afraid."
Ask yourself:
What am I afraid of?
What am I believing because of this fear?
What does God's Word say is true?
Then choose one Scripture that speaks directly to the belief beneath your fear and rehearse that truth every time the fear returns.
Because fear loves possibilities, but faith anchors itself in truth.
Today's Mindset Minute
Fear asks, "What if?" Faith answers, "Even if...God is still faithful."

SD#176: Who's Your Audience?
2026/08/17
Whose approval are you living for?
Whether we realize it or not, we're all living before an audience. We replay conversations, compare ourselves to others, seek affirmation, and worry about what people think. But what if the greatest battle of the mind isn't simply negative thinking—it's living for the approval of the wrong audience?
In this episode of Monday Mindset Reset, Dr. Denise Pass explores one of the most subtle mindset traps believers face: people-pleasing and the fear of man. Following the storyline of Scripture from Genesis to Revelation, you'll discover how sin shifted humanity's focus from living before God to performing for the approval of others—and how the gospel sets us free to live before an Audience of One.
Through Genesis 3, Proverbs 29:25, Matthew 6, Galatians 1:10, and Revelation 22, you'll learn that lasting freedom comes not from gaining everyone's approval, but from resting securely in God's acceptance through Christ.
In this episode, you'll discover:
How shame entered the world by shifting our focus from God to ourselves.
Why the fear of man becomes a trap that steals our freedom.
What Jesus meant when He taught us to live before "our Father who sees in secret."
Why people-pleasing and faithful discipleship ultimately move in different directions.
How the promise of one day seeing God's face frees us from living for the approval of others today.
This Week's Mindset Reset:
Whenever you catch yourself wondering, "What will people think?" pause and ask:
"Whose approval am I seeking?"
Then choose faithfulness over performance.
Because true freedom begins when God's opinion matters more than everyone else's.
Key Scriptures:
Genesis 3:6–10; Proverbs 29:25; Matthew 6:1–6, 16–18; Galatians 1:10; Revelation 22:3–4

SD#175: Where is Your Hope?
2026/08/11
Where have you placed your hope?
When life doesn't unfold the way we expected, it's easy to believe that nothing will ever change. Unanswered prayers, difficult diagnoses, broken relationships, grief, anxiety, and seasons of waiting can quietly rob us of hope. But what if biblical hope isn't rooted in changing circumstances—but in the unchanging character of God?
In this episode of Monday Mindset Reset, Dr. Denise Pass explores one of the greatest mindset battles we face: believing our circumstances determine whether we have reason to hope. Through Romans 15:13, Psalm 27:13–14, Romans 8, Hebrews 6:19, and Revelation 21, you'll discover that biblical hope is far more than wishful thinking—it's the confident expectation that God will fulfill every promise He has made.
More than positive thinking, Christian hope is eschatological hope—a hope anchored in the certainty of Christ's return, the resurrection of believers, and the promise of a new heaven and new earth where God will dwell with His people forever. Because we know how the story ends, we can live with confidence today.
In this episode, you'll discover:
Why biblical hope is different from wishful thinking.
How to find hope in seasons of waiting, grief, anxiety, and suffering.
Why your circumstances don't have the final word.
How the certainty of Christ's return transforms the way you live today.
Why Revelation is not merely a book about the future, but a book that fuels hope in the present.
A practical mindset reset to help anchor your hope in God's character instead of changing circumstances.
This Week's Mindset Reset:
Whenever discouragement whispers, "Nothing will ever change," pause and ask:
"What am I hoping in?"
Then shift your eyes from your circumstances to God's promises. Hope isn't confidence that everything will work out the way you planned—it's confidence that God's eternal plan will prevail.
Because hope is not rooted in what we see today; it is anchored in the God who has already secured tomorrow.
Key Scriptures:
Romans 15:13; Psalm 27:13–14; Romans 8:18–25; Hebrews 6:19; Revelation 21:1–5

SD#174: Who Do You Think You Are?
2026/08/03
Who defines your identity?
The world is quick to assign labels based on our past, our performance, our relationships, or other people's opinions. Before long, we begin believing those labels ourselves. But what if those labels were never meant to define you?
In this episode of Monday Mindset Reset, Dr. Denise Pass explores one of the greatest mindset battles we face: believing that our past, failures, or circumstances determine who we are. Through the truth of Colossians 3:1–4, Romans 6, and 1 John 3, you'll discover that your identity is not something you achieve—it's something you receive in Christ.
If you've ever struggled with feeling like a failure, overlooked, rejected, anxious, or "not enough," this episode will encourage you to replace the world's labels with God's truth.
In this episode, you'll discover: Why your identity is not defined by your past or other people's opinions. The difference between worldly identity and your identity in Christ. How false labels become mindset traps. A practical exercise to replace lies with biblical truth. Why renewed thinking begins with receiving what God already says about you. This week's Mindset Reset:
Whenever you catch yourself saying, "I am..." pause and ask: "Is this something God says about me, or is this simply something I've experienced?"
Because your identity isn't achieved—it's received.

Colossians 3:1–4

While the podcast has a fresh weekly format and a new name—Monday Mindset Reset—the mission remains the same: helping you renew your mind through the truth of God's Word. If you've been listening for years, welcome back! If you're new here, I'm so glad you've joined us.
What if the greatest battle you face isn't around you—but within you?

If you've ever felt stuck in negative thought patterns, discouraged by your circumstances, or unsure how to experience lasting change, this episode offers hope rooted in God's Word.
In this episode you'll discover:
• Why your mindset matters to your spiritual growth.
• How your thoughts influence every area of your life.
• The difference between worldly thinking and the mind of Christ.
• One practical step you can take this week to begin renewing your mind.

SD#170 Renewing Your Purpose
2023/05/01
Life throws us curveballs that can throw us off course and off purpose. Our mindsets are shaped largely by our environment without our being aware. Knowing our "why" or our purpose and keeping it in front of us helps us to steer and maintain a healthy, godly mindset. Renewing your purpose will require vigilance to recognize when you are drifting from God's purpose and calling on your life.
Don't let failure stop you from living on purpose with the purpose God has for you. We can limit our purpose based on man's limitations or we can simply live on purpose no matter what the results are.
God is not held accountable for a purpose that is not of His own design. So when we renew our purpose to be God's purpose for us, we don't have to strive. Listen in for five tips to help you to keep your mindset from drifting from your purpose and being faithful to God's call on your life.
SD#169 Renewing Your Resolve
2023/04/25
Renewing our minds involves resolving to do so. Resolving to think like Jesus is not just a resolution of the flesh but of the Spirit. And when we resolve to think like Jesus, our suffering and problems in this life are reframed with the gospel. Our resolve is not to suffer, but to have the same attitude and response to suffering that Christ did.
Suffering does not have to end in order for us to be able to choose joy. Listen in to this week's Seeing Deep podcast.
SD #168 Renewing Your Focus
2023/04/17
Mind renewal is not dependent upon perfect circumstances, but it is dependent upon a perfect God. What we focus on shapes our mindset and worldview. Renewing your focus takes intentionality and practice. Listen in to some tips on how to renew your focus and ultimately your mind in Christ.
SD #167 Renewing Your Mind
2023/04/09
Happy Easter, all!
Christ has risen! In Christ, we have His victory! But sometimes we don't live like it. This is where mind renewal comes in. Renewing your mind is not just a good thing to do. Don't neglect mind renewal. It affects your whole life.
So why is it so hard to renew our mind? We have the Holy Spirit. We have God's word. We have the mind of Christ.
Mindset woes are often provoked by life's "non-fun" circumstances. Life's mishaps are never convenient. If our mindset is dependent upon a convenient, perfect, comfortable life, we are in trouble. Life in a fallen world is not perfect. But our Savior is, and His mind is. We were never meant to live life apart from our Savior.
Don't let unbelief keep you from the mind renewal and transformation that belong to you in Christ Jesus!
Listen to today's episode and learn what is needed in the foundation of our mindsets to help us renew our minds daily.
