The Ness, Fitness Freedom + Your Body is Your Home with Aly Giampolo and Colette Dong
2022/06/21
As former dancers and now the founders of The Ness, Alison Giampolo and Colette Dong are all about challenging and redefining movement as they don’t subscribe to outdated ideologies about fitness and weight loss. Their focus is wanting you to feel good. Experiencing what a positive impact the trampoline had on their personal bodies and minds, they were inspired to concentrate on a method and share the lasting benefits of rebounding with their community. I sit down to chat with Aly and Colette about a new way of thinking about fitness, whether you want to try the trampoline or not. More importantly, this conversation is an invitation for you to look at your movement routine as a way to not only engage your mind and body, but a way for you to return to the fun of what movement could look like in your life. We also talk about: How to rebalance your relationship with exercise The importance of finding movement you love Discovering the difference between a routine and intuitive movement How they found the trampoline and the benefits of it Thinking about mindfulness in your workout sessions Focusing on recovery as we get older Feeling at home in your body Cultivating community in vulnerable spaces Connect with us after the show at https://rainemediaco.com (https://rainemediaco.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @holaimkayla Order my new book Glass Walls https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B2M23HKP?ref_=pe_3052080_276849420 (here) Submit your small biz ads application https://rainemediaco.com/small-biz-ads-program (here) Check out the ness on their website: Follow the ness on IG: @thenessnyc Follow Colette on IG: @colettedong Follow Aly on IG: @alygiampolo Sponsors Have a small business? How to Calm Anxiety & Fear During World Events
2022/06/14
Look, life can be tough. With big, world events on display that shake us to the core happening on the regular, it can be incredibly difficult to maintain our balance. From social media to turning on the news, you're unable to escape everything unless you truly live under a rock. On the flip side, there’s a certain responsibility we hold to be good global citizens and know what’s happening. So what do we do? In this solo episode, my intention was to have a space for you to come to when you need to ground down when the world starts to shake you up. Moreover, I share how all of us can intentionally work on these grounding principles on a regular basis so we can use them as pre-emptive tools. We also talk about: Why we need to include discussions about world events into our wellness practices The issue with focusing on taking action immediately after a traumatic event A detailed look at how we can activate our five senses Tips to make these practices easier for you to incorporate on a daily basis How to take action to be an active global citizen when you’re ready Connect with us after the show at https://rainemediaco.com (https://rainemediaco.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @holaimkayla Order my book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback and Kindle https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017? In this episode, Deepa dives into why all of us are rethinking how we work and points to a progressive future where we can make workplaces work for us. We also talk about: Her relationship with her career Overworking vs being a good worker Why our current workplaces aren’t a true meritocracy Self-worth and our career Detaching your identity within your job title Why a lot of us lean into the role of the fixer When to speak up vs not speak up Holding your boundaries How family dynamics can mimic our relationships at work Her take on the future of work Connect with us after the show at https://rainemediaco.com (https://rainemediaco.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @holaimkayla Order my book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback and Kindle https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017? Shifting to a Life-Work Balance
2022/05/31
If you’ve been paying attention to what’s happening within the world related to work, a lot of folks are rethinking how they show up within their workspaces (me included). With the panorama, all of us have been forced to look at our relationship with work and reimagine how we can flip the idea of a “work-life” balance to one of a “life-work” balance. In this solo episode, and fresh off of vacation, I’m reflecting on my own journey to center my personal life and shift away from making my work the main focus of my life. While everyone’s in a different season of their lives, there’s a mindset shift we need to make to change how we view balance. Moreover, what if balance doesn’t exist? What if we can focus more on our own lives outside of work? What would it look like to take our humanity back? We also talk about: My view of balance Reflections on a work-life mindset How to do a time and energy audit of your life Recalibrating your time to spend it more efficiently Executing and implementing boundaries Creating systems to take your time back Connect with us after the show at https://rainemediaco.com (https://rainemediaco.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @holaimkayla Order my book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback and Kindle https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017? Asha Bromfield: The Path to Return to Ourselves
2022/05/24
As an actress, singer, and writer of Afro-Jamaican descent, Asha Bromfield is all about how we can experience the fullest expression of our creativity at the intersection of healing and self-exploration. Inspired by her own self-healing journey, Asha is focused on her mission to show that representation should include multifaceted Black characters along with nuanced storytelling, while also using creativity as a remedy for our own inner work. Whew, this was a deep, fluid, and larger-than-life conversation about all of the facets of what it means to live life. What I love about this conversation is that we flow through the many aspects of her book that spoke to me, while also exploring her own interpretation of the words she wrote. This episode is an invitation to investigate the rewards we get from life’s beauty, while also balancing the pain we tend to experience on the path to coming home to ourselves. We also talk about: Her relationship with creativity The yearning to be loved by our parents Accepting your parents for who they are The role of nature in healing Giving young girls grace and support Reclaiming parts of ourselves and our magic How we look at a young girl’s sexuality in today’s world Looking at what happens during the death and rebirth of ourselves Connect with us after the show at https://rainemediaco.com (https://rainemediaco.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @holaimkayla Order my book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback and Kindle https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017? What I've Learned About Self Censorship
2022/05/17
Have you been feeling like you can’t speak your truth? Those moments when you feel the push and pull between wanting to vocalize what you’re feeling and wanting to mind your business? Or maybe it’s a feeling of you wanting to run and hide to avoid any sort of discomfort? I’ve been there many times over friend. In this solo episode, I’m sharing what I’ve learned about self-censorship and how I now think about this concept in a practical way. My intention with this episode is to invite you to reflect on the ways you’ve been censoring yourself, but also give you permission to not have to react to everything all of the time. We also talk about: The definition of self-censorship What it looks like to speak up for your values Releasing people-pleasing tendencies Choosing a better life Learning how to have disagreements How disagreeing with people is healthy Connect with us after the show at https://rainemediaco.com (https://rainemediaco.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @holaimkayla Order my book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback and Kindle https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017? Navigating Your Own Path with Angelee Lopez
2022/05/10
As a certified meditation guide, journal author, wellness educator, and founder of Manifest House™, Angelee Andorfer-Lopez is all about creating virtual wellbeing spaces rooted in a community that helps BIPOC women and allies care for all aspects of themselves unapologetically. Inspired by her own self-healing journey, Angelee has helped hundreds of women come back home to themselves by deepening their connection to self, community, and nature. If you’re looking for a conversation about all things holistic wellness, this one is for you. What I love about this conversation is that we hit home on all of the basics that all of us (including me) need a refresher on: listening to nature, taking care of yourself, and showing up in your truth. This episode is an invitation to check in with yourself and how you’re practicing and implementing these wellness fundamentals in your own life. We also talk about: Her relationship with wellness What it means to come back to ourselves The issue with always wanting to transform ourselves Deepening into the acceptance of ourselves Taking off the armor Not everyone is ready to see the full you Releasing the control of other people’s reactions to you standing in your truth A different way to look at grief Getting curious about your wellness Connect with us after the show at https://rainemediaco.com (https://rainemediaco.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @holaimkayla Order my book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback and Kindle https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017? How to Create a More Fulfilling Life
2022/05/03
When I turned 30, I had a mini freak out and started asking myself a bunch of questions. Why do I still hate my job? Why aren’t my relationships going the way I want? What’s my purpose? And while I give myself an immense amount of grace during this time, I realized I wasn’t asking myself the correct question. I should’ve been asking myself: how do I live a more fulfilling life through the lens of jobs, relationships, etc? For the past 10 months, I’ve been intentionally focusing on how to create more fulfillment through dissecting what it means to be fulfilled (because none of us learn this when we’re growing up), and where the disconnect was rooted in not feeling fulfilled. This episode is a beautiful combination of the grounding tactical things I’ve done to improve the quality of my life, while also adding in a bit of the woo and fluidity of creating fulfillment for ourselves. We also talk about: The difference between happiness and fulfillment Creating opportunities to do things that light you up Find multiple outlets for fulfillment An important question to ask yourself throughout the process of finding fulfillment Building systems for inspiration Connect with us after the show at https://rainemediaco.com (https://rainemediaco.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @holaimkayla Order my book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback and Kindle https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017? You're Not Broken with Gaby Ulloa
2022/04/26
As a Cuban-American journalist and podcast host, Gabriela Ulloa is all about covering topics from Latinx culture and mental health to beauty, style, identity, personal development, and mental health. Through her work, she’s dedicated her storytelling to highlighting stigmatized topics, particularly within marginalized communities. Mostly, she works to normalize talking about feelings on the internet. If you’re looking for a chill, down-to-earth conversation about mental health then this episode is the one for you. What I love about this conversation is that we centered the conversation around this idea of “being broken” as we debunk why that’s actually not true as we share stories about our own lives to dispel that myth. This episode is an invitation to look at all facets of your mental health in a way where you feel like you’re chatting with a couple of friends sipping a cup of tea. We also talk about: Her relationship with mental health The stereotypes she’s dealt with in her own mental health journey The emphasis on work for immigrant kids and how it impacts our inner child The integration of culture and mental health How our partners can be mirrors of our deeper work Removing the identity of achievement The lessons she’s learned from breakups about standing in her power Are you lying to yourself? Rethinking Traditional Relationship Advice
2022/04/19
All of us can recall a moment along this journey of life where we’ve received a piece of relationship advice that made us go “huh”? Me included. In an age of constant information, we have access to so many different ways of thinking and perspectives related to relationships, but there’s still so much information out there that clings to a narrative that no longer works in today’s dating world. While I’ve been in multiple long-term relationships and have navigated my own dating life, I’ve come to realize that a lot of the relationship advice we’re given is rooted in fear. So in today’s solo episode, I’m sharing those pieces of advice that I’ve received and flipping them on their head to reveal a different way to cultivate loving, healthy relationships. We also talk about: Why the world is fascinated with relationships Putting effort into connecting with people Things you’re unintentionally doing that make you seem unavailable The difference between losing yourself and letting parts of you go The role of self-love in relationships Connect with us after the show at https://rainemediaco.com (https://rainemediaco.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @holaimkayla Order my book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback and Kindle https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017? An Inside Look at Public Health with Dr. Angelica Hardee
2022/04/12
As the Vice President of Health Strategy at the American Heart Association and a public health professional, Dr. Angelica Hardee (aka Dr. JB) is focused on addressing the top health priorities of the Greater Cincinnati/NKY region by leading work related to hypertension, e-cigarette/tobacco use, and healthy food access. More specifically, she engages with community organizations and neighborhood coalitions to identify their health and wellness priorities. As a friend of fifteen years and one of the most dedicated people I know to create equitable wellness for all, I always have fun catching up with her. What I love about this conversation is that we touch on many different facets of public health that we don’t talk about within the larger wellness space and how it impacts our communities. This episode is an invitation to care for your community in a deeper way while understanding the systemic issues we continue to face domestically. We also talk about: A fun memory from high school How the global pandemic impacted the public health space The interconnectedness of government systems and health How we can make an impact on the health of our communities One of the biggest health issues that we’re facing with the youth A behind the scenes look at wellness public policies Connect with us after the show at https://rainemediaco.com (https://rainemediaco.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @holaimkayla Order my book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback and Kindle https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017? Shedding an Identity? Listen In.
2022/04/05
If you’re like me, you’ve gone through many experiences in your life where you’ve felt this need to shift into a new identity (ie. welcome to my teen years where I wanted to be a new person all of the time). But while it can be liberating to step into a new version of yourself, there’s also an opportunity for fear to slowly creep in too and that fear could stop you from said evolution. While my needing to shed a few aspects of my identity is showing up more often in my 30’s and Saturn return, I’ve started to wrap my head around the pieces we often forget within this process. So in today’s solo episode, I’m sharing what I’ve been working with as I enter into different identities and shift my thought process into one that supports my overall growth. We also talk about: Personal updates: moving, social media, business stuff Dating, not marrying my opinions Making moves with my bodily instinct Loving the process What a real growth mindset is in today’s world Connect with us after the show at https://rainemediaco.com (https://rainemediaco.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @holaimkayla Order my book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback and Kindle https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017?
