A Southern Talk With The Complete Rifleman Ron Spomer
2026/10/22
Brad and Tucker welcome longtime hunting writer and broadcaster Ron Spomer to discuss shotguns, rifles, cartridges, and the choices hunters face in the field. They compare classic firearms such as the Remington 1100 and Browning A5, and talk about how gun quality, fit, maintenance, and the shooter all shape performance.
The conversation turns to rifle cartridges and the debates that surround them. Ron explains that successful hunting depends less on chasing a supposedly perfect caliber and more on choosing a suitable bullet, placing it well, and understanding how a rifle shoots. He discusses familiar options such as the .243, .270, .30-06, 7mm Rem Mag, and 6.5 Creedmoor, as well as straight-wall cartridges like the .350 Legend.
Ron’s advice is to prioritize familiarity over novelty: practice with the same rifle and ammunition, know its trajectory, and don’t take a new rifle into the field before you’re comfortable with it. He also shares thoughts on choosing a manageable rifle for young hunters, using a firearm when traveling to hunt, and the growing interest in suppressors.Alongside the technical advice, Ron recalls a lifetime of hunting across different landscapes and for many kinds of game. His standout memory is a Dall sheep hunt in Alaska: after a hard week in the mountains, he and his companions rode back through snow beneath a full moon, startled a grizzly, and watched wolves cross a riverbed near camp. For Ron, moments like that capture what makes the hunt meaningful: the people, place, challenge, and shared experience.

Deer, Data, and Decades of Experience with Chris Cook
2026/10/15
This recording features Brad Bowen and Tucker interviewing Chris Cook, a retired Alabama wildlife biologist with more than 30 years of experience. They discuss his career working with wildlife management areas, including Wolf Creek, and his early years growing up hunting and fishing in rural northwest Florida.Cook shares practical advice for hunting public land: learn the area over time, pay attention to wind and how you enter and leave a stand, and avoid assuming the land is too crowded to hunt. He explains how hunting pressure can change deer movement quickly, why bucks may seem nocturnal, and how the timing of the rut varies across Alabama. The conversation also covers deer age and antler development, restocking history, breeding patterns, food plots, bait, minerals, and habitat management. Cook explains that young spikes are usually not a sign of poor genetics, and that providing suitable habitat and allowing deer to mature are key to supporting better deer. The episode closes with memories of family hunting trips and a discussion about helping children enjoy the outdoors. Brad and Cook reflect on why walking the woods, squirrel hunting, and making the experience fun can be a better introduction than expecting kids to sit quietly in a deer stand.

Fishing Talk with Jesse Wiggins
2026/10/08
Jesse Wiggins, a professional bass angler from Addison, Alabama, joins Brad Bowen to talk about turning a love of fishing into a career. He shares how he worked his way up to the highest levels of tournament fishing, and how winning an early tournament gave him the confidence to believe he belonged.
Jesse explains why the shaky head helped launch his fishing career and why the chatterbait remains one of his favorite all-around baits. He recounts catching a 10-pound, 1-ounce bass at Lake Guntersville and offers practical advice on keeping fish hooked, choosing line, and knowing when to move on from a fish you see on sonar.
The conversation also explores how Jesse balances professional fishing with hunting and family life. He describes taking his young son fishing, talks about turkey and deer hunting, and shares stories of frog gigging, bow fishing, and growing up in North Alabama’s outdoor culture.
From childhood memories of dog hunting to the early tournaments that opened the door to a pro career, Jesse reflects on the experiences that shaped him. His story offers encouragement to young anglers: build experience step by step, make the most of opportunities, and keep pursuing what you love.

Hunter's All Game Talk: Minerals vs. Food
2026/10/01
Brad Bowen welcomes Todd Brogdon and Shane Whitten of Hunters All Game, an Alabama hunting-product business. Todd describes how the brand outgrew what he could manage alone, while Shane brought business energy and helped expand production and online sales. The guests discuss how a small local store helped demonstrate demand, and why the company is now focusing on efficient production and distribution rather than chasing every retail opportunity.
The conversation covers the company’s mineral and attractant products, including why minerals can be useful year-round and how deer preferences vary by property and season. The guests encourage hunters to consider local habitat, try different flavors, and pay attention to product quality rather than relying on salt-heavy blends. They also share customer experiences—including deer responding to a new attractant—and explain that no product can guarantee a big buck. The episode also explores the human side of hunting: helping young people get outdoors, sharing memorable hunts with family, and finding joy in someone else’s success. Todd and Shane tell stories ranging from humorous mishaps in the woods to deeply moving moments involving a stepson and a late family member’s hunting gear. The discussion closes on the idea that hunting is about more than antlers: it’s about relationships, memories, perseverance, and staying curious.

Seed, Soil, and Stories with Matt of WMS
2026/09/24
Brad Bowen and Tucker Bowen welcome Matt Rushing from Wildlife Management Solutions to Bowen Taxidermy for a practical conversation about preparing deer food plots across Alabama and the South. With planting season approaching, Matt explains which seed blends work best for different locations, including the Alabama Blend, Mississippi Mix, Deer Magnet, brassica blends, and clover options.
The discussion covers the fundamentals every hunter and landowner needs to know, including soil pH, the importance of lime, fertilizer, seed-to-soil contact, no-till planting, and the best timing for planting around rain, soil temperature, and changing weather. Matt also explains what brassicas are, how turnips, rape, kale, and daikon radishes differ, and why ryegrass may not provide the nutritional value many hunters expect.
Brad, Tucker, and Matt also share plenty of stories from the field, including army worm problems, feeder patterns, chufa plots, clover management, and the trial-and-error that comes with learning how to grow a successful greenfield. The conversation expands into hunting memories, taxidermy, guiding, youth hunts, memorable deer, and the importance of preserving the traditions and relationships that make hunting meaningful.
Whether you are planting your first food plot or trying to improve one you have managed for years, this episode offers practical advice, regional insight, and plenty of relatable stories. Visit WMSoutdoors.com to learn more about the available seed blends and find a dealer near you.

Buck Masters talk With Cody Hall Inbox
2026/09/17
This episode of Bama Wallhangers features Cody Hall, a Buckmasters representative, discussing his journey from growing up as a South Mississippi hunter to working for one of the most recognizable names in the outdoor industry. Cody explains how Buckmasters began more than 40 years ago with Jackie Bushman and evolved from television competitions and print magazines into a broader media brand that includes television, podcasts, YouTube, social media, and digital content.
A major focus of the conversation is Buckmasters’ effort to connect with everyday hunters. Cody describes the Big Buck Blueprint podcast, which shares relatable stories from hunters who may have limited land, equipment, or resources but still find ways to succeed. Rather than focusing only on record-breaking deer or expensive guided hunts, the show highlights the hard work, setbacks, family involvement, and personal stories behind each hunt.
Cody also offers advice for young and inexperienced deer hunters. He recommends learning the land, talking with experienced hunters, understanding deer travel patterns, and using trail cameras as a tool without relying on them completely. He emphasizes that food, water, and bedding are the essentials deer need, and he encourages hunters to pay attention to natural food sources, terrain, bedding areas, and seasonal movement.
The episode closes with stories about Cody’s first deer, his family’s growing love for the outdoors, and the importance of sharing hunting experiences with children. The hosts also discuss the Buckmasters scoring system, which gives deer full credit for their natural antler characteristics without deducting for irregularities and does not require a drying period or velvet removal. Overall, the conversation presents hunting as more than harvesting an animal—it is also about family, memories, stewardship, faith, and spending time outdoors.

Tag It & Bag It!
2026/09/10
This episode centers on Johnny Bauman and his company, Tagged and Bagged, a hunting accessory brand built to help hunters transport birds properly to the taxidermist. The idea was born from a painful personal experience: losing a dog’s last retrieve to freezer burn. That moment inspired Johnny to create a higher-quality solution that protects birds and preserves the memories connected to them. The hosts relate to that purpose because they understand how much care goes into turning a hunt into a lasting keepsake.
The conversation explains how Tagged and Bagged works and why it matters. The product includes a large protective bag, tags, cotton, wrapping materials, instructions, and other supplies designed to prevent freezer damage. The group emphasizes that the product is American-made, compact, and useful for hunters who travel. They also discuss how properly packaged birds save taxidermists time and reduce the risk of damaged feathers or other problems. The episode also explores hunting culture, business ethics, and the challenges taxidermists face. Johnny, Brad, and Tucker discuss deposits, delayed pickups, storage fees, communication, and the difficulty of holding completed mounts for months or years. All parties are looking for solutions to this matter. The final section features several memorable hunting stories. Johnny describes a dramatic Vancouver Island duck hunt involving a 14-foot boat, an axle repair in a Walmart parking lot, heavy fog, tidal dangers, crab traps, and a successful harvest of numerous sea ducks. He also shares the story of an Idaho bear hunt and talks about an upcoming Alaska trip for sandhill cranes, ducks, fishing, and possibly black bear. The episode closes with themes of adventure, perseverance, friendship, and helping hunters protect the memories created in the field.

The Warden and Dove Season
2026/09/03
The episode kicks off with excitement for dove season and a recap of recent travels, including a stop to learn more about ammunition and how much goes into making the right shells. The hosts welcome Curt Porter back to share advice and reminders before the season opens, creating a conversation that is both timely and informative. They also emphasize the value of learning from experienced hunters and passing that knowledge along to others, especially newer hunters and kids.
A major focus of the episode is dove hunting safety and legality. Curt explains practical things hunters should remember, like checking a field for anything out of place, staying aware of road and right-of-way boundaries, and using the Outdoor Alabama app to check sunrise, sunset, and weather. The discussion also covers licensing changes, HIP permits, age requirements, and why it’s important to get all of your paperwork right before heading into the field.
The conversation closes on a personal and reflective note, with the hosts sharing memories that highlight why hunting matters beyond the harvest itself. They talk about kids, family time, and the traditions that make opening season special, from first dove hunts to simple moments sitting together in the field. The episode wraps by looking ahead to future discussions about waterfowl and encouraging listeners to stay prepared, stay legal, and enjoy the season with the people around them.

A Talk with Apex Ammunition
2026/08/27
A big thank you to Jared, Cameron, and Boomer for their hospitality and engagement. This episode follows Bama Wall Hangers as they travel to neighboring Columbus, MS to visit Apex Ammunition’s warehouse and production center to talk with company leadership about how Apex started, what makes its TSS loads different, and why the company expanded into dove loads. The conversation is part origin story, part ammo education, and part look at the realities of building a manufacturing business from scratch.
We discuss Apex’s founding, the science behind tungsten super shot, and how the team thinks about load design, customer service, and hunting performance. Apex started in January 2017 after the founders went duck hunting together and started comparing shells, patterns, and performance. The company was built by three original founders, Brad talks with the team about how their wives in aviation and the military helped connect them in the first place.
Apex was bootstrapped with about $30,000 and started production out of a 20 by 30 wood shop at one founder’s father’s house. The first shop sale reportedly brought in $13,000 of product in about 10 minutes, which helped confirm demand early on.The team explains how military deployments and relocations forced them to run the company from different continents while family members and Jared’s dad helped keep operations moving. Apex’s current structure is outlined clearly: one partner handles operations, recipes, and branding, another handles executive decisions, and Rick helps with financial strategy.
The company’s core product focus is TSS, and the episode breaks down why tungsten super shot is denser than lead and why that matters for pellet count and pattern density. Jared explains the manufacturing process at a high level, including binders, furnace processing, grinding, washing, and sizing. The conversation compares gauges and use cases, especially 28 gauge, 20 gauge, and 410 bore for turkey and waterfowl hunting. The team discusses why smaller gauges have become more popular as TSS performance improved, especially for youth hunters and smaller-framed shooters.

Goodman Ranch
2026/08/20
This episode takes listeners to Goodman Ranch in Tennessee, where the hosts visit with Chris, the ranch manager, for a wide-ranging conversation about hunting, hospitality, and what makes the property such a unique destination. The discussion covers the ranch’s move from one owner to another, how the team got started, and the effort it takes to manage a large game property with a healthy mix of animals like axis deer, fallow deer, aoudad, blackbuck, elk, stag, buffalo, and more.A big theme of the conversation is the ranch experience itself.
Chris explains how Goodman Ranch welcomes everyone from experienced hunters to first-timers and families bringing kids for a memorable outdoors trip. The hosts talk about seeing animals throughout the property, the challenge of deciding what to hunt, and the satisfaction of helping guests get the right animal, the right mount, and the right memory to take home.
The episode also gets personal, with stories about past hunting trips, family memories, bow hunting, and the value of spending time outdoors together. Chris shares what he’s learned about managing different species, keeping the herd healthy, and making sure guests feel taken care of from arrival to departure. It’s a warm, entertaining conversation about hunting culture, land stewardship, and creating experiences people want to come back for year after year.

Deer Expo Recap
2026/08/13
Today we recap the weekend at the World Deer Expo in Birmingham, AL. Discussion about how the guys with the expo have things figured out. Smooth set up experience leading to a weekend of meeting so many great people. We have found a gem in Henderson, TN, The Goodman Ranch that we will do a show from in the future. Brad was renamed Aoudad Brad. 3 Days of meeting and discussion of taxidermy and hunting. Take down and load out was also easy with the guys.
Also introduce local legend Miles Dozer who suffers from vehicular flatulence. He caused a stir while traveling to and from the expo, but helped us out big time. Miles has been a close friend of Tucker's for the majority of his life. We talk about Mile's granddad and how he is one of the "good guys". He is one of the men who love the outdoors and knows the woods and is a killer.
Sawyer kicks off memories today with the "dog attack" story involving Miles. Miles and Tucker go back several years to recap hunting trips and memories. Some successful hunts and some that required a tracking dog or drone.
