How My Anxiety Has Changed In My 40s
2024/02/22
It's been awhile since we've talked directly about mental health, and I wanted to give a personal update about what I've noticed is different about my lifelong anxiety in the last few years. I attribute these changes to aging, and evolving lifestyle, and a few different habits that I have really prioritized since I turned 40. As always when I share on this topic, it is meant to be purely my own experience and is not medical advice. 10 Tips To Build Your Best Wardrobe
2024/02/15
I always thought that a benefit to getting older was that I would settle into a signature style, but the truth is that my 40s has been sort of a fashion roller coaster. Maybe it's a changing body, maybe the pandemic led to some lazy dressing habits, or maybe our personal style is just always evolving. Alison Lumbatis is a professional style confidence expert and her tips on social media over the years have been so life-giving to me. (You also might remember her from Ep 134: 10 Tips To Wardrobe Confidence.) In this episode, she is sharing 10 tips for taking stock of your closet and building a functional wardrobe that serves your needs and also makes you look great. 10 Things All Podcast Fans Should Know
2024/01/30
This episode is not just for 10 Things To Tell You podcast fans, but for all podcast fans IN GENERAL. You might have heard rumblings about the state of the podcast industry, as popular shows get canceled and massive layoffs keep happening at some of the largest audio companies. It's true that podcasting as a whole is going through some growing pains, and this is not just at the corporate level. Big and small shows are affected by these changes and listeners (YOU!) might already be feeling it. In this episode, I'm walking through 10 things I want podcast fans to know. I'll share some backstory to how we got here, what is different about podcasting (and podcast listening) now, why your podcast ads sometimes sound wonky, and what I would tell someone wanting to start a podcast now. I'm also sharing a little announcement about a big change coming to 10 Things To Tell You! Ep 203: Meditation for Beginners
2024/01/26
Published Jan 16, 2024 Mindfulness meditation has changed my life. It has helped with my anxiety, productivity, and inner peace.  But even though I'd been hearing about the benefits of this practice (and even read several books on it!), it took me years to get started. Mostly this is because I thought meditating had to be formal. I thought it required a certain amount of time or a certain personality type. But this isn't true! Anyone can meditate. You can start as small as one minute at a time.  In this episode, mindfulness educator Laurie Cousins walks us through 10 tips for the meditation-curious, those beginning a meditation journey, and anyone in need of a refresher for what a meditation practice can bring.  Laurie Cousins is our guest today and she leads the meditation group that finally got me to make this practice a regular part of my life. Laurie has trained at UCLA and USD and specializes in trauma and resiliency. She is also passionate about mindful parenting, and facilities several groups with this focus.  LEARN MORE ABOUT LAURIE COUSINS HERE FOLLOW LAURIE COUSINS ON IG   FULL SHOW NOTES HERE JOIN JOURNALING for GROWNUPS HERE   SUBSCRIBE to 10 Things To Tell You so you never miss an episode! Ep 202: The Secret To Good Goal Setting
2024/01/26
Published Jan 09, 2024 Do you find goals motivational or defeating? Does all the hubbub around the first of the year feel fresh or frustrating?  In this conversation with professional goal coach Abbie Schiller, we unpack all the reasons that setting goals makes us groan, and why it doesn't have to be that way. Instead we can look at goals as a framework that moves us forward to create better lives. Abbie and I also discuss what happens when you don’t meet your goals, how to identify the obstacles that get in our way, and how to get unstuck when your “new year new self” aspirations meet the reality of carpool and errands. 2024/01/02
2023 was an unexpected roller coaster for me, both personally and professionally.  I'm sharing 10 things I've learned in the last twelve months, from losing money in my business to a mistake I made in my parenting.  This episode is one of my favorites that I put together each year because it forces me to take a clear look at what's working and what's not in my life. Ep 199: Best Books of the Year 2023
2023/12/19
It's one of my favorite conversations of the year!  I love books. I love lists. I love the end of the year. So naturally I LOVE the annual Best Books of the Year conversation with my real life book club friends Yasmin Dunn and Stephanie Newman-Smith.  We're back together for our SIXTH annual Best Books of the Year conversation. This one felt a little different from year's past because in 2023 we chose to do a mid-year episode called Best Books of the Year (So Far). In Episode 179 from back in June, we talked about many of the big, buzzy books that released in the first half of the year, which let us share other favorites in this year-end conversation.  LISTEN TO US DISCUSS THE BOOKS WE DIDN'T LIKE IN 2023 ON PATREON I hope you enjoy this monster episode!  Follow @yasminheartsbooks on IG Follow @stephanie_hypen on IG   FULL SHOW NOTES ARE HERE   SPONSORS: Lume // Go to LumeDeodorant.com and use code YOU for 40% off your starter pack BetterHelp // Go to BetterHelp.com/YOU for 10% off your first month   JOIN THE SECRET STUFF BOOK CLUB HERE   Laura’s Best Books of the Year: Shark Heart by Emily Habeck  We All Want Impossible Things by Catherine Newman  Spare by Prince Harry  The Perfectionist’s Guide to Losing Control by Katherine Morgan Schafler  Search by Michelle Huneven  Happiness Falls by Angie Kim  How To Stay Married: The Most Insane Love Story Ever Told by Harrison Scott Key Hey Hun: Sales, Sisterhood, Supremacy, and Other Lies Behind Multi-Level Marketing by Emily Lynn Paulson  How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix    Yasmin’s Best Books of the Year: You Could Make This Place Beautiful by Maggie Smith  Holly by Stephen King  The Center by Ayesha Manazir Siddiqi  Hot Springs Drive by Lindsay Hunter    Stephanie’s Best Books of the Year: Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano (mutual best pick)  The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride  Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett  The Humans by Matt Haig    Also Mentioned: Smartest Person in the Room series with Yasmin Little Women by Louisa May Alcott  Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano  Friends, Lovers and the Big, Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry  The Color of Water by James McBride  Deacon King Kong by James McBride  Friday Black by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah  Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King  Misery by Stephen King  It by Stephen King  11.22.63 by Stephen King   Thursday Murder Club Series by Richard Osman  American Gods by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett  Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro  The Best Minds by Jonathan Rosen    SUBSCRIBE to 10 Things To Tell You so you never miss an episode!
