Description

Welcome to RESONANCE. I'm your host, Michael Trainer. For 30 years, I've traveled the world learning from the best minds in neuroscience, healing, and human potential—from traditional wisdom keepers to Nobel laureates, from elite performers to researchers at the cutting edge of brain science. What I've discovered: we've been optimizing the wrong thing. Peak performance isn't about doing more—it's about connecting deeper. RESONANCE explores the science and soul of transformative connection. Why some conversations change us while others leave us empty. Why certain relationships heal us while others drain us. What I call "the More"—that unmistakable quality when two minds truly meet. This show brings you the insights of the world's leading thinkers on connection, neuroscience, and what it means to be fully human in the 21st century.

Full Moon, Full Heart: Rituals of Renewal and the Power of Living as an Offering
2025/12/05
Tonight in Uluwatu, under the brightest supermoon we’ll see for the next 17 years, I dropped into a powerful download about the future of Resonance — and about the future of human connection itself. In this episode, I share: ✨ Why full moons act as natural rites of passage 🌊 How the ocean and awe reset our nervous system 🔥 The breakthrough vision for the 2026 Resonance Summit 🤝 Why living as an offering changes your destiny 🌀 What the transition from the Year of the Snake to the Fire Horse symbolizes 📱 The lost art of energetic hygiene in a distracted age 🌙 How the Moon, Sri Lankan Poya days, and ancient rhythm can guide modern living This is an invitation to step into 2026 with ceremony, clarity, and connection — and to reclaim the practices that bring us back to center. Michael Trainer has spent 30 years learning from Nobel laureates, neuroscientists, and wisdom keepers worldwide. He's the author of RESONANCE: The Art and Science of Human Connection (March 31, 2026), co-creator of Global Citizen and the Global Citizen Festival, and host of the RESONANCE podcast. Energy Leaks, Boundaries, and the Art of Letting Go
2025/12/03
Today on Resonance, I’m coming to you from Uluwatu with a message about the power of editing — not in the sense of doing more, but in the courageous act of removing what no longer serves. Culturally, we’re taught that happiness comes from accumulation: more doing, more having, more striving. But in relationships, and in our own inner world, the truth is often the opposite. Fulfillment lives in subtraction. I share a recent real-world experience with someone who showed all the signs of connection on the surface, but ultimately revealed a deeper pattern of gaslighting, blame, and energetic misalignment. It forced me to confront something I’ve carried since childhood: the impulse to abandon myself for harmony, to take responsibility for emotions that aren’t mine, and to stay connected to people who haven’t earned the privilege of my presence. In this episode, I dive into why we repeat lessons until we claim the boundary we’ve been avoiding, how unresolved inner voices manifest in the people we attract, and why editing your relational field is essential for stepping into the next chapter of your life. Most importantly, I share how facing discomfort without numbing it is part of becoming the integrated man I choose to be — one aligned with resonance, partnership, family, and true integrity. If it’s not a full yes, it’s a no. Boundaries are love. Editing is liberation. And every person we release creates the space for the people who are truly meant to walk with us. The Power of Keeping Your Word: Commitment as a Path to Integrity
2025/12/01
In today’s episode of Resonance, Michael Trainer broadcasts from Uluwatu, Bali to unpack one of the most overlooked superpowers in modern life: commitment. At a time when flakiness has become normalized and integrity is increasingly rare, Michael explores why honoring your commitments is the cornerstone of both self-trust and relational depth. From navigating a last-minute Wi-Fi crisis to honoring a 30-day daily publishing challenge, he shares a firsthand story of choosing integrity over convenience—and the identity shift that choice reinforces. Michael zooms out to look at how traditional cultures, tribal structures, and Dunbar’s number remind us that we are fundamentally interdependent. In an era hyper-focused on the individual, he makes the case for reclaiming a “we-centered” mindset, where honoring your word becomes an offering to the collective. You’ll hear how commitment builds internal power, why integrity creates momentum for your dreams, and how following through on his first book opened the portal to his second. This is a call to revisit your promises—to yourself and others—and remember that your words are seeds. When tended, they grow gardens. When neglected, they leave deserts. A grounded, potent reminder: keep watering what you’ve planted. Your future is listening. Michael Trainer has spent 30 years learning from Nobel laureates, neuroscientists, and wisdom keepers worldwide. Who You Are Is What You Attract
2025/11/30
In today’s episode of Resonance, Michael delivers a powerful reminder: who you are being shapes every relationship, opportunity, and experience in your life. We live in a culture obsessed with doing and having—more success, more status, more external markers of worth. But none of it matters if our state of being isn’t aligned with the life we’re trying to create. Michael shares how his own initiatory process has required shedding old patterns, confronting shadows, and embodying a deeper level of grounded, conscious presence—one capable of holding the vision he has for his next chapter, his work, and future partnership. You’ll learn why the world reflects your internal state, how to identify when your external results are mismatched with who you want to become, and what it looks like to act “as if” you are already the version of yourself capable of receiving what you desire. This is an invitation to step into the person your future is calling forward—today. Michael Trainer has spent 30 years learning from Nobel laureates, neuroscientists, and wisdom keepers worldwide. The Call to Home: Initiation, Insight, and the Next Chapter
2025/11/28
In this liminal moment between Ubud and Uluwatu, Michael Trainer reflects on a profound series of downloads: a Thanksgiving future-self meditation, a deep Vedic astrology reading, a life chapter of karmic stripping-away, and the sudden, crystalline vision of his next book about initiation. Speaking from the jungle, on the eve of his movement to the cliffs and horizon line, Michael explores: Initiation as a life path — the lived rites of passage, dissolutions, and sacred encounters that have shaped him The emergence of Book Two — a non-traditional memoir weaving the magic, the teachings, and the soul-level story of becoming Karmic fires and pruning — leaving homes, releasing illusions, and discovering the true gardens where his seed is meant to grow Astro-cartography and destiny — how place, soil, and timing shape flourishing The call to root — recognizing that partnership, family, and deeper embodiment require a home base Men’s work and purpose — the rising need for rites of passage, belonging, and grounded masculine presence The spirit of Bali — gratitude for the ceremonies, ancestors, and guardians of this land during a powerful 10-day window This episode is a transmission from the threshold—a moment of honoring the insight, metabolizing the lessons, and preparing for the next life chapter. It’s a message about becoming the vessel that can hold the vision you are meant to birth. If you’re standing at a crossroads, shedding old skins, or seeking the garden where you are meant to flourish, this one will resonate. The Liminal Space: A Thanksgiving Meditation on Gratitude, Listening, and Inner Signal
2025/11/27
In this Thanksgiving reflection, Michael invites you into the liminal space—the quiet between the notes where meaning, magic, and clarity live. Drawing on a powerful future-self meditation and a week-long vision fast on California’s Lost Coast, he shares how deep listening changes the way we perceive the world—and ourselves. From native traditions of fasting for vision to the way nature sharpens our senses when we strip away noise, Michael explores how true gratitude arises when we become receptive rather than directive. You’ll hear: Why gratitude is more than a practice—it’s a signal-clearing How the “space between the notes” (Debussy/Miles Davis) reveals the essence of life What a future-self meditation can teach us about legacy How nature attunes the nervous system to clarity The magic that arrives when we enter the world with reverence and listening Why real wealth is time, health, sunlight, breath, and presence From Ubud’s morning rain to bathing in the Lost Coast waterfalls, Michael recounts the moments where the world speaks—if we are quiet enough to listen. On this day of thanks, this episode is an invitation to: Put your feet on the earth Let your breath slow Listen for what your life is asking of you And remember that gratitude is the root of a life well-lived Sending you presence, warmth, and deep gratitude. Happy Thanksgiving. Michael Trainer has spent 30 years learning from Nobel laureates, neuroscientists, and wisdom keepers worldwide. The Double Opt-In: The Most Important Rule of High-Level Introductions
2025/11/26
High-value relationships are built on trust — and few things erode trust faster than sloppy introductions. In this short tactical episode, Michael shares why the double opt-in is the gold standard for making introductions at the highest levels. He walks through a striking real-world example of a podcast guest who asked for introductions to some of his most sacred relationships — including global spiritual leaders — without providing context, value, or rapport. You’ll learn: What a double opt-in introduction actually is Why it protects all relationships involved How poor introductions silently drain social capital The right way to respond when someone asks you for a connection A simple script you can use to make value-forward, pressure-free introductions How to avoid the “ghosting loop” that happens when you introduce people without consent This is a masterclass in relational intelligence — and once you learn it, you’ll never introduce people the old way again. Go to the Left: The Hidden Path to Life-Changing Relationships
2025/11/25
What if the best opportunities in your life were sitting just a few feet to the left of where everyone else is looking? In today’s episode, Michael shares a counterintuitive but wildly effective relationship strategy inspired by his 40-day drive through 11 national parks during the pandemic. While exploring Yosemite, he realized that almost everyone flocks to the valley—while the equally majestic Tuolumne Meadows sits nearly empty. That insight became a guiding principle: When it comes to connection, go where no one else is.The less crowded place is the most powerful place.** In this episode, you’ll learn: Why approaching speakers after a talk is the worst time to connect How to meet people in moments where their guard is down and their humanity is up How to leverage allies, friends, and gatekeepers instead of chasing the spotlight Why serendipity is a strategy, not an accident How to create meaningful, memorable gestures that cut through the noise This is your blueprint for becoming the pleasant surprise in someone’s life— the unexpected presence that opens doors, sparks relationships, and creates the kind of resonance that changes everything. The Door-Opener Method: Get Replies From Anyone You Admire
2025/11/24
In today’s episode, Michael reveals the exact strategy he uses to connect with high-performing, hard-to-reach humans: always make your ask an offer. This simple shift transforms your outreach from transactional to magnetic—and dramatically increases your likelihood of receiving a meaningful response. You’ll learn: Why most asks fail (and how to avoid the “pick your brain” trap) The neuroscience of why personalized offers create instant rapport How to research someone’s deepest values—and speak directly to them The Hot Ones principle: surprise people with depth Why offering unique experiences is more powerful than credentials How Michael built relationships with Moby, Flea, No Doubt, Woody Harrelson, and more The “Wolf Connection” example you can model in your own outreach Why making it easy to say no actually increases your chance of getting a yes How to follow up in a way that builds connection rather than pressure How Michael is using this method to book 50–100 podcast appearances for his book RESONANCE How to leave “a flower at the door” instead of an energetic tangle This is one of the most practical and transformative relationship tools in the Resonance Method. Use it well. Michael Trainer has spent 30 years learning from Nobel laureates, neuroscientists, and wisdom keepers worldwide. Rite of Passage: The Archetype Shift That Changes Everything
2025/11/23
In a world filled with distractions and societal pressures, finding and stepping into your true identity can feel like a monumental task. In this enlightening podcast episode, Michael Trainer shares profound insights on the importance of individuation, using personal anecdotes and timeless wisdom to guide listeners on their journey to self-discovery.   **Understanding Individuation**   Michael Trainer opens the discussion by emphasizing the significance of drawing a line in the sand and embracing the identity that resonates with us. He recalls advice from his leadership coach, Peter Roche, who reminded him that we are the lead actors in our own movies. This metaphor encourages listeners to take control of their narratives, embodying the characters they aspire to be, such as the king, the warrior, or the lover. These archetypes have been part of human storytelling for centuries, and recognizing them can help us align with our deepest desires.   **The Traditional Rite of Passage**   Trainer reflects on the historical processes of individuation, where young men and women were guided through challenging rites of passage by elders. These experiences often required courage and a confrontation with fears, leading to a new identity and a profound sense of belonging. Unfortunately, in today's convenience-oriented culture, these traditional connections and rites of passage are often missing, leaving many feeling stuck in their childhood narratives and unprepared for adulthood.   **The Importance of Letting Go**   To fully embrace our potential, Trainer stresses the need to let go of old stories that no longer serve us. He shares a personal experience of slipping and injuring his wrist, using this incident as a metaphor for the importance of paying attention to life’s signals. He highlights how injuries can teach us valuable lessons about health, patience, and resilience. In moments of struggle, we are reminded to reflect on our paths and take responsibility for our choices.   **Finding Your Purpose**   The conversation then shifts to the significance of stepping into our purpose, or Dharma. Trainer explains that when we neglect our true calling, life can feel chaotic and unsteady. However, when we stand firm in our convictions and embrace our roles within our communities, we can navigate challenges with greater ease. This self-awareness leads to empowerment, allowing us to transition from one life stage to another, whether it’s from maiden to mother or prince to king.   **Community and Support**   Michael shares his own journey of individuation, which included participating in men's work with his father and engaging in transformative programs like the Mankind Project. He emphasizes the importance of community in this process, as being witnessed by others can facilitate growth and healing. However, he also acknowledges that not everyone has access to such experiences. Therefore, he encourages listeners to seek out mentors and peers who can inspire and challenge them to rise to their full potential.   **Commitment to Growth**   As Trainer reflects on his own life, he recognizes the need to surround himself with individuals who push him forward, not just those who provide comfort. He shares his commitment to returning to a supportive community in Austin, Texas, where he plans to embark on a new chapter in 2026, focusing on personal growth and the birthing of a new book. This commitment, while daunting, represents a significant step in his journey toward individuation.   What happens when you finally decide to stop playing small? In this intimate solo episode, Michael dives into the ancient and deeply human process of individuation—the moment you step out of the outdated version of yourself and into the role you were always meant to inhabit. Drawing on wisdom from his leadership mentor, Peter Roche, and archetypes from myth and psychology, Michael explores why so many of us are living out childhood stories long after they’ve expired… and what it takes to cross the threshold into your next chapter. He shares a recent personal moment—a literal fall—that became a metaphor for the ways life tries to get our attention when we’re not stepping fully into our gifts, purpose, and power. You’ll hear: Why you’re the lead actor in your own story The archetypes (King, Warrior, Magician, Lover) that shape your identity How ancient rites of passage forged adults who could protect community What happens when we avoid the identity we’re called to live How injury, setback, or friction can be a spiritual signal Why strong peers and “iron sharpens iron” relationships matter The difference between karma and dharma Why stepping into your bigness is not arrogance but responsibility Michael’s commitment to a new chapter—and an invitation to begin your own If you’ve been feeling the pull toward a bigger life, deeper purpose, truer relationships, or a more courageous version of yourself… this episode is your line in the sand. **Conclusion: Key Takeaways**   Michael Trainer’s podcast serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of stepping into our true identities and the role of community in our journeys. Key takeaways include: - Embrace the idea that you are the lead actor in your life and have the power to shape your narrative. - Recognize the value of traditional rites of passage and seek out ways to create your own. - Let go of stories that no longer serve you and focus on your true purpose. - Surround yourself with a community that inspires growth and pushes you to reach your potential. - Commit to continuous personal development and be willing to embrace new chapters in your life. Your Vision Is a Magnet: How Big Dreams Attract Big Relationships
2025/11/22
When you expand your vision, you expand your relationships. In this episode, Michael explores the idea that “your relationships will move commensurate with your vision… and the bigger your vision, the bigger your relationships.” Whether you’re called to a quiet, simple life or you feel a pull toward building something much larger than yourself, your “why” shapes who shows up in your world. Michael shares: How compelling vision and story helped him co-create Global Citizen and attract allies like Bill Fold (Coachella), the Foo Fighters, the Black Keys, and FedEx The neuroscience and ancient roots of why we’re all still wired for campfire stories How events, podcasts, and books become “relationship engines” instead of just projects The Dalai Lama event that drew in Forrest Whitaker, Roland, and a whole constellation of unexpected collaborators Why he doesn’t identify as an “event producer,” but continues to create events for causes bigger than himself How Resonance is becoming a platform for human connection in an age of loneliness A simple but powerful idea: always have an invitation in your back pocket He closes with a beautiful story of a woman who met her husband at one of his gatherings—reminding us that when you bring people together around a meaningful vision, lives can literally change. You’ll walk away with: A new way to think about vision—not just as a personal goal, but as a social magnet Practical ideas for turning your vision into platforms (podcasts, events, salons, books) that attract aligned people Reflection questions to clarify your own “why” and the relationships you want to build Michael Trainer has spent 30 years learning from Nobel laureates, neuroscientists, and wisdom keepers worldwide. The Tragedy of a Life Never Begun
2025/11/21
“The tragedy of life is not that it ends so soon, but that we wait so long to begin it.” – W.M. Lewis In this solo episode, Michael reflects on the ways we delay the life that’s calling us. He shares how he waited years to launch this very podcast and over a decade to write his book, Resonance, and what finally helped him get out of his own way. Drawing on Steven Pressfield’s The War of Art and Elizabeth Gilbert’s Big Magic, he explores the idea of the “muse” – that creative force that wants to move through us – and the counterforce Pressfield calls “resistance.” He weaves in stories from elders facing the end of their lives, including a man who had never once been met at the airport, and contrasts that with memories of his father, a man who always showed up. In this conversation, you’ll hear about: Why we wait so long to begin the life that’s meant for us The muse, resistance, and how to finally start dancing with your creative calling The difference between résumé goals and eulogy goals What elders’ regrets can teach us about how to live now Why relationships — the people who would pick you up at 2 a.m. — matter more than anything This is an invitation to stop postponing your real life, to sing your unique song, and to surround yourself with the people who help you play it beautifully. Trust Your Gut: The Hidden Compass in Every Relationship
2025/11/20
In this deeply resonant episode, Michael explores the second brain — the gut — and how its subtle signals can reveal more about our relationships than logic ever could. He shares a recent encounter in Bali that reminded him of one powerful truth: if it’s not a full “yes,” it’s often a “no.” You’ll hear how the body tells us which connections are nourishing, which are neutral, and which quietly erode our energy. Michael explains why we ignore red flags, how to recognize the difference between signal and noise, and why people who leave us energized are invitations worth accepting. This episode is a reminder to trust the intelligence within you — to follow the feeling, honor the subtle cues, and invest in the relationships that invest back. Perfect for anyone seeking deeper clarity in dating, friendship, or life direction. Michael Trainer has spent 30 years learning from Nobel laureates, neuroscientists, and wisdom keepers worldwide. The Resonant Moment: How One Unexpected Encounter Changes Everything
2025/11/19
In today’s episode, recorded live from Ubud, Bali, Michael shares a powerful, real-life moment of pure resonance — the kind of unexpected human connection that stops you in your tracks and reminds you of the magic that’s possible when you’re fully present. After a day spent walking through Bali’s ceremonial offerings and reconnecting with his own inner rhythm, Michael experiences an effortless, deeply attuned connection with a stranger — one that reawakens the truth of what resonance feels like. In this intimate story, he explores: how to recognize when someone is “playing your song” why the nervous system knows resonance before the mind does how to approach new connections with courage, curiosity, and integrity the difference between dissonant relationships and aligned ones why small acts of openness lead to entire worlds of possibility This episode is a reminder that the relationships meant for you cannot miss you — and that the magic we want is waiting on the other side of presence, self-trust, and a single courageous moment. Dissonance vs. Resonance: How to Tune Your Life and Level Up Your Game
2025/11/18
This is a rich and highly engaging monologue! Here are some great options for the title, summary, and description, focusing on the core themes of self-mastery, environment, and energetic boundaries. Dissonance vs. Resonance: Tuning Your Environment and Stepping Up Your Identity In this tactical episode of Resonance, host Michael Trainer tackles the concept of Dissonance—the frustrating static and out-of-tune feeling that emerges when your core values and integrity aren't met by your environment or relationships. Drawing on his challenging experience while recording in Ubud, Bali, Michael unpacks how the gap between his grounded, pragmatic approach and the "maybe I'll show up, maybe I won't" culture became a powerful call to action. You will learn: The Power of Environment: Why physically changing your location (or "garden") is often the most direct and pragmatic way to reset your inner tune, especially when entering a new professional or personal phase. The Radical Reckoning: How to use tools like journaling, trusted friends, or even AI to uncover the blind spots and patterns that lead you to attract and tolerate dissonance. The Identity Manifesto: Michael shares his process for defining a new self-identity, including a declaration to stop "energizing" people and behaviors that don't share your high standards for integrity and follow-through. Confronting the Warrior's Task: How to turn dissonance into resonance by deliberately taking on the uncomfortable tasks, hard conversations, and long-avoided items that are draining your life force. Childhood Wounding as Signal: Recognizing that patterns of frustration (like constantly being flaked on) often connect back to unresolved childhood experiences, and how to use this awareness to heal and show up differently. This episode is a powerful message about holding yourself and your relationships to a higher standard, recognizing static, and intentionally cultivating the energy where your most beautiful music can play. Michael Trainer has spent 30 years learning from Nobel laureates, neuroscientists, and wisdom keepers worldwide.
