Truth To Power | Kim Giovacco | Veg Jaunts & Journeys | LIVE from Louisville VegFest | 10-2-26
2026/10/01
This week on Truth to Power, we bring you highlights from the second hour of our special live broadcast from the 2026 Louisville Veg Fest, held on Saturday, September 12th at the Mellwood Art Center.
Today we bring you the second speaker, Kim Giovacco, founder of Veg Jaunts and Journeys. Kim presented on “Creating Community through Vegan Travel.” As vegans, one of our favorite parts of traveling is researching the vegan food scene before we even get there. Finding the must-visit restaurants, discovering local businesses, and seeking out experiences that align with our values can become part of the adventure itself. And there is something especially fun about exploring a new destination knowing there are incredible vegan meals and compassionate experiences waiting for us along the way. Kim has built an entire business around exactly that - making vegan travel easier, more meaningful, and a whole lot more fun.
An experienced world traveler herself, Kim founded Veg Jaunts and Journeys to create the kind of travel experiences she wished existed - adventures where vegan travelers could explore incredible destinations, enjoy amazing food, support local vegan businesses, visit places like animal sanctuaries, and experience the culture without having to constantly research their next meal. Her small-group tours have taken vegan travelers on adventures both in the U.S. and around the world, while creating something just as important along the way: community. She’ll share how a community-led initiative inspired the creation of Veg Jaunts and Journeys, how travel has helped build connections and friendships around the world, and plenty of practical tips for traveling while vegan.
Forward Radio was a proud media sponsor of Kentucky’s premier celebration of all things vegan, featuring over 19,000 sq ft of indoor space filled with over 60 vendors and additional food trucks bringing the fun outside, too! Forward Radio hosted a booth to share how you can turn all that plant-power into community radio! The day featured live music, performances, craft beer, cocktails, a plant-based marketplace, and inspiring speakers. Learn more at https://vegkentucky.org/vegfest

Access Hour | Allison Leake & Graham Slaby | Get On The Bus Campaign | 9-23-26
2026/09/26
This week on the Access Hour, your host Bob Cline is in conversation with Allison Leake & Graham Slaby, Communication Coordinator, with the Get On The Bus Campaign organized by the Louisville chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Just in time for the Week Without Driving (Oct. 1-8), we bring you a vital conversation about the people's demand for improved transit in Louisville.
Simply put, Louisville Metro Council does not prioritize public transportation. The current funding model for the Transit Authority of River City (TARC) was implemented in 1974 and has not changed since. As it is currently funded, TARC is unable to meet the public transit needs of all Louisville Metro residents.
In spring 2024, this situation became even more dire. TARC reached its breaking point, announcing a $30-million-dollar budget shortfall which forced them to make drastic service cuts. Around the same time, TARC launched the long-awaited TARC 2025 system re-design, introducing three plan options, one of which would increase service and grow ridership, currently known as the “growth” option.
In order to ensure the best outcome of the TARC 2025 system re-design—a public transit system that serves the needs of all Louisville Metro residents—Louisville Metro Council must act and properly fund the most robust option of TARC 2025. TARC is doing their job, Louisville Metro Council needs to do theirs.
The GOTB Campaign demands that the TARC Board and Louisville Metro Council work together in accordance with the 1974 resolution to put a referendum on the ballot to increase the occupational tax from 0.2% to 0.6% (from $2 to $6 per $1000 earned) to fully fund the TARC 2025 Growth option, as well as paratransit.
The NEXT CAMPAIGN MEETING is on Thursday, October 22, 2026 at 6:30pm at the Kling Center, 219 W. Ormsby Ave.
