Ep. 394: The One Thing Worth Boasting About
2026/09/27
SHOW NOTES
In Podcast Episode 394, “The One Thing Worth Boasting About,” Kim discusses what Jeremiah 9:23–24 teaches us about where we find our identity, confidence, and worth. While the world encourages us to take pride in our wisdom, power, accomplishments, and possessions, God points us toward something far greater—truly knowing Him. Through Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 11–12, we also discover that even our weaknesses can become opportunities for God’s strength to be displayed. Join Kim as she explores why knowing God is ultimately the one thing worth boasting about.
Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 9:23-24.
23
This is what the Lord says:
“Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom,
or the powerful boast in their power,
or the rich boast in their riches.
24
But those who wish to boast
should boast in this alone:
that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord
who demonstrates unfailing love
and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth,
and that I delight in these things.
I, the Lord, have spoken!
WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:
This week, choose one quality God delights in—unfailing love, justice, or righteousness—and intentionally look for one opportunity each day to reflect it in the way you treat someone else.

Ep. 393: When Tears Aren't Enough
2026/09/20
SHOW NOTES
In Podcast Episode 393, “When Tears Aren’t Enough,” Kim discusses the professional mourners of Jeremiah’s day and how God used the language of lament to warn Judah of the judgment that was coming. She explores the difference between simply grieving the consequences of sin and experiencing the kind of godly sorrow that leads to genuine repentance and a changed heart.
Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 9:17-22.
17
This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says:
“Consider all this, and call for the mourners.
Send for the women who mourn at funerals.
18
Quick! Begin your weeping!
Let the tears flow from your eyes.
19
Hear the people of Jerusalem crying in despair,
‘We are ruined! We are completely humiliated!
We must leave our land,
because our homes have been torn down.’”
20
Listen, you women, to the words of the Lord;
open your ears to what he has to say.
Teach your daughters to wail;
teach one another how to lament.
21
For death has crept in through our windows
and has entered our mansions.
It has killed off the flower of our youth:
Children no longer play in the streets,
and young men no longer gather in the squares.
22
This is what the Lord says:
“Bodies will be scattered across the fields like clumps of manure,
like bundles of grain after the harvest.
No one will be left to bury them.”
WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:
This week, identify one thing you've grown spiritually comfortable with that God may be asking you to take seriously again, and spend intentional time praying, “Lord, help my heart care about what matters to You.”

2026/09/13
SHOW NOTES
In Podcast Episode 392, “When Later Becomes Too Late,” Kim discusses the danger of delaying our response to God’s prompting. Using Jeremiah 8:20, she explores how missed opportunities for repentance and obedience can lead to regret and challenges listeners to respond to God today rather than assuming there will always be a tomorrow.
Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 8:18-22, with 20 as the focal verse:
20 “The harvest is finished,
and the summer is gone,” the people cry,
“yet we are not saved!”
WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:
Identify one thing you know God has been prompting you to do but you've been putting off, and take one concrete step of obedience today.

Ep. 391: Don't Waste the Fire
2026/09/06
SHOW NOTES
In Podcast Episode 391, “Don’t Waste the Fire,” Kim discusses the powerful imagery of the refiner’s fire in Jeremiah 6:27–30. She explores how difficult seasons can reveal what is hidden within us and how God can use those experiences to refine our hearts. The challenge is not simply to survive the fire, but to allow God to use it to transform us.
Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 6:27-30.
27
“Jeremiah, I have made you a tester of metals,
that you may determine the quality of my people.
28
They are the worst kind of rebel,
full of slander.
They are as hard as bronze and iron,
and they lead others into corruption.
29
The bellows fiercely fan the flames
to burn out the corruption.
But it does not purify them,
for the wickedness remains.
30
I will label them ‘Rejected Silver,’
for I, the Lord, am discarding them.”
WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:
This week, identify one piece of spiritual “dross” God may be revealing in your life.
Additional Resources and Scriptures:
6 So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. 7 These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. (1 Peter 1:6-7)
2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. (James 1:2-4)

Ep. 390: When the Alarm Sounds
2026/08/30
SHOW NOTES
In Podcast Episode 390, “When the Alarm Sounds,” Kim discusses the responses we can have to physical alarms and how we may have similar responses to spiritual alarms. In today’s text, we see the prophet Jeremiah distraught at the consequences he hears coming and how this will impact the people he has been called to warn. Yet, the people seem unconcerned about the danger and keep going on with their lives as if they do not have a care in the world. Does this sound familiar to anyone today?
Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 4:19-22, with 19-21 as the focal verses:
19
My heart, my heart—I writhe in pain!
My heart pounds within me! I cannot be still.
For I have heard the blast of enemy trumpets
and the roar of their battle cries.
20
Waves of destruction roll over the land,
until it lies in complete desolation.
Suddenly my tents are destroyed;
in a moment my shelters are crushed.
21
How long must I see the battle flags
and hear the trumpets of war?
WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:
For the next seven days, pay attention to the “warning lights” God may be using to get your attention.

Ep. 389: Plow Up the Hard Ground of Your Hearts!
2026/08/23
SHOW NOTES
In Podcast Episode 389, “Plow Up the Hard Ground of Your Hearts!” Kim discusses the word picture in Jeremiah 4 of the hard soil and the thorns. Whether our heart has a fully hard soil area or a hard area of ground, the Lord calls on us to “Plow up the hard ground of [our] hearts!” Even if our heart soil isn’t stone hard, that does not mean that we do not have some thorns that are choking out some of our growth and spiritual fruit.
Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 4:1-4, with 3-4 as the focal verses:
3 This is what the Lord says to the people of Judah and Jerusalem:
“Plow up the hard ground of your hearts!
Do not waste your good seed among thorns.
4 O people of Judah and Jerusalem,
surrender your pride and power.
Change your hearts before the Lord,
or my anger will burn like an unquenchable fire
because of all your sins.
WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:
Bravely ask the Lord: “What do You want to change in me through this?”
PRAYER:
Lord, break up the hard ground of my heart. Pull out anything that is choking the work You want to do in me. Make my heart soft toward Your voice and ready to receive Your Word. Show me what needs to change, and give me the courage to obey You. Amen.

Ep. 388: Come Home to Me Again
2026/08/16
SHOW NOTES
In Podcast Episode 388, “Come Home to Me Again,” Kim discusses our merciful God and His call to His prodigals to "come home." In today's scripture, the Lord, through Jeremiah, reaches out to the Northern Kingdom. Just as He gave them chance after chance, He also speaks to His modern-day prodigals, encouraging them to "come home."
Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 3:1-20, with 12-13 as the focal verses:
12 Therefore, go and give this message to Israel. This is what the Lord says:
“O Israel, my faithless people,
come home to me again,
for I am merciful.
I will not be angry with you forever.
13 Only acknowledge your guilt.
Admit that you rebelled against the Lord your God
and committed adultery against him
by worshiping idols under every green tree.
Confess that you refused to listen to my voice.
I, the Lord, have spoken!

Ep. 387: When Will You Stop Running?
2026/08/09
SHOW NOTES
In Podcast Episode 387, “When Will You Stop Running?” Kim discusses the vivid imagery in Jeremiah 2 that describes the Israelites' unfaithfulness. The Lord asked them: “When will you stop running? When will you stop panting after other gods?” Good questions for us to answer today, don’t you think?
Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 2:23-37, with 23-25 as the focal verses:
23 “You say, ‘That’s not true!
I haven’t worshiped the images of Baal!’
But how can you say that?
Go and look in any valley in the land!
Face the awful sins you have done.
You are like a restless female camel
desperately searching for a mate.
24 You are like a wild donkey,
sniffing the wind at mating time.
Who can restrain her lust?
Those who desire her don’t need to search,
for she goes running to them!
25 When will you stop running?
When will you stop panting after other gods?
But you say, ‘Save your breath.
I’m in love with these foreign gods,
and I can’t stop loving them now!’
WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:
To which gods have you been running?

Ep. 385: Quit Wasting Your Time Looking for Cheap Substitutes
2026/07/26
SHOW NOTES
In Podcast Episode 385, “Quit Wasting Your Time Looking for Cheap Substitutes,” Kim discusses the strong word picture the Lord painted through the words of Jeremiah. God accused the people of Israel of two sins: (1) abandoning the Lord—the fountain of living water; (2) instead digging cracked cisterns that couldn’t hold water. This picture applies to Christ-followers today just as it did for the Israelites.
Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 2:1-13, with 13 as the focal verse:
13 “For my people have done two evil things:
They have abandoned me—
the fountain of living water.
And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns
that can hold no water at all!

Ep. 384: After the Call, the Confirmation
2026/07/19
SHOW NOTES
In Podcast Episode 384, “After the Call, the Confirmation,” Kim discusses the confirmation of his call the prophet Jeremiah received. God was so gracious to encourage young Jeremiah by beginning to show him what ministry would look like and letting him know that there would be challenges, but the Lord would handle them for him.
Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 1:12-19, with 18-19 as the focal verses:
18 For see, today I have made you strong
like a fortified city that cannot be captured,
like an iron pillar or a bronze wall.
You will stand against the whole land—
the kings, officials, priests, and people of Judah.
19 They will fight you, but they will fail.
For I am with you, and I will take care of you.
I, the Lord, have spoken!”
WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:

2026/07/12
SHOW NOTES
In Podcast Episode 383, “For What Has God Appointed You?” Kim discusses the call of the prophet Jeremiah and the lessons we can each learn from this touching encounter. Have you ever asked the Lord what He has appointed you to do? Are you walking each day in that calling, or have you put it aside?
Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 1:1-10, with 5 as the focal verse:
5 “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.
Before you were born I set you apart
and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”

Ep. 382: Turning Points In History
2026/07/05
SHOW NOTES
In Podcast Episode 382, “Turning Points in History,” Kim discusses how turning points in history affect us, whether they be personal turning points or those of nations. In today’s text, we see a turning point in the history of the nation of Israel: the fall of Jerusalem. God had consistently sent His prophets, especially Jeremiah, to warn the people of the consequences they would experience for their sinful lifestyles, but they refused to heed the warnings. May we learn from their bad choices, as well as our own turning points, and live lives wholly surrendered to the Lord.
Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 25:1-21 and 2 Chronicles 36:17-21, with 2 Chronicles 36:17-21 as the focal verses:
17 So the Lord brought the king of Babylon against them. The Babylonians killed Judah’s young men, even chasing after them into the Temple. They had no pity on the people, killing both young men and young women, the old and the infirm. God handed all of them over to Nebuchadnezzar. 18 The king took home to Babylon all the articles, large and small, used in the Temple of God, and the treasures from both the Lord’s Temple and from the palace of the king and his officials. 19 Then his army burned the Temple of God, tore down the walls of Jerusalem, burned all the palaces, and completely destroyed everything of value. 20 The few who survived were taken as exiles to Babylon, and they became servants to the king and his sons until the kingdom of Persia came to power.
21 So the message of the Lord spoken through Jeremiah was fulfilled. The land finally enjoyed its Sabbath rest, lying desolate until the seventy years were fulfilled, just as the prophet had said.

Ep. 381: Defining Moments vs. Moment of Defiance
2026/06/28
SHOW NOTES
In Podcast Episode 381, “Defining Moment vs. Moment of Defiance,” Kim discusses the similarities and differences between King Zedekiah of Judah and Samson. Both leaders had opportunities in the midst of great adversity to cry out to God, but only one used his voice to beg God to intervene. What became a defining moment for Samson was only one last moment of defiance for Zedekiah, and his life and legacy are found lacking.
Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Kings 25:1-7, with 7 as the focal verse:
7 They made Zedekiah watch as they slaughtered his sons. Then they gouged out Zedekiah’s eyes, bound him in bronze chains, and led him away to Babylon.
Lagniappe:
21 So the Philistines captured him and gouged out his eyes. They took him to Gaza, where he was bound with bronze chains and forced to grind grain in the prison…28 Then Samson prayed to the Lord, “Sovereign Lord, remember me again. O God, please strengthen me just one more time. With one blow let me pay back the Philistines for the loss of my two eyes.” 29 Then Samson put his hands on the two center pillars that held up the temple. Pushing against them with both hands, 30 he prayed, “Let me die with the Philistines.” And the temple crashed down on the Philistine rulers and all the people. So he killed more people when he died than he had during his entire lifetime. (Judges 16: 21, 28-30)
WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:
As you ponder the moments described in Samson’s and Zedekiah’s lives, what lessons did the Lord bring to your mind?
