As a physician, I unpack why God’s command to circumcise on the eighth day is not arbitrary: vitamin K, vital for normal blood clotting, is low at birth and rises by day eight. That same reality is why newborns receive a vitamin K injection today, and why missing it can lead to frightening spontaneous bleeding.
