Own the Life God Gave You
2026/10/05
Our Spiritual Formation Pastor, Angela Ekstrum, continues week eight of our teaching series, Life Lessons. What does it mean to own the life God has given us? Through John 21 and Peter's conversation with Jesus, we see how easy it is to look over our shoulder at someone else's story while missing what God is doing right in front of us. Growth begins when we stop living in the "if only" trap and start following Jesus in the real season, story, gifts, and limitations we've been given. 03:08 — John 21: Jesus restores Peter after his failure 04:57 — Jesus tells Peter, "Follow me" 06:41 — No owning, no growing 07:16 — The danger of looking over our shoulder 07:43 — The "if only" trap 08:57 — God meets us where we actually are 10:24 — Growth begins with intention 11:02 — The lazy river of culture 12:25 — Train yourself for godliness 14:18 — Where are you living with intention, and where are you drifting? 15:06 — A personal story of casual faith and crisis 17:18 — You cannot follow Jesus on autopilot 17:59 — Taking stock of your current season 18:50 — Philippians 3: pressing on toward Christ 20:54 — God's people don't settle 23:39 — The ache of always wanting a different season 24:13 — You may not choose your season, but you choose how you show up in it 27:39 — Ask, "Lord, where are You in this, and how can I join You?" 29:40 — Owning your gifts and calling 30:02 — Spiritual gifts are given for the common good 31:16 — Steward what God has entrusted to you 33:07 — Stop denying what God is doing in your life 34:20 — Receiving the gift is just the beginning 35:22 — Walk into your gifting by serving 36:23 — You are not a surprise to God 36:37 — Closing prayer In this message, Pastor Angela explores the following Scriptures: John 21:20-22 ESV 1 Timothy 4:7-8 ESV Philippians 3:12-12 ESV 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 ESV 1 Timothy 4:14-15 ESV Ephesians 2:10 ESV – Next Steps Looking to take a next step?
