Erin Oles (Salesforce): Why Brand, Creativity & Human Connection Matter More Than Ever
2026/10/21
What does the future of marketing look like when AI is transforming how customers discover brands, make decisions, and connect with businesses? And how can marketers embrace this shift while keeping human connection at the heart of everything they do? This week, Jim is joined by Erin Oles, President and Chief Marketing Officer of Salesforce, for a special conversation recorded at the Salesforce Podcast Studio during Advertising Week New York. Fresh off Salesforce's annual Dreamforce event and stepping into her expanded leadership role, Erin shares her perspective on one of the most exciting transformations happening in marketing today. From deploying AI agents across Salesforce's own marketing organization to rethinking the traditional marketing funnel, Erin explains why the future isn't about replacing human creativity, but empowering marketers to do more meaningful work. Erin also reflects on her unconventional journey to the CMO role, from studying hospitality and beginning her career in sales to leading some of the world's largest corporate experiences. She shares lessons on building high-performing teams, embracing failure, staying close to customers, and the leadership philosophy she's learned from Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff. Jim and Erin explore why brand values, creativity, judgment, and human connection may become even more important as AI continues to reshape the industry. A thoughtful conversation about embracing change, leading with curiosity, and remembering that great marketing has always been about people. — Meet The CMO Podcast On the Road The CMO Podcast will be on the road throughout early 2027, capturing conversations with the leaders shaping the future of marketing, leadership, and business. How Great Leaders Build Trust: Live at the Penn State Alumni Leadership Conference
2026/10/16
This week, Jim has a special bonus episode of The CMO Podcast, recorded live from one of his favorite places in the world: Penn State. Back in Happy Valley for the Penn State Alumni Leadership Conference, Jim sits down with four remarkable Penn State alumni whose careers have taken them from entrepreneurship and healthcare to the C suite and the highest levels of the U.S. Army:  Dave Becker, CEO and co founder of CampusESP; General Gary Brito, former Commanding General of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command; Cindy Miller, former CEO of Stericycle and President of UPS Europe; John Waldeisen, entrepreneur, scientist and founding CEO of Lucira Health.Their careers couldn't look more different, but this conversation centers on something every leader needs to earn: trust. Together, they explore what it takes to build trust across organizations of vastly different sizes, why authenticity and transparency matter, and how listening can be one of a leader's most powerful tools. They also get practical about delegating with trust, making difficult people decisions, giving young leaders opportunities to prove themselves, and rebuilding trust when you've gotten something wrong. Throughout it all is a lesson Jim has carried with him from Penn State, captured in a line from the alma mater: “May no act of ours bring shame to one heart that loves thy name.” How we show up matters. How we treat people matters. And whether you're leading a startup, a global company or an organization of nearly a million people, trust is built one action at a time. From Happy Valley, this is a conversation about listening first, leading with humility, and earning the trust of the people you lead. — Meet The CMO Podcast On the Road The CMO Podcast will be on the road throughout early 2027, capturing conversations with the leaders shaping the future of marketing, leadership, and business. AI Is Moving Fast. Are Marketers Ready? | Live from the TransUnion Summit with Liz Bacelar
2026/10/14
Marketers are investing heavily in artificial intelligence, and confidence in its potential is soaring. But are organizations truly ready to turn that investment into meaningful business results? Recorded live at TransUnion’s annual Marketing Summit in Chicago, Jim sits down with Liz Bacelar, a technology and innovation leader whose career has taken her from Emmy-nominated journalism and entrepreneurship to senior roles at global brands including The Estée Lauder Companies and Under Armour. Inspired by new research from TransUnion on the AI Confidence-Readiness Paradox, Jim and Liz explore the growing gap between marketers' enthusiasm for AI and their organizations' ability to put it to work. Liz shares her perspective on what's working, what's holding companies back, and why successful AI transformation depends less on the technology itself and more on people, leadership, and organizational culture. It's a timely conversation about navigating change, challenging conventional thinking, and building organizations that are ready for what's next. A special thank you to TransUnion for welcoming The CMO Podcast to Chicago and making this live conversation possible. — Meet The CMO Podcast On the Road The CMO Podcast will be on the road throughout early 2027, capturing conversations with the leaders shaping the future of marketing, leadership, and business. Healthcare Is Personal: Blue Cross of Idaho’s Reagan Greene on Trust, Growth & Experience
2026/10/07
This week, Jim welcomes a guest who gave him some very good advice. When Reagan Greene met Jim at the Kellogg Marketing Leadership Summit last May, she told him, “You need more healthcare leaders on the podcast.” So, naturally, he invited her on. Reagan is Vice President of Marketing and Experience at Blue Cross of Idaho, the state’s largest health insurer and an independent member of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. She leads marketing, communications and customer experience, along with statewide community partnerships and engagement. Reagan has spent nearly 25 years in healthcare, but her path to marketing began somewhere very different. She studied anthropology and sociology, lived in the Amazon rainforest, studied abroad in Europe and became fascinated by observing people and understanding why they make the decisions they do. It was while earning her MBA alongside P&G brand managers that she realized those same instincts could become a career in marketing. Reagan and Jim explore why curiosity remains one of her most important leadership tools, how the role of marketing is moving closer to business strategy and growth, and why trust can be a powerful strategic asset in healthcare. Reagan also shares how Blue Cross of Idaho is approaching AI without losing the human experience, why local community relationships can create a real competitive advantage, and how her lifelong passion for sports has shaped the way she thinks about brand partnerships and community impact. This is a conversation about curiosity, trust, community and finding work that brings together the things you care about most. — Meet The CMO Podcast On the Road The CMO Podcast will be on the road throughout early 2027, capturing conversations with the leaders shaping the future of marketing, leadership, and business. Beyond the Office: CBRE CMO Benji Baer on the Future of Work, Marketing & Leadership
2026/09/30
What happens when the very definition of “workplace” changes almost overnight? This week, Jim sits down with Benji Baer, Chief Marketing Officer of CBRE, one of the world’s largest commercial real estate and investment services companies. Operating in more than 100 countries, CBRE helps companies and investors buy, sell, lease, finance and manage everything from office towers and logistics centers to data centers, hotels and major urban developments. Benji joined CBRE in 2019, just months before the pandemic fundamentally reshaped how we think about offices, cities, flexibility and human connection at work. But her career has long been built around navigating complex businesses and industries rooted in trust. Before CBRE, she held senior marketing leadership roles at J.P. Morgan Chase, Legg Mason and AllianceBernstein. Tune in as Benji and Jim explore how CBRE is rethinking the workplace as a place people actively want to be, why employee experience and customer experience are deeply connected, and how the role of the modern CMO is evolving from storyteller to strategist and transformation leader. Benji also shares how she’s built and developed her marketing organization, why outside inspiration and continuous learning are essential for leaders, and the importance of “bringing people with you” through periods of change. It’s a conversation about growth, culture, ambition and why, even as technology transforms how we work, human connection matters more than ever. — Meet The CMO Podcast On the Road The CMO Podcast will be on the road throughout early 2027, capturing conversations with the leaders shaping the future of marketing, leadership, and business. Signal Over Noise: The Power of Authentic Brand Partnerships with Daymond John (FUBU) and Karen Spaeth (Starkey)
2026/09/23
What turns a celebrity endorsement into genuine advocacy? Jim is joined by Daymond John, founder and CEO of FUBU, founder of The Shark Group, and one of the original investors on ABC's Shark Tank, alongside Karen Spaeth, Chief Marketing Officer of Starkey. Karen has spent more than 16 years at Starkey, leading across events, communications, customer experience, and global marketing before becoming CMO in 2023. Today, she oversees the company's global brand strategy and is helping reposition hearing aids as advanced, AI-powered wearable technology designed to improve connection, confidence, and quality of life. Daymond's relationship with Starkey began through the company's hearing foundation and grew more personal when he recognized his own hearing loss. After becoming a Starkey user, he evolved from ambassador to outspoken advocate, proudly wearing custom red hearing aids and encouraging others to see hearing technology as empowering rather than embarrassing. Together, Jim, Daymond, and Karen explore what makes a brand partnership authentic, how marketers can change deeply rooted perceptions, and why real customer stories often resonate more powerfully than traditional advertising. They also discuss AI, innovation, company culture, and the challenge of marketing a product that millions of people need but may hesitate to admit they want. At its heart, this episode is about trust. It is a reminder that people know when they are being sold to, but they also recognize when belief is real. — Meet The CMO Podcast On the Road The CMO Podcast will be on the road throughout early 2027, capturing conversations with the leaders shaping the future of marketing, leadership, and business. Beyond Football: How Ethan Braden Is Building the Texas A&M Brand
2026/09/16
How do you take a brand that inspires extraordinary loyalty on the inside and make the rest of the world understand why it matters? That’s the challenge Ethan Braden took on when he became Vice President and Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at Texas A&M University three years ago. Texas A&M was already one of the largest and most influential universities in the country, with generations of fiercely loyal Aggies. But outside Texas, the story was very different. Research showed that 40% of Americans had either never heard of Texas A&M or had no association with it, and when asked what came to mind, the most common answers included football, sports and, remarkably, “nothing.” And Ethan saw an enormous brand opportunity. Tune in as Jim talks with Ethan about the playbook he has used to help transform the reputation of Texas A&M, building on lessons from more than a decade at Eli Lilly and five years leading marketing at Purdue University. Ethan shares why marketing should be an enterprise value creator rather than a communications function, how Texas A&M turned YouTube into a strategic storytelling engine generating more than 150 million views, and why unconventional partnerships with NASCAR, IndyCar, Dude Perfect, Buc-ee’s and others are helping introduce the university to entirely new audiences. Plus, Ethan reflects on his unlikely journey from childhood gymnast to college football player to marketer, the career opportunity he didn’t get that ultimately led him to Texas A&M, and why becoming a husband and father fundamentally changed his definition of ambition and success. — Meet The CMO Podcast On the Road The CMO Podcast will be on the road throughout early 2027, capturing conversations with the leaders shaping the future of marketing, leadership, and business. Why AI Still Needs Human Wisdom with Jacqueline Corbelli (Brightline)
2026/09/09
What happens when technology moves faster than our ability to understand its impact? Our final episode captured during the Cannes Festival, Jim sits down with Jacqueline Corbelli, Founder and CEO of BrightLine, for a conversation that begins with the future of connected television and expands into a much broader discussion about AI, leadership, purpose, and human wisdom. Jacqueline is one of the earliest female founders in adtech and helped pioneer interactive and connected TV advertising more than two decades ago. Today, BrightLine works across the streaming ecosystem with leading broadcasters, platforms, and Fortune 100 brands to make television more engaging, measurable, and interactive. Her career extends far beyond advertising. Jacqueline also founded SustainChain, an AI-powered platform focused on global supply chain resilience and sustainability. She has advised both the United Nations and the Vatican, and her book, Changemaker, offers a framework for turning ambitious ideas into meaningful action. Behind Latin America's $90 Billion Marketing Success with Sean Summers (Mercado Libre)
2026/08/05
Fresh off one of the biggest sporting events in the world, Sean Summers, our guest this week, joins Jim after experiencing the FIFA World Cup from two unique perspectives: as a lifelong football fan from Argentina and as the Chief Marketing Officer of Mercado Libre, an official tournament partner.  Mercado Libre has grown from an online marketplace into Latin America's leading ecommerce and fintech ecosystem. Operating across 18 countries with nearly $29 billion in annual revenue and a market value exceeding $90 billion, the company has become one of the region's most valuable and influential businesses. Sean shares the leadership principles that have guided both his career and the company's extraordinary growth. From helping build marketing capabilities that last beyond any individual leader to embracing curiosity, calculated risk-taking, and constant reinvention, he explains why today's CMO must think less like the star of the show and more like the executive producer behind it. Whether you're building brands, leading teams, or navigating your own career, this conversation is packed with practical lessons on growth, leadership, and staying curious. — This week’s episode is brought to you in partnership with Mercado Libre and Infillion. — Meet The CMO Podcast On the Road The CMO Podcast will be on the road throughout Q4 2026, capturing conversations with the leaders shaping the future of marketing, leadership, and business. What Racing Wienermobiles Can Teach Every Marketer with Todd Kaplan (Kraft Heinz)
2026/07/29
Six Oscar Mayer Wienermobiles racing around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It may sound like a publicity stunt, but for Todd Kaplan, it was something much bigger: a reminder that great marketing should surprise people, spark conversation, and create joy. This week, Jim welcomes Todd Kaplan, Chief Marketing Officer of Kraft Heinz North America. Since joining Kraft Heinz in 2024 after nearly two decades at PepsiCo, Todd has been leading one of the industry's most ambitious brand transformations, helping modernize more than 70 iconic brands while building a culture rooted in creativity, collaboration, and consumer insight. Recorded live at Cannes Lions in the Infillion Café, Todd shares why marketing should be more like jazz than classical music, how his philosophy of "collaborativity" helps teams move at the speed of culture, and why even the biggest organizations need to leave room for improvisation. From the Oscar Mayer Wienie 500 to Heinz's award-winning creative work, Todd explains how great ideas are born, why creativity still drives growth, and why the strongest brands never lose sight of the fundamentals. Whether you're leading a global organization or building your own brand, this conversation is full of practical lessons on creativity, leadership, and finding new energy in iconic brands. — This week’s episode is brought to you by Infillion. Beyond "Priceless" // Mastercard's Next Chapter with Jill Kramer
2026/07/22
Some marketing ideas capture attention for a moment. The very best ones become part of culture. And you could say...that's priceless. Recorded live at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Jim sits down with Jill Kramer, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at Mastercard, to discuss what it's like to lead one of the world's most iconic brands. Mastercard, known globally for its “Priceless” platform and its role at the center of everyday commerce, has spent decades building trust, emotional connection, and cultural relevance across markets.  After nearly a decade as Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at Accenture, where she led the company's "Let There Be Change" brand transformation, and earlier leadership roles at BBDO and DDB, Jill stepped into one of marketing's most influential positions with the responsibility of guiding Mastercard's next chapter. In this wide-ranging conversation, Jill shares her approach to earning trust as a new leader, building creative cultures where ideas can thrive, and why her philosophy of "early, ugly, often" has helped teams create better work. She also discusses how Mastercard is evolving its brand beyond payments, leaning into experiences, partnerships, and technology, and how the company is approaching AI, creator collaborations, and innovation while staying true to the timeless principles that have made it one of the most respected brands in the world. Whether you're leading a global organization or a small team, Jill offers thoughtful lessons on curiosity, creativity, change, and why the best leaders never stop learning. — This week’s episode is brought to you by Infillion.
