Julie and Mike meet participants, organisers and members of Kev's family as the fourth annual march for men takes place in Petersfield. The event aims to raise awareness of Prostate Cancer and the PSA tests that can help to identify men who might be vulnerable to it. Prostate cancer facts Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. More than 64,000 men are diagnosed every year. Every 45 minutes one man dies from prostate cancer. More than 12,000 lives lost each year. Incredible to think that 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed in their lifetime. Despite this, the NHS has not yet agreed to provide universal PSA testing. Charities like Prostate Cancer UK and PCaSO have stepped in to help save lives. Funds from this event go to these organisations and Petersfield's Rosemary Foundation. Age Concern, amongst many other things, has a fish and chips social on Friday 2 October and a talk on bone health coming up -  a small fee for both. Sarah Walsh and Geoff Wotton visited a school in Westmoreland, Jamaica a year ago and were moved to raise money to send a pallet of donated musical instruments for the children.  A big team helped them sort the instruments and raise funds. They had helpers for other things too, supplying footballs and IT equipment. Sarah and Geoff talk to Mike Waddington about the project and why the did it; arranging transport for the pallet to go from Petersfield to Harwich and then, after a five week journey by sea to Montego Bay, a hired van delivered the guitars, keyboards and drums to the school.  Would they do it again? yes. Rugby is finally back in the Petersphere and after a delayed start to the rugby season, Petersfield finally kick off with a home tie against a gritty Chobham side. Although Petersfield have had the better of the last few results, there is a distinct freshness about the Petersfield side with debutants on show. Following the loss of much-loved geography teacher, Mr Newton, TPS is undertaking a year of fundraising for The Rosemary Foundation. After discovering he had a rare form of adrenal gland cancer, the charity supported him and his family with palliative care. Fundraising for the Rosemary Foundation began with a mountain tribute in the Alps. 87 people signed up for volunteering with the 11 causes displayed at the Volunteers Fair on Saturday, 26 September.  It was hosted and organised by Home Start Butser and Winton House for East Hants Council.  Community Development Officer Lisa says this event was one of a number where 120 organisations present their volunteering opportunities to local people. With a great footfall on the day, including East Hants Council's Chairwoman, Cllr Penny Flux, our Town Criers, Petersfield's Mayor and Deputy Mayor (who both volunteer) and lots of people looking to vounteer in the sunshine in the Winton House Garden. Rowland's Funeral Service, just off The Square, held a coffee morning on Friday 26 September to support Macmillan. There were lots of visitors and Mike Waddington went along and found out Rowlands have been in the Town since 1885 and diversified into funeral services in 1934. They are 'custodians' of the Cafe Nero building too,  Director Marsha Vincent spoke to Mike about it all and why they are the Butlers of funeral services. Liphook and Bramshott are joint winners of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Village Of The Year competition and runner up for Best Community Event, for their annual Carnival.  Deputy Parish Clerk Geraldine Sheedy and Councillor Samuel Hawkins attended the awards, organised by the Hampshire Association for Local Councils last Wednesday, they spoke to Mark Simpson about the process and the excitement on the night. Sarah Jane Eveleigh has been a full time musician and singer for 10 years and, though it's been tough, she is glad to have made the leap with her husband - a drummer - who is also a full time musician.
