Andrew Ziminski’s book about stonemasonry - Church Going - was a book of the year said the Times , the Telegraph and BBC History.  He’s speaking at St Peter's Church on Wednesday 4 March at 7:30pm, about the wonders of stonemasonary and buildings over 1,000 years old.  The Reverend Will Hughes will also take people on a tour of St Peter's to point out historic features. Rural Strides, who organise walking groups over the Western Weald with talks about the history of where they are are walking, has arranged this event.  In conversation with Mike Waddington, Milanka van der Gaau, from Rural Strides, talks about the themed walks they organise, that also point out the architectural features and natural wonders of that walk in the Weald and what the evening event will cover. Petersfield Salvation Army is 140 years old in June this year. The Salvation Army's UK leader, likened to their Archbishop of Canterbury, Commissioner Paul Main visits a brass band celebration event on Saturday 7 March at the Methodist church at 7:30pm (open to all), and will lead their regular Sunday Worship the following day.  Major Mike Harris says more about the event and also how he came to the Salvation Army. In a week that saw so many unplayable pitches and postponements, Petersfield rugby club did however welcome a new nemesis in the form of Twickenham to Penns Place. Nicole Parker is an accomplished singer and instrumentalist and on Saturday 31 January she performed two impressive sets in concert at Horndean’s Merchistoun Hall.  First, all the tracks from Carol King's classic 1971 album, Tapestry, and after the interval covers of many artists - Coldplay, Elton John, Miley Cyrus, Oasis, Teddy Swims and Bill Joel (for which she also played harmonica) It was a very full programme with a full sound from the single performer and appreciated by the 50 strong audience. Nicole,18, from Horndean, has been on Radio 2 already and is preparing for her A levels. Matt Thompson of the West Midlands Police is a joy to listen to - he is focused 100% on Albert while he's waiting for his next "big" dog. Councillor Chris Paige, Petersfield’s Town Mayor, gives Shine Radio his report for his  work of the last month. He includes his thoughts on Councillor Martin Holmes, who died recently,  and speaks about the tribute made at the Council meeting on 29 January. Sending condolences to Councillor Holmes’ family, Chris also praises him for his dedication to Petersfield and the respect he was held in. Chris speaks about his Mayor’s Awards  - a real revelation he says - to be handed out at the Public Town Meeting on Tuesday 3 March. He says they are discussing with Councils  possible transfers of assets that may come out of Local Government Reorganisation (LGR), and also the beginning of a management plan for Goodyer  Meadows. He praises the decision not to postpone the local  elections, though he says his own ambitions are five to ten years away! He speaks of his own family life and his full time job working in IT in the NHS and enjoyed attending the Panto with his daughter He also dangles a trailer for his final meeting , “May the 4th be with you” being his clue.
