There is a theory that man is born with half a per mille too little, that alcohol in the blood opens the mind to the outside world, problems seem smaller, and creativity increases. We know it well: after the first glass of wine, the conversation lifts, the possibilities open up. Martin (Mads Mikkelsen) is a high-school teacher who feels old and tired. His students and their parents want him terminated to increase their average. Encouraged by the per mille theory, Martin and his three colleagues throw themselves into an experiment to maintain a constant alcohol impact in everyday life. If Churchill won World War II in a dense fog of spirits, what could the strong drops do for them and their students? The result is positive in the beginning. Martin's class is different now, and the project is being promoted to a real academic study with the collection of results. Slowly but surely, the alcohol makes the four friends and their surroundings loosen up. The results are rising, and they really begin to feel life. As the objects go inboard, the experiment progresses for some and goes off track for others. It becomes clearer and clearer that alcohol can generate great results in world history, but that all daring can also have consequences. The film is described as a fun, touching, and thought-provoking drama about friendship, freedom, and alcohol. Another Round (Danish: Druk, lit. 'Binge drinking') is a 2020 black comedy-drama film directed by Thomas Vinterberg, co-written with Tobias Lindholm. Starring Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Bo Larsen, Magnus Millang, and Lars Ranthe, the film follows four high school teachers who experiment with maintaining a constant level of alcohol in their blood to boost creativity and confidence. In Berlin, 1942, Hilde finds her place within an anti-Nazi resistance group as gradually as she falls in love with one of its members, Hans Coppi. With their lives being in constant danger, the two spend an unforgettable summer until they get caught by the Gestapo, and Hilde Coppi is imprisoned, eight months pregnant. From Hilde, with Love (German: In Liebe, Eure Hilde) is a 2024 German biographical film about Hilde Coppi, who, along with her husband Hans Coppi, belonged to Red Orchestra, a German resistance group to Nazism. Directed by Andreas Dresen, the film stars Liv Lisa Fries in the titular role of Hilde Coppi and Johannes Hegemann as Hans Coppi. The film was selected in the Competition at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival to be held from 15 to 25 February 2024, where it competed for the Golden Bear with its first screening on 17 February at Berlinale Palast. The film is a drama of short life, about love and death, based on true events of World War II. In early 1942 in Berlin, Hilde Coppi, a young medical assistant, became part of a rebel group that was later known as the "Red Orchestra". There she met and fell in love with Hans Coppi, who later became her husband. They enjoyed a wonderful summer together, despite the danger of their activities and the risk of being caught. Eventually captured by the Gestapo, Hilde was imprisoned while pregnant. She gave birth to a son in Barnimstrasse women's prison, and soon after, she was condemned to death. In her final months, being a mother gave her the strength to face her destiny. Socially awkward 17-year-old cinephile, Lawrence Kweller, played by Isaiah Lehtinen, is self-absorbed and movie-obsessed. Fully convinced he can earn $90,000 to achieve his dream of attending film school at NYU, he gets a part-time job at Sequels video store. Their older store manager, Alana, played by Romina D'Ugo, takes him under her wing. Meanwhile, Lawrence sabotages every high school relationship he has with his narcissistic film snobbery. Faced with the impending reality of university life, Lawrence must change his ways. I Like Movies is a 2022 Canadian comedy-drama film written and directed by Chandler Levack. Set in the early 2000s, the film stars Isaiah Lehtinen as Lawrence, a socially inept 17-year-old cinephile who gets a job at a video store, where he forms a complicated friendship with his older female manager. The film is produced by Lindsay Blair Goeldner with an original score by Murray Lightburn from the Dears. Its cast also includes Romina D'Ugo, Krista Bridges, Percy Hynes White, Dan Beirne, Andy McQueen, Rodrigo Fernandez-Stoll, and Alex Ateah. Levack has described the film as being based in part on her own teenage job in a video store, although she has stated that she chose to write the central character as male out of a desire to push back against the popular notion that women filmmakers can only tell female-oriented stories. The project was first announced as receiving funding from Telefilm Canada's Talent to Watch program for emerging filmmakers in 2019, under the working title Rejects Night. I Like Movies had its world premiere in the Discovery section of the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, 2022. A contemporary Odyssey through the dangers of the desert, the horrors of the detention centres in Libya, and the perils of the sea. Io capitano (lit. 'Me Captain' in Italian is a 2023 drama film directed by Matteo Garrone, from a screenplay written by Garrone with Massimo Gaudioso, Massimo Ceccherini, and Andrea Tagliaferri. The film, an international co-production between Italy, Belgium, and France, is based on an original idea by Garrone, inspired by actual stories of migrants' African routes to Europe. Filming took place in Senegal, Morocco, and Italy. Io capitano competed for the Golden Lion at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Silver Lion for Matteo Garrone's direction and the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Seydou Sarr's performance.
