Jesus is Coming Back: The Last Days
2024/02/18
When the authors speak of the last days - what do they mean? Is it the end of all time? Is it the end of an age or an era? In light of all of the end times conversations that are happening in the world and in the church it is important for us to understand what scripture is teaching us. Are we nearing the end times now? Or are we in the midst of fulfilling the great commission. Let’s explore this together. Scripture: Matthew 28:18-20; 1 Corinthians 10:1-11; Hebrews 9:24-26; Hebrews 1:1-4; Galatians 4:1-7; Hebrews. 9:15;
Jesus is Coming Back: Jerusalem, Jerusalem
2024/02/11
A proper understanding of Jesus's prophecy in Matthew 24 requires that we consider carefully the context in which Jesus is speaking. As Matt. 21-23 show, Jerusalem has been visited by her king, and her king has found her unfaithful to their covenant union. Scripture: Matthew 21:12-17, 28-32, 33-46, 22:1-14, Matthew 23, Micah 1:1-5, Isaiah 1:10-17, Galatians 4:21-31
Jesus is Coming Back: How Bad Are the Times?
2024/02/04
if you have read news headings in the last few years - you will clearly see that the world is in bad shape. In fact, it is likely the worst the world has ever been. At least thats what it ‘feels’ like. I hear of people longing for the good old days - but were they even good? The scripture tells us many things about the end, Jesus’ return and how we are to live today - and that is good. But what we think about the future determines how we live today. This sermon will look some stats to see how ‘bad’ the world is. We will look at some scripture to see what the Bible teaches - and we will prepare ourselves for the series and the coming of Jesus. What we discover should change the way that we live our lives forever. There is hope! Scripture: John 14:1-3, Matthew 24:33-35, Revelation 20, Acts 2:38-47, Matthew 28:18-20, Revelation 13:15-17, 1 John 2:18-25, Revelation 1:9 (ESV)
Prayer & Fasting: Apart From Him We Can Do Nothing
2024/01/28
As we celebrate the conclusion of our season of prayer and fasting today, we’re going to reflect on the nature of our very existence as human beings, and what it means for us to abide in Christ and be unable to do anything without Him. There is a glorious relationship between the truth of the victory of the Cross and the power of proclaiming the Good News of God’s love for us, made all the more clear to us as we humble ourselves before God in prayer and fasting—not in a spirit of duty or manipulation, but out of humility and anticipation. Scripture: John 15:4-5, John 9:30-33, Job 12:10, Deuteronomy 8:11-18, Ephesians 2:8-10
Prayer & Fasting: You Are Shaping Your Eternity
2024/01/21
It is common knowledge in the church today that no good work or effort can earn your salvation; it is Jesus alone who saves. So why try? What motivation does the Christian have to live like Christ when our actions do not change the stakes? That motivation can be found when we understand the kingdom that we are serving and the rewards that await us there. Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:1-5, 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, Matthew 5:12, Matthew 5:17-19, Matthew 6:5-6, Matthew 16:27, 1, Corinthians 3:10-14, Matthew 19:27-30, Matthew 25:14-25, Romans 8:5-9, Matthew 6:19-21, Peter 1:10-11
Prayer & Fasting: Humility
2024/01/07
Fasting and prayer have been regular practices for the Christian church throughout all of her existence. These two keys give us supernatural insight, power and strength to fulfill the will of God - yet many of us rarely commit more than a few minutes here and there to the secret power of prayer and fasting. The near absence of it is likely a spiritual decision of the enemy to keep us from truly seeing transformation in our own lives and also in the communities around us. Causing the bride of Christ to look very different than the world she lives in. We will begin this four part series readying our hearts to humbly submit to God and to hear from him. Scripture: James 1:22-25; Matt. 6:5-6; Matt 5:16-17; 1 peter 5:5-6; Luke 14:11; Psalm 35:13 For more information about Anchor Point Church, check out www.youranchorpoint.com. Advent: Love
2023/12/24
At its heart, the Gospel is a message of love—namely, God’s overwhelming, powerful, and all-sufficient love for us. While we were still God’s enemies, His plan of sheer goodness culminated with Jesus’s death and resurrection so we could be reconciled back to the Father! It’s a love that transforms us. So why is it so easy to feel like we’re failing at loving God and others in some way? Why is it that we find ourselves forgetting or resisting God’s love for us, and neglecting to love others with His love, rather than our own limited and finite love? Scripture References: Romans 5:1-10, Romans 1:16, Luke 8:4-14, Matthew 5:43-48, 1 Corinthians 13:13
Advent: Joy
2023/12/17
The third week of advent leads us to joy. Joy is often thought to be connected to happiness. Happiness can be a by-product of joy - but Joy is a quality. It is a quality that every believer is supposed to possess and grow in. But how does one find and grow in Joy? What do we do when joy seems distant or hard to grasp? Let’s explore true Joy together in this sermon. Scripture References: Mark 6:32-34, 2 Timothy 3:2-5, Ecc 2:1-11, Luke 8:14-15, Titus 3:3-8, John 15:11, John 17:13
Advent: The Pax Christiana
2023/12/10
Summary: As Christians living between the two advents of Christ, there are both "already" and "not-yet" dimensions to our peace. We can experience now, through Christ, peace with God, inward peace, and social peace as the body of Christ, even as we await the perfection of peace on Earth when Christ, the prince of peace, comes again. Scripture References: Romans 5:1-11, John 16:33, John 14:26-27, Isaiah 9:6-7, Ephesians 2:12-18
Advent: Hope
2023/12/03
God desires to be with mankind. It’s the hope that anchors us. Today we follow the thread throughout scripture highlighting the ways that God has chosen to make his dwelling among his creation. From Eden to Moses, to Abram and King David. God has given revelation that He longs to be with us. The storyline reaching it’s climax with Jesus and the cross, God choosing to tabernacle among us, hinting that a new temple was coming. A temple not made by mankind but built by God himself… Us. His Church. Scripture References: Exodus 25:8, Exodus 29:45-46, Exodus 33:11, Exodus 33:13, 1 Chronicles 28:2-3, Psalms 132:3-5, Isaiah 9, John 1:4, John 1:10.
