Join us for the next episode in our Stories that Matter series with Artists Blacksmiths, Mark Rogers and Ren Garsdie in conversation with Hawkwood's Programme Coordinator, Yolande Moinet. This podcast was record whilst Mark and Ren were in residency at Hawkwood, as part of the Earth, Fire, Iron series.  Mark's practice centres on interactive sculpture and co-creation. At Hawkwood, he engaged the public in conversations about sustainability and collaboration, examining how his artistic process evolves when shared with new audiences in a fresh environment. Ren focused on research at Hawkwood through foraging, seed gathering, and discussions with staff. These activities inspired new illustrations and forged artworks. Ren’s approach highlights biodiversity and community involvement, with the goal of developing inclusive workshops that connect nature with forged metalwork and encourage broader participation. This residency and exhibition aimed to highlight emerging talent in forged metal arts, emphasising creativity, sustainability, and public engagement.

Join us for the next episode in our Stories that Matter series with Curtis Ogden in conversation with Hawkwood's CEO, Alicia Carey.  Curtis Ogden is a senior associate with Interaction Institute for Social Change (IISC). With extensive experience in supporting multi-interestholder networks and complex intra-organizational change efforts, Curtis focuses on transforming food, public health, education, and economic development systems at various levels. He writes regularly about networks and social change on IISC’s blog and at NetworkWeaver.com. Curtis also serves on the advisory board of Rural Communities Rising, Flow: For Love of Water and The Transformations Community. Curtis lives on traditional Nonatuc lands in western Massachusetts in the US with his wife, teenage daughters, and a flock of laying hens.

Join us for the next episode in our Stories that Matter series with Satish Kumar in conversation with Hawkwood's CEO, Alicia Carey. This was recorded whilst Satish was at Hawkwood hosting his Radical Love course in partnership with Schumacher Wild.  Satish is a former monk and long-term peace and environment activist. He has been quietly setting the Global Agenda for change for over 50 years. He was just nine when he left his family home to join the wandering Jains and 18 when he decided he could achieve more back in the world, campaigning for land reform in India and working to turn Gandhi’s vision of a renewed India and a peaceful world into reality.

Join us for the next episode in our Stories that Matter series with regenerative design and development specialist Sarah Queblatin in conversation with Hawkwood's CEO, Alicia Carey. Sarah weaves experiences in the fields of peace building, biocultural heritage, environmental education, mental health, and humanitarian innovation for around 20 years. Her life-long practice is in restoring and re-storying narratives of place and belonging with a trauma informed approach to ecosystem regeneration and leadership. She is currently a freelance consultant on regenerative strategy, facilitation, and learning. Her current project is leading the development and delivery of a bioregional governance training for the Asia - Pacific region. Sarah founded Living Story Landscapes, harnessing cultural memory and imagination in climate and conflict vulnerable communities weaving the arts and culture with traditional ecological knowledge and permaculture. Prior to that, she started Green Releaf Initiative in the Philippines working with regenerative design in disasters and displacement. She serves as an inner council member for UNDP’s Conscious Food Systems Alliance, wisdom council for Global Ecovillage Network Oceania and Asia, founding member and advisor for Permaculture for Refugees, among other regenerative networks and movements. Sarah also serves as a juror for the LUSH Spring Prize and the Voice for Regeneration award by Unearthodox.

Join us for our the next episode in our Stories that Matter series with Marmerto Lagitan Tindongan in conversation with Hawkwood's CEO, Alicia Carey Mamerto Lagitan Tindongan is from the Ifugao tribe in the Cordillera region in northern Philippines. He is an eighth generation Mumbaki, native priest of the Baki spirituality, and he was initiated into the role by his father in 2011, though he grew up with the tradition since childhood. Baki is Ifugao’s spirituality, which is the ancestral Filipino way of relating with nature spirits, deities, and ancestors. He was also initiated in the Earth Keeper Q’uero Peruvian tradition, as Laika, in 2005. And Paqo, 4th level Andean Priest, in 2007. He spent over 20 years in the United States, and continues to travel worldwide to teach and guide students in the indigenous lifestyle and simple living of the Ifugao. He is a woodcarver since childhood, an international atlatl competitor, and tai chi and qi gong instructor. He now lives outside Banaue, Ifugao in a small town close to where he grew up. When he is not traveling and teaching, he is working to regenerate abandoned rice fields using organic practices, and documenting the traditional healing rituals of the region through the Ifugao Center for Living Culture

Join us for our next episode in our Stories that Matter series with indigenous environmental leader Konkankoh in conversation with Hawkwood's CEO, Alicia Carey.  Konkankoh weaves networks that enhance South-North Partnerships as a social entrepreneur and consultant providing advisory services in trust relations for quality and impact in community development, education and social governance. He founded Better World Cameroon and Bafut Ecovillage which became a UN-recognized reference center for sustainability, a model of environmentalism “the African Way”.

Librettist and Hawkwood Artist in Residence, Tamsin Treverton Jones and composer Louis Mander join Hawkwood CEO Alicia Carey to discuss the creative journey behind their new opera, inspired by Virginia Woolf’s The Waves. Developed at Hawkwood in July 2024 before its world premiere in Oslo, the project explores the challenges and rewards of bringing experimental literature to the operatic stage.

Nora Bateson is an award-winning filmmaker, writer and educator, as well as President of the International Bateson Institute, based in Sweden. Her work asks the question “How we can improve our perception of the complexity we live within, so we may improve our interaction with the world?”.

British woman human rights defender Jaz O’Hara joins musician and composer Soumik Datta in conversation with Hawkwood's CEO, Alicia Carey.  In this episode, Jaz shares the story of her project working with refugees, Asylum Speakers, and the inspirations that led to her recording and sharing stories of migration. Soumik explains the background to the pioneering work of his charity Soumik Datta Arts (based at Hawkwood), his project Green Room, and its origins in Hope Notes which helped asylum seekers and migrant musicians weave their stories through music. 

Actor and writer, Temi Wilkey, joins Natali Martinez a year on from her first Artist Residency at Hawkwood. In this conversation, Temi discusses her recent television and theatre projects, including her play for The Royal Court, and gives us an exclusive peek behind the scenes of the new romantic comedy she worked on during her latest residency at Hawkwood.

Grammy-nominated composer, Missy Mazzoli, was recently deemed “one of the more consistently inventive, surprising composers now working in New York” (The New York Times).
