Pure Dharma is the Only Joy
2026/09/28
In this conversation, t.k. talks about pure Dharma as the deepest source of joy, contrasting ordinary pleasures with the quieter pleasures of the heart and mind that arise through prayer, meditation, contemplative silence, and divine union. He also discusses how longing for these deeper joys can make other attractions lose their force, and how spiritual practice can move from feeling difficult to becoming a source of nourishment, stillness, and joy. He contrasts spiritual pleasures with the repeated highs of worldly attachment, recognizing that contemplative practice tends to deepen and revitalize rather than diminish. He also speaks about devotion, love, and freedom, saying that authentic devotion frees us and that pure Dharma remains our highest joy beyond family, status, or ordinary pleasures. We're so grateful for the blessing of another podcast episode! t.k.'s most recent book is The Concealing and Revealing.: The wisdom of Reality Only. - https://a.co/d/07dhMFLi New Just a Tourist album, Red Dust World - https://open.spotify.com/album/5hKcYPtWNVPt0xaDNb1ft2
Wisdom & Love
2026/07/03
Thanks and praises to the Lama for gracing us with another teaching! In this conversation, t.k. explains the Vajrayana and Dzogchen view of wisdom and love as inseparable qualities of awareness. Wisdom is described as open emptiness beyond concepts, while love is described as the clear, warm radiance that arises from that openness. Rinpoche also distinguishes ordinary mind from the nature of mind, describing mind as conceptual and identity-based, and nature of mind as luminous openness in which appearances arise. Several analogies are used to show how perception constructs subject and object, while realization reveals non-duality and the equal nature of appearances. In the final part, Rinpoche discusses pure view and the Guru -- that all appearances are expressions of Buddha nature and that devotion is recognition of wisdom rather than sentimental attachment. The Guru is presented as precious for their role on the path and ultimately identified with awareness itself.
Never Mistake a Rest Stop for the Final Destination
2026/06/30
In this episode of The Freedom Place Podcast, t.k. graces us with another interview focusing on the dynamics of Vajrayana practice and the path. Thank you for listening and enjoy! This interview discusses two approaches to the spiritual path: a “via negativa” that focuses on reducing suffering without requiring Divinity, and Vajrayana, which is based on Buddha nature and a more direct understanding of Divinity. It also stresses that rational thought is not enough for this kind of understanding, and that insight should not be turned into a fixed doctrine. A major section covers the “Four Thoughts that Turn the Mind to Dharma” — precious human birth, impermanence, karma, and suffering — as lived contemplations rather than abstract ideas. The Lama also talks about renunciation, the role of teacher and student, and the need for discipline, repetition, and serious effort in practice. The interview ends by describing core practices such as refuge, bodhicitta, Vajrasattva, and guru yoga as ongoing and never truly complete until enlightenment. Rinpoche says that if someone believes these practices are finished, that is a sign of arrogance, and that the path is a "lifetime of practice."

On Theurgy
2026/03/25
We are blessed with another episode! In this interview, t.k. explores theurgy, Divine invocation, and the sanctification of matter, emphasizing the need to recognize the Divine essence beyond thingness. Rinpoche critiques nihilism in contemporary culture and encourages engagement with profound spiritual inquiry. The interview culminates in a contemplation of the interplay of being and non-being, where the nature of reality is seen as both luminous and expansive. This culminating point suggests that every appearance, despite its seeming individuality, emerges from a singular source of awareness—redefining our understanding of appearance itself.

Nothingness
2024/11/18
In this recording, Traktung Rinpoche graciously discusses nothingness as the essence of reality. We are blessed to have yet another sublime teaching to enlighten our minds. Enjoy! One way that we approach the understanding of nothingness from a Western religious context is the conversion of St. Paul on the road to Damascus where he fell down and was blinded by brilliant light. Meister Eckhart’s description of this gives us some crucial insight into this Divine mystery:   "Paul rose from the ground and with open eyes saw nothing. I think this text has a fourfold sense. One is that when he rose up from the ground with open eyes, he saw Nothing, and the Nothing was God; for when he saw God, he calls that Nothing. The second: when he got up, he saw nothing but God. The third: in all things he saw nothing but God. The fourth: when he saw God, he saw all things as nothing."[1]   These four statements about what St. Paul meant are all correct and true simultaneously. This is what is meant and understood by Divine nothingness. [1] Meister Eckhart, The Complete Mystical Works of Meister Eckhart, trans. Maurice O’C. Walshe (New York: The Crossroad Publishing Company, 2009), 137.
Identity & Language
2024/11/11
We are so grateful to be blessed with another episode of The Freedom Place Podcast in which Traktung Rinpoche graciously discusses identity and language. Identity, while functional, is, in the light of truth, itself is a mistake. Language, while efficacious for navigating our mundane existence, is rooted in duality and, therefore, not sufficient to accurately describe reality. Please enjoy!
